    I have a Vantage Vue since 2010. It works great and the transmission range is tremendous. I also have the data logger which is very good as well- HOWEVER.. it really is time to update the software: WeatherLink which is truly outdated.

    Don't forget to align the unit's solar panel to accurately point South. Accurate wind direction readings and maximum solar power generation depend upon this step. You'll need a compass.

      Use the north star, if you can find it. Depending on location, magnetic north can be a few degrees "off".

    Despite the rumors that Davis vantage vue is the 2nd best weather station out there for private owners the radiation shield is not enough by far, when the sun is between the angle of 18 to 35 it shows 2-3c too hot, daytime between 11 to 6 it works very good thought but if you want data that is comparable to airports and NOAA you have to invest in a daytime-fan and connect it somehow which i also will.

      Indeed, the morning sun heats it up much quicker than the actual temp..
      Then drops down in temp once higher in sky

    We have very high winds here. When it rains and the winds are high the rain seems to blow by the catcher and doesn't go into the spoon. Therefore the unit registers very little rain. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any way to fix this problem.

    • @davisinstruments

      For that kind of environment, you might want to upgrade to a Vantage Pro2 with the new AeroCone rain collector. It is specifically designed to be more accurate in high wind/light rain environments.

    I had mine almost exactly 3 years just loved but now out of no where it no longer receives any outside data even put a new battery in but nothing support says it is "probably" a 160.00 transmitter but no refunds so now I have a table top thermometer. Really disappointing for the cost of this unit and the weatherlink module was well over 500.00 I would have expected it to last longer than it did..

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад

      Hello Shafrin, my first guess is that your transmitter IDs either don't match, or your console is "hearing" another sensor suite that is nearby. Try resetting the IDs on both the sensor suite and the console from 1 to some other ID. (Instructions for how to do this are in the manuals. Click Support Documents on this page: www.davisinstruments.com/product/vantage-vue-wireless-weather-station/

    My Davis vantage vue does not register the correct rain fall and wind speed

  • @lfs-x1r
    @lfs-x1r 8 лет назад +4

    Vantage Vue does not get Temperature right!
    Because it does not have a fan inside the shield, once the sun hits it, the temperature increases way above the actual value.
    Get a Vantage Pro 2 instead. Believe me, I bought the Vantage Vue once and had to send it back and ordered a Vantage Pro 2 with Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield.

    • @johnlarocco6950
      @johnlarocco6950 6 лет назад

      I believe the "passive" aspiration system of the Vantage Vue is quite respectable in recording an accurate temperature. The Pro would certainly still be a "step up".

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  6 лет назад

      Luis, if your installation is in a place with high heat and low wind, the fan may be needed. Otherwise, our passive shields are fantastic! www.davisinstruments.com/product_documents/weather/app_notes/AN_24-temp-radiation-shield-comparison.pdf

    Does this solar panel on the outdor sensor charge the battery?

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  3 года назад

      Hw Lela. No, the solar panel runs the sensor suite and charges the supercapacitor to run it when there is no sun. The battery is a backup. It usually lasts a really long time, but if you live where there is less sunlight available it might need to be replaced more frequently.

    Having bought a Fine offset around 2 years ago I'm now looking to upgrade and looking at the Davis Instrument array I have a few questions. Despite my low budget device, I was able to have the barometer, rain gauge and thermometer in my sheltered garden around 1.5 metres off the ground, thereby giving me an accurate air temperature reading. The wind recording equipment was on a pole 10 metres up. My questions therefore is if I use this all in one Davis Vue and I fix it 10 metres up, will the temperature be affected by the wind chill? My garden is enclosed, south facing, protected by other houses and quite sheltered from the wind. I live in the UK.

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  7 лет назад +1

      We're sorry for the delay, but wanted to be sure to get the full answer from our Tech Support crew for you. Here's what Leticia in Tech Support had to say:
      Wind Chill is the perceived decrease in air temperature felt by the body on exposed skin due to the flow of air. Mounting the Vantage Vue 10 meters in the air will have an effect on temperature vs if it were at 1.5 meters. However, the temperature in an enclosed greenhouse will have a larger difference in temperature vs outside. Many factors can play into temperature variations. If you want to know what the temperature is in your green house then that is where you should place the station. A better option would be the Vantage Pro2 so you can place your anemometer at 10 meters and temp sensor at 1.5 meters.

      Thanks for the reply and I understand all that you say. I think I've decided to look at weather stations that can be separated and as good as the Vantage Vue maybe I don't really think its going to be best suited to me. I have looked at the Pro 2...There are a couple of competitors out there which do come well reported but sadly are not the quality of Davis. Thanks again for your reply.

      Ooooh sorry we missed this question! Yes, the barometer is in the console. You can store some data in the console itself, but if you add a WeatherLink data logger you can archive your bar data (and all data) forever!

    I have the Vantage Vue . It's 2 to 3 degrees too hot during the day and is 2 to 7 degrees too cold on cold windless nights . No matter where I put the station on my property , high or lower in height , the same discrepancies in temperature happens. I had my unit sent back to Davis to check out the temp sensor but they sent it back with the thought nothing is wrong with it and it is calibrated correctly . Well I'm tired of it (Temperature) with being gigged by CWOP quality check, thus failing Q check. Also the wind speed/Direction is constantly fails Qcheck. It is way too expensive to have this happening . So I bought a Tempest WeatherFlow to use and to see if the same temps/Wind happen as with the Davis . Not happy with the high money paid for the Vue . AS of right now I do not recommend anyone to purchase one.

  • @ColinMill1

    I'm sure there would be a lot of UK residents who would like to buy your instruments but you need to be aware that your pricing policy is killing sales here - perhaps one of the most weather obsessed nations on Earth. At the moment a Vantage Pro2 with FARS is more than twice the price in the UK than it is in the USA.
