"War makes murderers out of otherwise decent people" man... that hits hard
The Nazis were pure evil not normal people
Never a truer statement....
That would be Plasms 144.
actually i'd say he's a bit wrong here. War brings out either the best of what is inside of the man or the worst. It unmasks you and shows who you truly are.

Jesus. This man was more quick witted and articulate at 103 than I was at 25.
Only 27 years old and never prosecuted a case before, and ends up chosen as the chief prosecutor for one of the most important trials in history.
Truly one of a kind. May he rest in peace.
A Hero!
@Blue on blue It was perfectly fair, the evidence of the crimes they committed necessitated the appropriate punishment. The fact they even had a trial is more than the 13 million holocaust victims got, I'd like for you to try to justify how those people never even had a right to a trial.
Its pretty much a slam dunk case, its likely he was chosen because he is a lawyer and served.

Truly grateful for this man. Ben Ferencz handled some of the worst, most heinous cases & it's never destroyed his outlook on humanity. The Netflix documentary about his life "Prosecuting Evil"is worth watching.
RIP
Thank you for letting us know about the documentary!
I will be looking for the documentary. I consider this to be the most important story ever told on 60 minutes.
It is indeed a worthwhile watch.
Thanks for the tip
Hey, thanks for referring to that Netflix documentary. I haven't seen that but will watch it now. Thanks again.,
I think the fact of making it to 103 makes this all the more fascinating
And hearing his story is more fascinating. My grandmother and Mother remember the Nuremberg trials quite well. My Mother just turned 100 and doing very well.
@@Aleka1943 God bless your mother. I hope your mother has many years in good health to come. Truly a remarkable generation!
Yeah especially for men because of the 100+ age group 90% are women
It would have been more epic if he were 109
I just bought a book about him a couple months ago.
It's fascinating that he was that young when he did the job. All his colleagues are dead for 60 years!
He's been the last for a very long time.
My dad took me to Dachau when I was seventeen as he had been there after the war. I believed it affected him his whole life. Thank you sir for spending your life in remembrance of those who were killed. May you RIP

An honest and courageous man who understood how governments can stupefy ordinary people to support heinous crimes.

What a fantastic man. He was so full of spirit, wisdom, and energy at 97. It's incredible he lived such a long life, doing things he never could've imagined before. Rest easy, sir. Thank you for your service, and thank you for putting those criminals to justice.
How he tried to humanize the war criminals, saying they weren't savages and just normal people who only did what they did because of the war - and the comparison to dropping the nuclear bomb. It's terrifying to know what ordinary people can do. And how progressive he was by saying "nothing new ever happened before" and we should embrace change....just wow. What a great man.

Much respect Mr. Ferencz. May your memory be a blessing.
What his eyes and heart have seen....
Most likely the truth
I watched a Netflix documentary on Mr. Ferencz a while back, and was amazed at this man's life; all he had done with it and was still doing. We tend to think of 'heroes' as big, tall, physically imposing - all the movie tropes. But this tiny human being managed to bring some of the most evil men of the 20th cent. to account, and his work with the ICC is marred only by countries - like the US - refusing to join. Here, he is absolutely right - war makes otherwise decent people into murderers, and it's far past time we found other means of solving political disputes, shared in resources, and actually respect the humanity within all. War is stupid. God bless this good man, and give him rest. He's earned it.
I loved this story. RIP, Sir.
Thank you for your service Mr. Ferencz...

What's really cool is that Ben didn't just take his place in history being a leading prosecutor, but continued his work up to the end of his life standing up for human rights. Also i was amazed that he spoke of same sex marriages and trans people so candidly as being a firm of progress, when other old people may have difficulties in dealing with these types of societal changes.
