Jared you will enjoy that weather station, I have been using Davis stations for over 20 years, two different stations and I still have the first one only changed because I wanted additional features.
I just ordered the Davis weather station and am in the process of trying to decide where to put it. You video is just what I needed to see. I read ahead on the installation manual and did catch the part about not having to close to the roof surface, etc. If I decided to put it on the end of the roof I would probably just get one of those gable-end antenna mount kits. I don't have kids around anymore so I might have to have someone else put it in for me. I'm not sure if I could do it all myself. This was three years ago. How is the station holding out? How often did you have to do maintenance? Did it end up getting as scuzzy as the other one? I know there's some kind of battery backup so it can function at night. How often have you had to replace the batteries? I've been fascinated with how they do the temperature readings. I was always taught you had to put your thermometer in the shade to get an accurate reading. Somehow they've figured out how to get around that.
I was sent one to review but it didn't come with a pole and still need to get that. I have some time to do it and it was great seeing what you did. - I just opened it up. It came with a funky little Duracell battery. Not sure what that's for.
They would have given it free to you. I was on your chat Sunday show and offered free LED grow lights for review and didn't get a response. No Big deal but would have been for free.
You just never know with some companies. Oh well. As for the grow lights, I do apologize for not recognizing your offer. I really don't have a use for them right now. I don't do any indoor growing, nor the space for it.
Nice install, did you use pressure treated lumber or are you going to paint it for longevity? Not a fan of hanging off my roof thats why I ground mounted mine on a 15ft pole. I'll live with a little wind speed inaccuracy. Its kind of a trade off lower for temps higher up for wind just guess it matters what your most interested in.
Hi J&J Acres, the temperature problem you mentioned it's not just because of the proximity to the roof. There is something else as important as that. It's called Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield that none of your weather stations have. Get a Daycon or Davis Vantage Pro 2 with FARS. Regards
How often does the battery need replacing? Would you do a video of the base station? How far away can the base be from the sensor? Have you heard of the weather underground? This site posts local station information online great for wind direction scouting prior to a hunt.
Any particular reason you went with Davis over Acurite? We have an Acurite at the moment, but when we build our new place, I want something a little more advanced that will connect to the WUnderground systems.
The only thing more than 30 yards from my home in any direction is forest. This is the best unobstructed area to get good wind and precipitation readings. Good Q though!
The only thing I would add is if you are attaching anything metal to your house, you might want to run a ground wire from the pipe to an earth ground in case of a lighting strike. Safety first
That's what I want for the homestead. We just had an epic winter storm. Good to see what coming.
That's awesome Jared, I love seeing you work with the kids on these projects. Thanks again for sharing this.
I like when they help as well. Inthis case, Brandon just loves being on the roof, lol

That's excellent news!

Thank you for the detailed video. Now if I ever get a weather station.....
I highly recommend it. I know it isn't cheap though.
Those chain link fence top rails are great, for weather stations..
Good Job! and do have fun with new Davis. Mine has survived thunderstorms and a hurricane. All my weather info is on Davis weatherlink and NWS.
I need to look into the internet connection for it, just have to suck up the additional cost.

I'm jealous, we paid. The battery is if the solar panel isn't sucking up enough light.

Mounted mine about 55' agl, side mounted on a radio tower (3' stand off).

It is pressure treated wood.

Perhaps one day, but for now this is what we could afford. Thank you for the info.
The AcuRite 5-in-1 PRO+ (06014) also has fan-aspirated temperature sensing. No, I'm not a salesman.
Hello, where did you get those brackets that you used to hold the mast to the facia, or what are they called so I can find some?
Thank you.
Hey Jared, I just ordered Vantage Vue !!!
Any concern about attracting lightning with this? Maybe you want a wire to the ground from the base of the pole.
I'm not concerned, but Jennifer does want me to do that.
All metal masts need to be grounded to prevent static build up.
How often does the battery need replacing?
Would you do a video of the base station?
How far away can the base be from the sensor?
Have you heard of the weather underground? This site posts local station information online
great for wind direction scouting prior to a hunt.
Potentially never.
I will.
I'll have to look it up, some crazy distance.
I have.
That is a cool little gadget! 😊
Thanks!

I felt that even for ~$100 I expected it to last longer. Since it did not Jennifer decided not to spend money on the same company.
Hey great video thank you for sharing! Could you show us the user interface that is inside that shows all the weather readings?
I can in another video. If you go to the link in the description you could at least see it.
Do you have any problem with the long pole flexing in strong winds, that may interfere with the rain gauge sensor?
Nope, no problems at all.
Looks good.
Thank you :-D
Got dizzy for a minute there when you were pointing the camera over the edge! 0.0
Yeah, I'm not so keen on the edge of high-up areas either. Sorry about that!
Why not to build away from home? like 100 yards?

That is a fair suggestion to make. Thank you.
beltin vid.i have a davis vantage pro2 plus.
Excellent!
wow! That's tall!
Hopefully we'll get good readings for our efforts!
I like the gun fire in the background.
Life in the country of a county that hasn't taken away the rights of citizens. Sure do love it.
Yeah! it sounded like "Opening Day" of deer season!

Ladybug was hiding for the shots being fired, be smart do the same!
I am more likely to grab a firearm, some rounds, and go join them ;-)
