I think that is the single hardest part of teaching and only exceptional teachers have the ability to compartmentalize each level of learning and block their “genius” to make room for the building of the skill. If that makes sense lol

It is so obvious you were an elementary music teacher, and not just a musician sharing what you know. The way you explain every tiny detail, like HOW to switch between chords, makes learning ukulele so easy. I’m currently teaching myself ukulele so I can hopefully start teaching it at school (if I can get a class set of ukes). I’ll definitely be referring back to these videos and using some of your techniques. Love the "mouse in the house" trick! Thanks for all of these amazing videos!

Day 3 on my absolute beginner ukelele journey, stumbled upon your channel on my feed. I have, however, watched a lot of ukelele RUclips tutorials. Your videos always bring a smile to my face. Be it the "look up", "don't leave", or "looks, I will wait" moments, you always seem to have some pleasant small details that surprise me in the videos. Those thoughtful moments make you not only a great music teacher, but a total charm to watch. There are many other great ukelele players and good teachers making videos too, but you are adorable in your own way and are valued for it. I will definitely follow and check out your other links/resources too. Thank you! :)

Thank you. Have been mixing it up with a few online tutorials but like your attention to real basics such as position and posture. I'm approaching 72 years old and have had 4 or 5 guitars through my lifetime and because of my wide hands with short stubby fingers could never get any more than a couple of chords right. I went for a harmonica instead!! It was suggested I try a Uke and so glad I did. Now I know its just practice, practice and more but I think I'm going to like this.

And yes, kid, I've five guitars, 5 ukes, about a dozen blues harps (harmonicas are for cowboys), 2 violins, about a dozen pennywhistles/tinwhistle/Irish whistles, native American flutes, etc., etc., so I know where you're coming from - and I bet you changed the high G on the uke to a low G, to simulate your guitars.

I just picked up a Ukulele and have watched several how to play tutorials. not one of them start with the basics of how to hold your instrument. and most start with C and jumt to more complicated chords. I LOVE that you start at the true beginning and take the baby steps that I need. without making me feel dumb. you cover all the things that need covered while instilling a feeling of accomplishment and the feeling that I may actually be able to learn. now if I can find someone with as much patients to teach me to read music haha. I have subscribed and liked and will be watching more and more. you are amazing!!!! AMAZING!!! thank you SO much.

for a couple of days I have been trying lessons from some very good teachers on RUclips. I happened to come across this lesson and I have to say it is the best. I have learnt more with this lovely lady than all the others. Thank you Bernadette. I look forward to your next lesson, if I can find it. Oh yes , and my finger tips get better.. Ken.

Happy New Year Bernadette!! I will be teaching the ukulele to my 3rd-5th graders later in the spring. This is a great refresher video on how to teach the ukulele! As for the ukulele club, we started late but managed to play Jingle Bells for the school Christmas program. I had to skip it but now I think they are ready for their first chord progression. Thank you!!

Ohhhhhh myy dear heavenssss...thank you soooooooo much...Ur such a wonderful person with a beautiful soul. I searched high and low to get some help with my Ukelele...I just like literally just bought one, I have been really fascinated with this cute instrument and boy is that tough, heck yesss!!! and then I stumbled upon your video and now I can play the C and Am chords and switch between them, pretty nascent I know but still a booster for me. I cant thank you enough for this video. I also noticed how to kept encouraging the viewers and telling them its okay to go slow and its perfectly fine if you just learn one chord, its still a start. I have subscribed to your channel and will take the 30 day video course too, God bless you always dear.

I can really feel that you are a music teacher because normally on RUclips they will go so fast forward but you take good time for the simple things which is the most important things to get better and it actually goes so much faster if you just do it right at the beginning, like you make sure we do… hope that makes sense. I play the violin and have really wanted to learn how to play the ukulele for a long time but because I’m already good at one instrument it can actually be quite hard to start from the beginning and accepting that it’s not perfect yet. This video really helped me because I got that real relaxing start you need to kinda feel the instrument. Love from here

Tbh I watched like 6 different ukulele teachers' videos and I only understood and learned properly from this one. Thank you so much you really helped a lot. But something I'm struggling on is stroking the strings with my finger nails, I don't have long nails so they hurt a lot, the sound doesn't sound good and I can't play it smooth and rapidly.

Good evening Bernadette. I have been playing now for about two weeks. I understand the cords and feel good about the strumming. I want to someday play like Vesko. He is so good. I was very surprised how he was able to know the notes just by hearing them. How long has he been playing...? When you both are together, you look very happy. You are a great teacher. I love playing. I've been reading comments, and I got my Ukulele for Christmas this year, and I finally am getting the chance to play it! (school has been getting in the way.) This lesson was perfect, I have ADHD, and the other lessons were hard to follow and very monotone, but you explain things just as well as you show them! I was getting discouraged with the finger placement for some of the chords, but this lesson was perfect! Thanks so much! (lol ik this video was uploaded before 2021 but I commented anyway)

That's it exactly, I didn't realize. I have ADD and can't follow the fingering on a lot of teachings. It is very helpful that she shows the chord from different angles, shows you how to get there from other chords. Plus she gives the graphics.

*I got back from my very first ukelele lesson around 2 hours ago and I absolutely love it, I'm writing this comment to keep track of my learning experience, hopefully it inspires people in the future who wanna play the uke (if I get better at it).*
_Day 1: Got introduced to the ukelele, roughly learned a few chords (C, D, F, G, Am) and a few others. - So far It's a bit confusing and complicated for me but I'm sure I might get the hang of it in the future! _*_My struggles are,_*_ my fingers slipping off of the strings, not pushing hard enough on the strings, and forgetting some of chords too._

    Dear teacher,
Yesterday I got my soprano ukulele and I have been YouTubing to start with the basics on how to hold it. I have been feeling sad as I was struggling to hold the instrument.
And now thanks to your video, my doubts, and concerns are gone! In the last 40 mins, I know how to hold my ukulele, how to strum, the basic chords and how to transition. When you say "look up" I was actually looking down.. ha ha..you caught me! Looking forward to your next videos.
    You are an amazing teacher
