    Gonna make me a jam chuck in the next couple of days. I have no other way of smoothing top and bottom of a round terrerium lid, I promised a friend. Thanks for the tip. Cheers from Mineral Bluff, Ga.

      Sounds great! I confess I have never heard of Mineral Bluff. But then as an unncorporated community with only 223 folks per the 2020 census, I guess there is not a lot of news to hear about.

    Really interesting video. Also proof that there are no excuses for the guys that don’t have fancy chucks. There’s always a way. We just need to burn a few brain cells in order to find it. Thanks man.

    I tend to get into a “jam” now and again. Learning other turners ideas to get a piece back on the lathe and turning is always helpful.
    Sometimes pieces I start sit in the widow of my shop (above my lathe) where I can keep pondering what I did wrong and how I am going to fix it. Often I watch a video that sparks the solution… like your here. Thanks bunch for sharing, it is appreciated by those of us with much to learn yet.

    This video has good timing. My wife wants me to make some lids for some of my bowls. I was trying to figure out how I would hold these. A jam chuck could be the perfect solution. Your demonstration gave me good ideas and guidance. Thanks, Mike. I really like your channel for the interesting topics and problem-solving solutions. Happy Thanksgiving to you.

    Thanks, Mike for sharing your knowledge. Really appreciate your videos! I drill a small hole through the back of my jam chucks and use compressed air to "blow" the piece free.

      @@MikePeaceWoodturning It was one of your videos that inspired me to build a vacuum chucking system in the first place! Plus, I wind up making most of the pieces you build in your videos! It's all your fault!😅 Thanks for the inspiration/information!👷‍♂️👷🤔

    Great tips Mike. Atypical mounting needs a custom chuck and you have shown many to add to my kit. When the need arises.
    I've taken to using hot glue for ones where it's an *almost* flat surface and don't trust how well I can cut the chuck. I've also used double sided sticky foam tape if I can't ensure a good mating surface. Both disassemble easy enough (het or an undermining cut) and clean up well. Stay safe. -Mike😷

    My biggest problem is that I have several of these made up for different applications, as I know you do as weel. My question is how do you store them? Piled in a cardboard box isn't really working for me, lol

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  4 года назад +1

      I have a box near my lathe for storing spindle scraps that will be a jam chuck and existing ones that might be reused, mostly for lidded boxes. I really do not use for bowls because I have a vacuum chuck.
