I have a Davis Vantage VUE and just purchased the WeatherLink LIVE. I have always been fascinated with the weather and I am also an Angel Flight Pilot. Weather is always a big factor when flight planning, so I have multiple sources that I use when making my GO / NO GO decision. Looking forward to the additional information from WeatherLink and sharing it on line. Thanks for sharing your experience, feedback and suggestions on your video. Capt. Mike, Belleview, Fl

FYI you can adjust the console thermometer up or down to adjust for the backlight. If I recall correctly I lowered my temperature by 3-5 degrees to counteract the light.

Why don't they make a Windows version of the setup and real time monitoring App, Who wants to see weather conditions that happened 15 minutes ago? If the had put a web server in it, you could connect from any computer on your local network to set it up and monitor real time weather conditions using a web browser then you would not even need that console

Thanks for this video, I just learned what I needed to connect my Davis Pro II to the APRS internet. I have had my Davis since 2005 and looks slightly different than yours (the rain guage collector) the rest looks the same. So far I have not had to do anything for maint. except batteries which over the winter here in Canada don't get a full charge most days. Batteries last 9 months average so replace every fall just to be sure it transmits all winter.. 73 and I'll look u up on QST

I have a Vantage Vue. It's probably 5 or 6 years old and I think I need to do the first rechargeable battery change since I put it up. It's a great unit.

I had my Davis Vantage Pro, circa 1997, up until 6 months ago. Its been up at 4 different locations and cleaned before each remount. It still works but I was having difficulty recording and keep data on my Linux computers. Davis, at the Dayton Hamvention, assured at least 5 times that software would be written for Linux. Never happened. It was time to come down. I was and still am considering buying one of the new technology stations but I would still have the incompatibility problem with Linux as I've had in the past. I know there is open software available that others have been able to make work but their skills with Linux are probably better than mine. My station was connected with twisted pair telephone cables with RJ11 jacks at each end of the cables. I only had one problem which quickly solved. In winter the rain gauge ceased working due to icing. I solved the problem with a 60 watt light bulb in an enclosure to permit the snow in the cone to melt so the water would drop into the bucket. Same solution many hams with rotators use to keep their rotators from freezing in the cold winter temperatures. Nice to see the price come down. I paid $225 more for my station new from a dealer. Nice video Eric. 72 KB8AMZ

My vantage VUE has the same issue with inside temp. I leave the internal lighting on and the temp is 4 to 5 degrees off. I also have had issues with the battery backup. First battery lasted 3 or more years, second one about a year. Now the new battery does not work at all. It goes to sleep about half way through the night when the solar capacitor runs out of juice. Install a new battery, and same low battery in transmitter 1 message.

So I asked for a weather station for Christmas, but not a Davis, I don’t believe. I’m into weather as well, and hope I get one. When I get it (if) I will definitely upload stuff if I can and let you know which one I receive. (I hope). -73-

I did have a weather station at my old address, but we left it there and it was either stolen when the property was empty or the new people took it down, either way it has gone. I can't remember what make it was, but it had no connection the the Internet, I bought it before we had internet so at that time I didn't even think about connecting it.
I would now, but I would be the few in this country that do this, according to popular belief the rain gauge would get a lot of use. This is not the case though, if you don't like the weather around here, wait five minutes and it will change, though last few days has seen a lot of rain! I have never looked to see if there are many connected to the Internet over here, but most that have stations are sending it to the Government Weather Dept., or are schools etc. Be Interesting to look it up though. This I will do.

Ok, I looked it up and it is mostly as far as I can see, Clubs like private yacht, airport, gulf, schools, power companies, Water companies etc. I did come across a forum here, but it has mostly fell into disuse, I also came on an Internet site, but it is all of the above mentioned clubs. I know there are private weather stations, but most are entered into a book, some details are sent on to the Met office, this is just for keeping records. Though others might know otherwise!

I just don't get it. Everyone is talking about how wonderful the Davis units are and how accurate, however, it can't even get the basic indoor temperature correct! LOL Come on, don't be sheep, refuse to purchase such a premium product until they fix it! They have a design flaw - also, are you really going to shell out another $250 just to connect it to the internet? Dunno, but seems like a real basic requirement to me, not an option at an additional cost!

Thank you for the explaination video. This would be my weather station, but I see the app is not ipad compatible, does not work horizontally. To bad. Maybe Davis fix this, otherwise I look somewhere else.

An old program from 2002 that I still use called Virtual Weather Station lets me do this. www.wrknradio.com/Wx/wx.htm The program is no longer supported, but it is still available. It also includes and supports a small program that runs along with VWS and it uploads data to APRS, Weatherunderground, CWOP. I've got an older dedicated computer that I run the program on and have all my weather data going back to 2002 when I started. I do have and have looked at the Davis Weather link program and simply do not care for it as it is rather lame.
