I personally think around Namek it starts to not fit after the series leans so hard into sci-fi. I think the Faulconer track might have been better if it was allowed to be silent during Android/Cell but tbh I think Sumitomo is the best series composer.

Nah the next big arc and the final arc is much better in Bruce's version specifically a specific moment of Goku in both of those arc and a specific Vegeta moment in the Android arc is not as cool as it is in the Bruce version. But I would be lying if I said the final part of Gohan big moment is not good in the original. I wish she could change to Bruce on those specific moment and went back to original for the rest of it.

OG Dragon ball is top tier indeed. the goku-krillin training arc with Muten Roshi in OG is a perfect example of training for a purpose (going to the Budokai Tenkaichi).

What exactly were you expecting from jumping from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z when you said you were expecting a small change? Were you not expecting Dragon Ball Z to be so brutal and gory compared to Dragon Ball?
One thing you might wanna know is that dbz is kinda filled with Filler episodes wich in anime are episodes that deviate from the main story arc or plotline of the series. These episodes are typically created to give the manga (source material) more time to progress.
The thing that annoys me the most about all the DBZ filler is that not only are they mostly useless time extensions that do nothing but cause plot holes but they often defy a character's actual personality or experiences.

Goku taking long is part of the filler. DBZ is way way drawn out compared to the Kai version, but I guess that’s fine. I think Goku is only on Snake Way for two episodes in the Kai version. Goku reaches the end of Snake Way by episode 6. In fact, this whole “ Saiyan Saga “ is finished by episode 18. I’m enjoying seeing the filler again after many years ( mostly ) I’m not a filler hater, but sometimes you want to see the main story instead of Gohan playing with animals.
As a general point, Gohan is very intelligent. Goku may have also been, but he then had massive head trauma, and then didn't meet another human being aside from his Grandpa until he was 12, so him being gullible and kind of a moron is understandable.
