This was a well made video! As a classic console enthusiast (I hate that I'm calling one of my childhood consoles classic, but it's what it is), these kinds of mods are awesome for games preservation, and it's been really cool watching it develop more over the past 10 years especially! Gonna check out some of your other vids too, keep up the good work! 😁👌
This guy is complaining about only getting Mario and Zelda games. He better count himself blessed. I got stuck with different years of Madden and NCAA football games. At least I had bought myself a Gameboy player.
So glad I came across your video while going down my nightly youtube rabbit hole. I love modding systems and this is going to be so easy to do. Its definitely next on my list after I mod my ebay Wii RVL-001.
I ordered two deluxe kits that come with the ethernet port. I ordered in October before their last Pre-Order cut-off. The delivery time at the time was April 15th, and it still is, no updates. They are destined for two GameCubes both being PicoBoot modded, buth with 512GB SD cards. My main has a BlueRetro I/O board from LaserBear. Not sure how useful it will be after the FlippyDrive. I got my 8bitdo Pro 2 working good for GBA games through the player but the button mapping can be confusing. You do it through a web browser. LaserBear does sell an extension for the SD Card that puts the slot right behind the power LED for $25.
@@Franklinstein18 I'm sure there will be plenty of people that get it before me. I really don't know if it is worth it but I didn't want to be left behind. For me it seems better than taking the sd card out or buying the extension from laser bear
I actually happen to have a second gamecube that I have never used so I might consider getting this, and for less the $50 for a regular one it almost feels like a steal. though I am intimidated by how to download the firmware and what not.
@@adrianoippolito1999 the firmware isn’t really that bad tbh. Just download the file and put it on the SD card, simple as that. It’s the formating that could bring trouble (but also that’s just a few clicks) either way a solid mod!
@@Franklinstein18 It probably is but I seem to have bad luck when it comes to getting these things to work. bought a tribute n64 controller to use on my PC but could not get it to work for the life of me. Though it instantly worked with my nintendo switch so at least it isn't a paperweight. but I really wanted to play my emulated n64 games on pc
I wonder what happened to my flippydrive preorder from months ago. I assume because I forgot about it, they forgot about me as well. This was 4 months ago.
Whoa, I was not expecting the custom GUIs and stuff. So hardmodding a GameCube is largely unnecessary to load custom software now? What a great time to learn about this though. I had just received a GameCube from a friend as a gift earlier this year! I wonder how it works. I'm guessing there's a hardware vulnerability in the disk drive connection?
Unfortunately yes, but once they add this Ethernet Port add-on it won’t be necessary. Luckily it’s only 4 screws to get to the SD card, but I can see it becoming annoying over time.
i'm very mad cause I suscribed to be notified when this mod were released and i wasn't notified to the preorder so i couldnt be part of the first batch
@@Gonsoi I feel ya, I personally just kept checking their CrowdSupply daily, and one day they gave out a date and time for when the orders would go live
The thought of people still working on legacy hardware like this is crazy. Although I wish I had tons of gamecube games to actually want to play to get a gamecube but sadly there are only a few gamecube games that I deem absolutely good lol
I really wanted this instead of shelling out a c-note to my game store to solder me a picoboot, my dream Flippy scenario was to power on into cubeboot but with optical disc drive enabled like good boy cuz glorious 480p on BIOS, and if not then power on into Swiss for all nefarious tasks.. I play on a VGA PC monitor so I have no 480i viewing ability, I did mention to the cubeboot author perhaps came off to him as redundant Still this is impressive very neat hardware
I don't like the idea of hard modding my consoles even though my disc drive Is failing I can still run games via action replay or play one of the games I bought when they were affordable the thought of carving up a GameCube's Internals to put In an SD card reader.. at that point I would rather buy an emulation box or a PC or run games on a modded Wii
I totally agree with you, though I would classify this as in between soft and hard mods. You aren’t soldering anything to the GameCube, and it’s as easy to remove and make stock again if you ever want to return to a regular gamecube
That's the great thing about the FlippyDrive. It just slots right into the Gamecubes optical drive port and is mounted to the shield using its existing screw holes. The entire process is completely reversible and doesn't require you to damage or alter the console parts in any way. You can easily just take it out and have a stock Gamecube again.

You’re so right lol, could’ve been far worse
Ive been following the flippy drive for a while. You convinced me to buy one
Where would you buy one im getting a GC and want to do this.
Have the link to the crowd supply in the description of the video

I have one of those Flippy drives on order myself! Excited to see how it works versus my GC loader!
That's flippin' sick
Thanks algorithm god for putting this video in my feed. I need to get one these now
Well alone for the Gameboy Player a big recommend
It's hard to get a pal disc this days
The Attachment self no Problem
Never even thought to mention this!
I definitely need to do this or buy this already done! Preloaded would be nice! GameCube is one of my favorite systems

You gotta let me know how the Ethernet port works, I’ll want to upgrade later. I bought the standard simply because I wanted the drive sooner

great video, hope your're gonna make some more
Thank you, that’s the plan, but with work it’s hard to put out videos consistently, that’s why I have the streaming schedule!
That’s actually pretty reasonably priced. If I hadn’t already installed Picoboot I’d consider it

Hmmmm, maybe you didn’t get in the first 1000 people to order? Could be on back order? Either way, sorry to hear you’re still waiting…

I know, right? Crazy what’s possible when you give people time to fiddle around with things
I ordered mine same day as release, still hasn't arrived.
sorry, same day as pre-order, not release
Do you have to disassemble the gamecube every time that you want to access the sd card?
Unfortunately yes, but once they add this Ethernet Port add-on it won’t be necessary. Luckily it’s only 4 screws to get to the SD card, but I can see it becoming annoying over time.
So how do you access the SD card if you want to add more games/homebrew software?
Physically, for now. There's an ftp client in development though.
have you tried the wifi and bluetooth features??
I have not just yet
Bluetooth isn't implemented yet. Wi-Fi disc loading works well enough, just make sure to have a strong signal.
7:21 to name a few, you just missed one xD 1080 Avalance
@@duscha55 totally forgot that one, heard it’s pretty good too

@@Franklinstein18and you live so far from you dad! 😂
@careyfranklin1 some would say not far enough lol
Is it pronounced Franklinstein or Franklinstein?
Yes
Decent.
This seems sub optimal if you have a Wii U.
This makes emulation obsolete :D
lol
Where can I download roms?
I can’t say, or else Nintendo may come after me, but you can just lookup GameCube Roms on Google, just be careful what you download 😅
Pirate bay
