    What you'll need: Soft cloth, Philips screwdriver, Soft brush or pipe cleaner, Optional: mild soap, water
    Steps to clean your Vantage Vue:
    1) Clean out the debris in the cone. Remove the debris screen and use a pipe cleaner or brush to clean it off. Replace the debris screen in the cone. For greatest accuracy, clean your rain collector a few times a year.
    2) Unscrew the thumb screw to release the tipping spoon.
    3) Use a damp cloth to clean the tipping spoon. When necessary, use mild soap and water. Rinse well. Reattach to the sensor suite.
    4) Clean the exterior shield with a damp cloth.
    5) Once a year, remove the shield for a thorough cleaning:
    Take apart the radiation shields using a Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws. Place your hands under the shields as you remove the last screw so they don't fall apart. Keep the shields in the same order that were in when you removed them. Set aside the shields.
    6) Use a brush to clean the mesh. When necessary, use mild soap and water. Be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly before placing back on the sensor. Do NOT spray any water on the sensor.
    7) Replace the radiation shields. Again, be sure they stay in the same order as when they were removed.

    My favourite weather station after owning different manufacturers over the years. Fault free running and perfect accuracy for the last 5yrs.
    Love when it rains hard and it says “Raining Cats and Dogs” 🤣
    Wind speed record is 124km/h
    And you can play PONG on the display unit 😀

    I pencilled the number of each item of the shield on its upper face starting from top to bottom. It also ensures they get assembled the right way up.
    Incidentally, the shield hasn't been screwed fully home at the end of the video.

    OK, examination of the publicity photos (there appears to be no other source of this information) suggests that the two blanked-off shields go at the bottom, the ones with central holes, above.

    I need to replace or clean the wind cups? Also, the antenna on my inside station broke. I've not found a good way to repair it. Any suggestions?

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  2 года назад

      Hi Linda. You don't need to replace anything really unless it is broken, or in need of a little proactive tune-up on an older station. But keeping your station clean is part of regular maintenance - wind cups too. I am not sure about your question about the antenna. (The antenna is in the white solid tower structure above the solar panel.) I think a call to our wonderful Tech Support team is in order to help solve whatever is going on! The Vantage Vue has Solar panel

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  6 лет назад

      Good idea, Shannon, thanks! The battery should last a very long time, usually more than 2 years, depending on solar charging. (Even without any sunlight it should last a good 8 months or more!)

      It has a thumbscrew easily removed by hand. Replacement is a 123a lithium. Found some locally at lowes for very good price.

    Where can I find directions on changing the wind speed cartridge' on a Vantage Vue.? Or just tell me if it is a matter of taking off the radiation shields and unscrewing it or is there more stuff underneath there to remove?

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  3 года назад

      Hello Jhon, to replace the cartridge, you would start by first removing the cups. This will require the .05 inch Allen wrench that came with the unit.
      Then, remove the four screws from the bottom of the sensor suite that hold the upper white shell.
      Remove the upper shell, and inside this shell, you will see 2 screws that hold the cartridge into place. Remove these screws, then remove the cartridge, and then insert the new cartridge. Then just reverse the procedure.

    I bought ONE and DONE....The wind direction is backwards by design.

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад

      No way, David! The wind on a Vantage Vue is factory calibrated to report north when the solar panel is pointed south. If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, we tell you how to easily calibrate it so you can point your solar panel north and get correct wind direction.

    With this design , aren't the birds going to use the collection baskets as a toilet
    The previous design did until Davis came out with redesigned collection basket . My present one is working great otherwise ( vantage pro 2 )
    and hope parts are going to be around for awhile

      Birds, leaves, spiders... all can block the rain collector. Routine maintenance is the best way to keep your rain accurate.

    • @RemE14MZ
      @RemE14MZ 4 года назад

      Yes, birds do like to sit and mess into the rain funnel. I found this was bad in only one week of use. I decided to make a bird deterrent, get some thin 1mm carbon fiber rod material, cut it into 3" lengths, about 8 of them. I took a large stainless steel hose clamp that fit around the rain funnel. I marked 8 evenly spaced spots around the inside of the hose clamp. Next I hot glued the 8 thin rods around the inside of the hose clamp. Now I gently clamped this "crown of thorns" onto the top of the rain funnel. It has been in place about two years now and there is never any bird debris in the funnel! This is an easy fix and saves a lot of maintenance intervals!

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад +1

      Hi Wayne. Birds aren't usually such a problem on the Vantage Vue. The rain collector is not as big or deep, and the edge is not really bird-perch-friendly. The Vantage Pro2 rain collector comes with bird spikes.

      I did get the redesigned collection bucket , the one that has the pins on it This did help alot .
      The other one when the Robins are hear , cleaning was a daily affair

      @@davisinstruments Hmm, my VantageVue was plenty bird friendly, they made a big mess of the rain collector in no time, you should offer a slip-on crown of thorns for this model in my opinion.

      If there is a problem that needs a repair, you'll need to see the reseller in your country. But you might be able to fix the problem by following the steps below. Our Tech Support specialist gave these instructions for your to try:
      I would recommend checking that the console is connected to the station properly.
      - Are there waves blinking around his antenna tower? (see attached image)
      - If the transmitter is on ID 1, change the transmitter ID. You can also find these instructions here: www.davisnet.com/resource/change-transmitter-id-vantage-vue/

    I changed my wind vane and now the wind direction is backwards. the new vane has the flat spot the same as the old one that fits the flat spot on the shaft. how do I calibrate it to show the right direction. Vantage View

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад +1

      The unit is calibrated to be correct when the solar panel points south, which is as it should be for max charging in the No Hemisphere. We suggest you take the vane off and reinstall, rather than calibrating. Hold the sensor suite on its side with wind cups on your left. When you hold it this way, the wind vane shaft is horizontal and will orient itself so that its flat side will face the right. Slide the wind vane on, with the "arrowhead" pointing down. The end of the shaft should be just visible on the bottom surface of the wind vane.
      (You could calibrate the console - instructions are in the console manual.)

    Vantage Vue does not get Temperature right!
    Because it does not have a fan inside the shield, once the sun hits it, the temperature increases way above the actual value.
    Get a Vantage Pro 2 instead. Believe me, I bought the Vantage Vue once and had to send it back and ordered a Vantage Pro 2.

    • @patrickgrant3458
      @patrickgrant3458 5 лет назад +2

      i have not experienced that. my temp has been perfect. If anything it actually runs a touch .2-.5 below the closest airport value. I would contact davis tech support if temp readings are too high

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  5 лет назад

      For most installations, a fan is not needed. The passive radiation shields on our stations are very effective if the station is installed correctly. However, if yours is an environment with high heat and low wind, a fan can make a big difference. We have two options of fans for Vantage Pro2. You will love your Vantage Pro2!

    • @alfindigo

      The temp sensor on my Vantage Vue works perfectly. No need for a fan or upgrade to a VP2.

    So "replace the shields in the order you took them off". How helpful is that? If you knock over the pile or wash them, what order are they supposed to go? Why not just confirm that? Why the obsession with making things sound simple, which over-rides providing the information you may need?

    • @ricktherecorder4416
      @ricktherecorder4416 5 лет назад +4

      Number them 1 to 5 with a permanent marker. Then there's no problem. And my advice is: don't do this as she does it. Take the unit to the workshop or kitchen table, so that when you remove the screws, debris filter etc there is no danger of dropping them in the long grass where you'll never find them.
