Parkway Drive - Five Months (guitar cover)

- I tuned my Washburn X50 Pro FE to drop B (that's the low E tuned down 2.5 steps, and the rest of the strings tuned down 1.5 steps) so I could jam along with some Parkway Drive. This is one of my favorite songs from their album "Horizons". This song was actually a bit harder for me than I thought it would be, because my alternate picking across strings is a bit sloppy. However, I think I got it down pretty good. There's a cool little solo near the end of the song.
RUclips is automatically applying compression (WAY too much) to the audio, making it sound like crap IMO. It is also making the audio and video go a bit out-of-sync. The original video file sounds great and plays perfectly in-sync on my computer, so it's out of my control. :/ One thing that helps is to click the "high quality" link below the video.
This song was relatively easy to transcribe by ear, but I have to thank musicman1066 for pointing out a few mistakes in my original transcription. He has a a great ear.

I love this guy and all the covers he has done .. he helped me tab one of his songs over 6 years ago.
Really look upto him and i wish there was a way I could reach out to him now.
I don't know anything about what he is doing now. The only thing we can guess, is that he needed time for his children so he had to stop making youtube videos.

@kyrorayne He seems to play mostly intermediate, and some more advanced songs too, sure. But there are still so many guitarists who exist who can play these songs, he just has higher quality videos and has his guitar recorded into a device that isn't an average camera. And he's overrated compared to people like Erock or Musicman, who are far more skilled and don't have nearly the views that this guy has.

i got a cheapo guitar off ebay like just over 2 years ago. Its an Econ, red, strat style electric. 3 single coil (now only 2 and a humbucker replaces the bridge pickup, nice and cheap one tho, i think it was 60 bucks). Don't be off put by it bein' off ebay, it cost me 90 bucks and i got a good amp (but it shit itself so i got the spider), a soft case, strap, lead, and picks. The only major problem is that the middle pickup doesn't work anymore, but that doesn't really matter coz i don't use it.

I wouldn't knock this band at all either. I love their work. Hopefully everyone who took my comment the wrong way will settle down. Either way, good playing Buckeye. Keep it up. Nice to see some ppl talking shit on how easy this song is... if you're not a guitar player better keep your mouth shut, and if you are, try to play it perfectly and syncronized to the backtrack as killbuckeye did... I play guitar for about 2 hard work years, and I'm not even close to play it perfectly. some people just talk to much.

@FunGuyYves he said that the E string is tuned 2.5 steps down and the other are 1.5. this make the tuning from Standard(EADGBE) to Drop B( B-G♭-B-E-A♭-D♭)
if he was only 1.5 whole steps down from standard he'd be in C♯/D♭ tuning(D♭-G♭-B-E-A♭-D♭) maby you were thinking 1.5 whole steps down from drop D because in that case your both right........hope that helps XD
@pjl1979 no i did not say that. I have EMGs in my KH202. But i would not dare to think they are the sames EMGs in the KH2 that killrbuckeye has. My KH202 cost £400 and killrbuckeyes' KH2 costs around the £2000 mark. Obviously they are not the same EMG pick ups in both guitars. Have some common sense.
BFMV as metal?
I wouldn't put BFMV in metalcore either.
I'd put it in Emometalcore. I could almost take away the metal from it, making it Emocore.
BFMV is garbage. I don't really like metalcore, but I can still stand it sometimes, and sometimes it's pretty good.
I have no respect/like for BFMV though.
if your trying to use a low tuning, it may help to use thicker strings but they may cause a rattle themselves if your guitar can't handle them I use 11 and 13 gauge 11 for d and c tuning, 13 for b and A tuning. but if you're guitar can't handle them they will rattle and distort horribly, the good point is the strings won't feel way too loose.
Drop B is a tuning. If you want to get to it and you have one of those little Korg tuners, imagine each 'Flat' like a letter. Normally, no flats, it's Standard (E) tuning.
Try 4 flats, you'll get B Tuning.
Afterwards, 'drop' the first string until it sounds like a powerchord when you hit the first and second. Bam, you're in Drop D
amazing cover. I don't listen to PWD but they have sweet guitar lines. Now I wish I had a gutiar that I could put in drop B and it sound sweet like that so I guess my RRV has just been called to drop down half a step. By the way, the guitar you have would be great for that I just don't have one. I should stop complaining, I got another 7 string. :)
haha okay first off..Bring Me The Horizon looks like complete crap compared to Parkway Drive. PWD is easily one of the top labels out their in the screamo/metalcore/hardcore genres. No one will ever touch the albums "Killing With A Smile" or "Horizons". by the way..you are epic at the guitar. nicely done, best covers I have seen!

The EMGs on the FE make it better suited for metal.
The Seymour Duncans on the standard X50 PRO make it more suited for rock/hard rock, but it still does metal (although not nearly as well as the EMGs).

after watching you play this song for the umpteen time, i decided to have a look at how much the Washburn X50 pro FE guitar was (im thinking of buying a new one) and to my surprise, its listed on the internet as being only £400! have you seriously got that sound out of such a modestly priced guitar?!!
Haha yeah I know what ya mean! But the sweep picking part is very hard to hear it ouf the song and of course very hard to play! Anyway, I think Musicman did a great job. Yeah, you could be right in your opinion when you say, that Killrbuckeye would play it smoother and nicer! (:

I hadn't listened to this song in so long, for some reason it dug itself into my head and I was jamming to it during school in my head. Couldn't even remember the name of it. Went home and learned this shit. Parkway Drive is the most ridiculous band ever. :D

it's probably easier for u but 3:21-3:27 is usually played with two handed tapping
it's fine for this song but if you try more complicated songs like romance is dead then you need to do it with two hands

the no inlays is a very clean look.. and i think it looks better once you get used to it.. in all truth, the inlays are just there to help beginners figure out where the frets are fast. once someone learns the guitar, they can find the frets they need just by knowing the guitar.

oh just get a set up dude but since ur guitar is fucked up now i dont know but thats what i did with my old guitar i got a set up and they fixed the trust rod so i can drop c and what not and now i can use higher guage strings which are good depending on what you play

Oh and i saw ur comment on string guage. .56 and above like u said are too thick and wont sit properly on nut or saddle. Try using a .54 instead it feels great and it is still withing range :)
you've turned me on to The Human Abstract and now Parkway Drive with your vid's. both are now in my list of favorite bands.
also, i agree with stillrages, inspiration on demand would be an amazing cover given your ability to transcribe difficult songs (especially those by All That Remains)

Tune your guitar into drop D (just the top thick E string down one step)
Then just tune all of your strings down two more steps, then you'll be in drop B.

@Spliffor u dont need a new guitar just get thicker strings if u realy need to and also there are good tutorials on youtube on how to set up a floyed rose properly.just follow that and you should be good to go
@mattrix950 yeah i know i never said you had to though, and if you listen real close you get a lil better sound off the way i described even if you do get good at bending with your fingers i know from experience.
