    What you'll need: Soft cloth, Philips screwdriver, Allen wrench, Soft-bristled brush, Optional: mild soap, water
    Steps to clean your Vantage Pro2:
    1) Clean the UV sensor with a soft cloth and, when necessary, denatured alcohol. Don't touch the diffuser with your hands.
    2) Clean the solar radiation sensor with a soft cloth, dampened with water. Don't touch the diffuser with your hands.
    3) Remove debris screen and clean out the debris in the cone. For greatest accuracy, clean your rain collector a few times a year.
    4) We recommend that you open the transmitter shelter (the white box with the solar panel on the front) and disconnect the sensors from the interface before continuing so that you don't add false data when you touch the sensors.
    5) Remove the rain cone from the sensor suite.
    6) Use a damp cloth to clean the tipping buckets. When necessary, use mild soap and water. Rinse well. Also clean the rain collector drains.
    7) Take apart the radiation shields using a Philips screwdriver to remove the three screws. Place your hands under the shields as you remove the last screw so they don't fall apart.
    8) Set aside all but the top plate, which has the sensor, until you're ready to put it back together.
    9) Use a soft-bristled brush to clean the mesh. If there's a lot of debris, you can take the basket off and use mild soap and water to clean the mesh. Rinse well before returning it to the sensor.
    10) Remove the wind cups with an Allen wrench. Use a damp cloth to wipe the shaft. Use mild soap and water to clean the wind vane and cups. Rinse well, then reconnect the cups.

    Nice to see the person I just talked to yesterday when I called Davis tech support :>)
    Your video is very helpful as you were in person on the phone.
    P.S. I encourage Davis to offer a tour/open house - good marketing tool.

    Glad you made this video! I've had mine since Oct 2007 and have only cleaned the rain collector when bird doo doo has clogged it. I've also replaced the battery once. I got a new styled rain collector with the debris shield and bird spikes a couple months ago, but haven't installed it yet. I've had some problems in the winter with the outside temp/humidity sensor intermittently quitting for a couple weeks at a time, but when the weather gets better it works. I also have the fan aspirated shield, and from further reading I doubt the fan works any longer, but it seems to be reading very accurately still. Sounds like I'd better start giving it more TLC after watching this video as it wasn't exactly an inexpensive purchase. Thanks!

      If you continue to have issues with your fan and/or temp/hum sensor, please feel free to contact our fantastic Tech Support team at support@davisnet.com. You might even connect with Leticia whom you see in this video. :)

      Thank you! I'll have to look into all of this, but mine's on the roof and I haven't felt like working on this yet as I've got some arm problems since last winter not getting any better; thus not even the rain collector done yet. But you guys will be the first to know when I do. I know my temp/hum sensor is an old style, and a few years ago they were very expensive, but could be rebuilt for about half the cost of new. From what I've read you've got a completely new sensor for a lot less money. I'll get all of this back into good shape this summer. But for being up there since around Oct 2007 this unit has been extremely reliable, just mainly rain collector issues with the birds and that sensor.

    These are great, high quality videos! However, there seem to be very few Davis Instruments-produced Vantage Pro2 videos besides this one. Please produce a more comprehensive set of videos like the ones for the Vantage Vue.

      I was experiencing a constant N reading on my console. The wind speed would register and direction would stay on the N. I was concerned if it was the anemometer itself or if there was a problem with the control panel. I contacted Davis and they sent me a test cable to determine if the problem was in the anemometer or the panel. It turned out the anemometer was bad. I replaced the anemometer and all is back to normal. Thank you Davis!

    Aren't you supposed to disconnect the system from the data logger? All those tips were logged as rainfall when the tipping buckets were cleaned....

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад

      If you are using a data logger, that would be a good idea, Phil!

    • @JasonKaiser
      @JasonKaiser 4 года назад

      @@davisinstruments I think Phil meant the Integrated Sensor Suite. Your own manual www.davisinstruments.com/product_documents/weather/manuals/07395-333_IM-6322C-6334.pdf on page 41 specifically mentions: "Cleaning the rain collector and tipping spoon may cause false rain readings. Unplug
      the rain sensor from the sensor interface before cleaning so that no inaccurate readings are logged"

    Is there an order for the radiation shields to be stacked in? (the sensor being on the top)

    Not so easy to do maintenance when the unit is on a pole 20ft up 😉

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад +2

      Derek, the rain and temp/hum part of the sensor suite should really be mounted at 6' above the ground. One big advantage of the Vantage Pro2 is it allows you to mount these sensors at 6', and put the wind sensors up at 30', where they should be. That also makes maintaining the rain collector much easier. But not as exciting.

    • @derekbarr4763
      @derekbarr4763 4 года назад

      That's good to know. I usually have to send my buddy up to unclog the rain cone in the fall. I'll leave the anemometer up and see if I can find a suitable spot at a lower level.

    • @koreymayo8884
      @koreymayo8884 3 года назад

      Make a sleeve in the ground and then stick a 20 foot pole and anytime you need to do maintenance just pull the pole out of the sleeve in the ground and then you never have to climb a ladder! One day I'll do this and make a video.

    Just clean the uv and sun sensor and the rain bucket, no more.
    The rest just gives damage and is not adviceable, the temp sensor is very fragile and the rain buckets insite is clean because of the filter in the cone.

    • @BigTulsa
      @BigTulsa 6 лет назад

      Wrong. Cleaning yearly is my mantra on these and the temp sensors is not that fragile. I've cleaned it every year since 2013 without any issues. Once you get good at it, you can dissasemble, clean (usually take mine inside and clean the all the platters and screen), and reassemble in usually less than thirty minutes.

    Do I need to disconnect the receiver prior to start the cleaning process? I mean, if I start moving the raing collector or other sensos, the system can get and store false readings? Mine is wireless.

    • @davisinstruments

      Good question! We do recommend that you open the transmitter shelter (the white box with the solar panel on the front) and disconnect the sensors from the interface before cleaning.

    What is the cleaning frequency for each sensor in dusty environments?

    • @davisinstruments
      @davisinstruments  4 года назад

      It's really as needed. If you are in a very dirty environment keeping it clean might mean some wiping down every month. Once a year you should do the big clean up where you dissemble it, but keeping the rain collector clean or debris and dirt, webs, etc off the radiation shield and anemometer should be done as frequently as needed! You don't need to disassemble it- just remove the rain collector, wipe down with a soft damp cloth.

      If there is a problem that needs a repair, you'll need to see the reseller in your country. But you might be able to fix the problem by following the steps below. Our Tech Support specialist gave these instructions for your to try:
      I would recommend checking that the console is connected to the station properly.
      - Are there waves blinking around his antenna tower? (see attached image)
      - If the transmitter is on ID 1, change the transmitter ID. You can also find these instructions here: www.davisnet.com/resource/change-transmitter-id-vantage-vue/
