Fun fact: Son Goku was inspired by Son Wukong, the Monkey King. His tail, his power pole and that crown are right from that myth
Way too many fans of DB don't know this. If anything they reject this fact because of certain narrative details made in DBZ.
I always preferred the Sun Wukong inspiration more. Mystical/Mythical lore is just more interesting to me.
@@jessecortez9449 All of DBZ can really be considered retcon/extra expansion because the series went on much longer than Toriyama had planned for. Evidence of this is the three major points in DBZ that could act as a potential series finale.
@@jmeds94 for sure. Definitely agree with you on that. I get in arguments with so many fans that claim Toriyama had absolutely everything planned out from the beginning. He wrote on such an insane schedule that we're lucky he had even a general idea for each arc.
Honestly, every series can almost be it's own contained universe since the changes are enough to qualify that. Each of the movies could be their own separate universes if you want to get nitpicky. Not to mention the games.
Regardless, I do love it all but OG DB is just on a whole other level for me. All the following works echo it's major plot points but amp up the hype and flashy aesthetics.
@@jessecortez9449 Couldn’t agree more. I always saw the Z movies as “what if” scenarios that branched off the main plot in case certain things did or didn’t happen.
@@jmeds94 completely false, he wanted to end it after frieza, the manga was never called Z, that is only a separation in anime, the manga is simply dragon ball and he wanted to end it at frieza, not earlier, so nothing until then is a "retcon"

@tarno_bejo_ she is lucky that she can watch on the ideal chronological order . Dragon Ball Z then Dragon Ball Daima then Dragon Super then Dragon Ball GT

She should watch all of DBZ first or it would take many people out of it.

About the voice actress of Goku in japanese, it stayed like that the whole time so there is not change when he grows up (she reached that episode in patreon)

Everybody has their own favorite Dragon Ball series. I started with original Dragon ball. There was no cartoon network back then. I had to watch it on the Spanish channel or Asian channel. And to wait many years for dragon ball Z to come to America.

She was of age back then too. Remember, it's the Japanese standard as well as the standard of the 80's.
That being said, the Japanese very rarely actually did anything with anyone that young even decades back.
it is funny to hear that there is a restaurant named Jimmy Chung on Scottland and that is why you say that Jackie Chung is Jimmy Chung sometimes . lol
There was also an episode of the X-files, possibly one of the funniest episodes in the series with the similar name 'Jose Chung from outer space' one of the running gags of the episode that made it so funny was the local detective, saying bleep whenever he was meant to be swearing, i used to call him Jimmy chung 😂

That crown looks just like Sun Wukong's. Didn't Sun's crown also tighten on his head? Anytime he refused to obey the monk dude? Must be a reference to Journey To The West!
You are correct, Akira Toriyama used Son Wukong as inspiration for Son Goku and dragonball, even the power pole is a monkey king inspiration
It definitely is a reference but Sun wukong’s “crown” doesn’t look like a crown. It’s more of a golden band in the original.
I'm pretty sure a cat could fall from Korin's tower and be fine. Cats sort of parachute at terminal velocity and can escape great falls unharmed. Falling beneath terminal velocity is more dangerous for felines.
This type of training was taken years later by several shonen including Naruto (sage mode) and in one piece
I've only been stung once and it was in my lower leg area. However the wasp's stinger got stuck in my sock so it didn't hurt as much as it could've so I was able to slap it away.
The point is that if he got excited at all, then he _doesn't_ have it down. Don't practice something until you succeed once; you must practice until you cannot fail.
yes the crown and the sacred water are the same. In order to get the strength from the water you have to be able to climb the tower. And in order to get the crown you have to be faster than lightning. So technical the legends are true

While this training arc may be filler, it's probably the best filler in all of OG Dragon Ball.
