struggling with dialing in... my grind setting for espresso is having to be set above 20, for 18g espresso, its a relatively light roast and fresh beans.. it tastes ok but any lower and it chokes my machine.
Oh no! That's frustrating. Can you reach out to our support team to get to the bottom of it support.baratza.com/Support/webtocaseweb?param=US&language=en_US&brand=Baratza
Got my Baratza ESP today. I pulled one test shot at setting 10 with my Gaggia Classic Pro and it was way long. I'll start it at 15 in the morning and see where that takes us.
Just ordered my ESP! I was wondering how many shims the machine in the video had installed. I love that you were able to pull a good shot @ 15/16. I'm currently using an older Virtuoso ( I had it upgraded to M2 burrs 2 years ago). I just recently got back into Espresso, and the virtuoso does not offer the fine tuning between clicks necessary to dial in a good shot. At number 7, it's a little fast - but at 6 it stalls out completely. Thanks
This is a great idea. Would love to see you come out with one that dispenses (no pun intended) completely with the coarse settings, and is for espresso only!
We are filming that video currently! Though we do have a guide for our other conical grinders on our channel. Should you require better assistance in the time being, please reach out to support@baratza.com for guidance! Thanks 😊👍☕️
@@bettercoffeequest most importantly is keeping track of (and not losing) the included shims around the burr. Otherwise it’s pretty touch and go! If you happen to have Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, you can DM us for the video instructions early.
Great grinder for the price! I just got mine, and have been loving the espressos from it. My grind size is very different though - for extremely dark roast, I’m only able to get it to work at setting 10, and this is without seasoning the burrs. I’ve seen in a review that after seasoning the grind settings fall down by half. I’m afraid that if that happens, this would not work well enough for medium-light roasts in the future.
Hello there! This is partly true, the grind range tends to shift after heavy usage (most users will not experience this immediately, but after months of use) so we have included a shim set in your package. The shim set will help shift the grind range back to factory calibration. We will have a video out soon detailing how to install the shims, or you can contact support@baratza.com and our team can help!
Hi, the manual states not to adjust the grind setting while there are beans in the hopper. However in this video the settings are adjusted with a filled hopper. Does this mean it's not that big of a problem to do this?
It also says that you can do it while the grinder is running… thats how it should be done if you keep your beans in the hopper all the time. For me I preffer single doze
For my dark roast beans, I set 18, the espresso seemed slow, and there was some water left on portafilter, so I changed to 19, and it was like mixing regular black with lot of milk, yuck, so it seems like 18 is the right setting, any idea why changing to 19 gave me water instead?
Happy to be wrong as I'm pretty new to this and still dialing my ESP in... One click in the espresso range is about 20 microns so there should only be minor changes in flow rate, between clicks. It's possible some other variable impacted things (Tamp pressure, dose size etc.)
@@DaeceJ I think maybe I used Tamp pressure a bit too strong.. Also this is a 51mm filter, dunno if I have to calibrate this different, I've gone back to 18, while I try debugging it. The espresso still tastes good at 18, just that I'm probably losing like 3ml of water.
Hi, im on setting 15 and 16 but my shots pull really watery. Im not sure whats goin wrong. Im currently using a 58mm portalfilter ( not bottomless). I use a distributor and tamper but not a puck screen. Where am i goin wrong?when i buy espresso ground coffee my shots pull great but with the baratza im quite stuck :(
Just got my ESP and it grinds dark roast coffee out of bag too coarse, I put the settings on 0 and its still too coarse for espresso, I also have fresh roasted specialty medium roast coffe and it grinds just fine on settings 12, dont know what to do, I tried three different dark roast coffees and its still too coarse on one..?
@@paulinedenises yes actually! I returned it and bought a DF64 Gen 2. Problem solved. In seriousness I did use a couple of shim washers under the bottom Burr to raise it up. But then it caused cloging issues. Adding to this the grind sizes were always extremely inconsistent producing a ton of fines. The machine was a headache. Save yourself the headache and get a better grinder. My DF64 Gen 2 has been a dream and dialing in my espressos is now a consistent calculated process rather and guess and check.
God i regret getting my fellow opus - I've just started getting into coffee and had the fellow recommended to me...biggest mistake ever. This grinder just seems to do everything right and I don't want to be so out of pocket by getting the Encore ESP. Such a shame.
Just ordered my esp - hope it arrives to the UK without delay!! Can’t wait!!

what's your experience with it so far?
@@blacksmith8594 It's the best grinder I've ever bought. Raised my espresso game for sure. I use it with a Breville Bambino Plus with great results.
Im at a 4 right now with my gaggia.

What portafilter are you using?
I have this fantastic grinder, what grinding level do you recommend for making cold brew?
Great video. Very helpful. Thank you!

I had the same problem! I think I found the solution. After seeing someone else with the same Issue made a short vid detailing it on my channel
Very informative thank you so much bless
Hi everyone I got the bambino plus and my espresso always warm almost cold , and I press the hot temperature button, any help please 🤷🏻♀️🙏🏼
I have the same issue
I turned the grind setting with beans in the hopper by a mistake, am I likely to have damaged the machine if I just did this once?
I had to add in a shim today, even at an 8 it poured out way too fast

your shot isnt slow ... you are counting from the pump start but you machine does a pre infusion so you are counting way too early ...
It seems easy until you use all the shims and you cannot achieve the grain size needed for espresso

You don have a grind problem you have a tamping problem. Setting one comes out like powder!
Why does mine just shit everywhere? I followed the instructions to a T
