I see a trend among the premium German car manufacturers, especially Audi and BMW, and increasingly other brands with their 2024 releases. There are a lot of cost-cutting measures in the interiors mainly. Cheap plastics, no ambient lighting in the back, cup holders without covers anymore, and so on. Apparently, we have to deal with it - paying much more but getting less of a premium feel. Hmm...

Busy design language from the 00s/10s, with cheap materials throughout the interior. Especially looking at the center console and door pockets, just hard plastic. Crazy price for this product. Something only for the brand loyalists.

Correct. And this is probably one of the better examples of the model range. Audi's plastics on the base models are very cheap, and the press cars that get reviewed usually have expensive optional trims included.
hmm, my wife is interior engineer (developed for all german OEMs), and we test drove several Kias, Hyundais...she simply commented...when she would suggest the seen solutions for the interior, she would be killed by Audi. The interior is unbelievable bad at KIA!!!
Hi Thomas, would you still buy a diesel in the current market? Currently considering whether a turbodiesel from Mercedes is worth buying or has the market moved away from diesels for good?
@@autogefuehl Thank you for the reply. I am mostly interested in turbodiesel because I've been told Mercedes turbodiesels are durable than the petrols. True in your experience?
The center console looks like from a 20-30k euros chinese car, not from a 90k euro, what the hell, Audi? It looks and sounds CHEAP, I am sure it feels that way too.
Yes it was. Döllner said, "How can I possibly sell these priced so closely to the #$%&ing Porsche!" But that was all I could pick up. Personally, I think he's just chicken.
Thanks again for the detail. What is encouraging is that Audi’s engineering excellence is shining through again. Less encouraging is the software is still not quite right even though the displays look very snazzy. In fact why do you need so much display space at all? The prices are absurd, and it is worth thinking quite hard about car price inflation since - say - 2017 when I last bought an Audi RS3 at around £43k new. It is not a comparable model, but even quite recently I could get a great ICE drive for under £45k. At some point price resistance is going to kick in. The VW part of the Audi/VW brand still has quite a lot left to do on price and performance to go up against BMW’s Mini and Mercedes’ Smart.
Looks like a big step down in quality when compared with the Q8 etron. Hard plastics everywhere and infotainment looks outdated. The biggest issue of all however is the rear leg room. The Polestar 4 and others have so much more leg room. This was going to be my next car, however this review is making me reconsider. Is the leg room in the q8 better?
I noted a slight vibration of the main GPS Screen when viewed from the passenger side view whilst you were driving. Is this vibration normal? Dr. Ing. Richard Menegatti

Thomas was good enough to respond to some comments of mine a while ago. While I don't share (what I assume to be) his views on the ethics of farming animals, he made some strong points about the environmental impact of it.
I once asked a great Kabbalist about eating animals, and he said “all life is based on eating the dead, including animals, plants and vegetables etc.” I am not an expert on the effects of farming and the environment, and I would be surprised to learn that Thomas is either. I respect anyone’s right to their opinion, but I watch his reviews solely for the review of cars, not opinions on the materials the manufacturers choose to use. Thanks for the response Sir Bufton!
Love your videos, but very disappointed you only spent one minute on the infotainment. It’s brand new software that has significant impact on how you interact with the vehicle
Great review, Thomas, thank you! I was so looking forward to this car, and now I'm left disappointed. You are actually the only reviewer who mentioned the tight backseat legroom space, which I appreciate! I predict this will be a flop. Similarly to Polestar 3 and 4, it took Audi way too long to bring it into production - deliveries will begin when, like end of the year?! There is loads and loads of good competitors for about half the price or less.. Moreover, looking at how other e-trons have been doing in terms of residual value after even less than a year, I gotta say you will have to be crazy to buy one new. Give it half a year and there will be second-hand Q6s with at least 42% off. Really, really annoys me! It is a testament to the fact that European car industry is going to s.ite.
@@THjorth You summed it up nicely. Look up the incoming MG SUV, it's an EU sibling of some Chinese vehicle - but looks good. I'm about to buy my first premium German car and have my eyes set on a 8-month old X5 50e for about 100k EUR. That car can drive, and packs a punch when you need it. But I always liked Audi's. Sadly, outdated design language on their SUVs is a no go now. Mercedes is... Awful. But let's see, maybe we will take this in a year as a second car
I wonder if Audi screwed something up with PPE platform with rear leg room being the way it is. A bit disappointed really. Was looking forward to switch from Enyaq to this, but now I'm hesitant.
There is something called Q5...same size. Even numbers at Audi are EVs...uneven are Electric...but size can be similar or identical. This is why the new A4 ICE Car will be named A5...since the 4 will be added to a future EV. Why should they ruin a distinct EV Platform with an ICE? The result can be seen at BMW...smaller cabin space. BUT...they will also bring the "neue Klasse" in 2025 as pure EV, too.
@@josefv-y8m Yeah, but Q5 hasn't been refreshed for a long time, and a plugin option is too expensive for what you get for it.. they have q8 in all engines, if they had this designed q6 in all engines it would sell like crazy..
Dear Thomas, awesome review as always. To answer your question regarding most European brands not offering a frunk - I believe it's due to safety reasons. Car makers have no control over what is stored in the frunk, therefore it's near impossible to predict how the contents of it would behave in case of a frontal collision. This is why if they offer a frunk it's considerably smaller than for instance American ones - to force you to use it only to store charging cables at most, so if you get into a severe crash - the contents of the frunk won't alter the structural integrity of the car and won't have a negative impact on the efficiency of force absorbing elements of the chassis. Luckily, safety is held in high regard in Europe and even among European brands there are different choices being made. Take a look at Audi Q7 vs Volvo XC90 - the former has 3 isofix points across the 2nd row of seats, but Volvo only put two isofixes on the outboard seats of the 2nd row. Why? According to Volvo - even though theoretically the middle seat should be the safest for a child, if you happen to have three childseats installed at the same time - in case of a side impact crash the child seat installed in the middle is at risk of being crushed by the two other child seats installed on the outboard seats.
Hi Thomas, at 24:51 (chapter Driving fun) with the sun on the cockpit screen, one can see a rectangular black box. It looks rather cheap... Do you remember while driving that it was also very obviously visible?
For this price, the car is a big chunk of plastic. If you look closer you will see that VAG is making all cheaper and cheaper. Even the way mesh on the back door looks, in previous passat B8 for example it had its own place and was going on the same level as entire pease of door. Now in B9 like here it stays on ugly on top of the window plastic. Same for camera on B9 vs B8 it is no longer hiddne below the logo (i cleaned on B8 camera once in 4 years), and the button for the baggage is below in the dirty area. Wonder how much money they saved on making these things worse.
Quite shocking that the Q6 has less rear legroom than even a Q4? Not sure the Q6 is worth EUR 15k premium over the Q4 despite the 800v architecture which does not seem that much more efficient than the 400v architecture on the Q4...
Thanks Thomas! I've watched both your SQ6 and Macan Turbo videos and I'm leaning towards the Audi. What are your thoughts on how this car stacks up against an MB EQE 350? I just wish that the Q4 became part of the PPE but seems like it's staying as MEB platform.
I love the new interiors but I'm failing to appreciate the new designs for the exteriors. Currently driving a 23 sq5 and was considering an s6 next - but might look for a 24 model year
What a cheap interior. A lot of things are over complicated. There is no meed in two charger ports. Just extra wires and weight. No need in third screen, no need in glossy cockpit. All this effort should go into common sense and interior quality. Games in headup display. You kidding? How much money they spent to develop this useless stuff. What about improving efficiency of the car and UI of the menu?
2:43 definitely not. And in overall, if you have some electric doors - it's better to place somewhere separate button for it, so it will be more intuitive and user friendly.
As an Audi owner I see lots of cost cutting for the 2025 model year. I wonder if VW group is downgrading Audi to premium class and focusing its luxury resources on Porsche? I own a 2018 Q5 and 2021 A7 and both vehicles appear much more luxurious than the new '25 Audi lineup.
Hey Thomas..I am a great fan of your channel and started watching your videos in 2014. I was wondering why didn't you bring Liana in front of the camera back then like you do now? It would have added more zing to your reviews. She is the prettiest girl in the entire galaxy. I have Martian friends. They all agree with me as well.
It look like Budget car to me, same old same old design. Chinese EV cars able to throw in some massager, ambience lighting and a small drink cooler to make it look fancy! The last choice for me for an expensive EV car!
In my opinion, Audi has not understood its customers. The exterior design is a matter of taste, but I personally find it boring and gets lost in the mishmash. Audi used to design cars that looked high-tech. I don't find that here at all. The biggest step backwards is the cheap, uncomfortable and unsporty touch and slider operation. Here it becomes clear that Audi is only a shadow of its former self. I had hoped for the A6, but even Audi's own compact class offers a higher-quality control system. What a shame. The German manufacturers are deliberately destroying themselves and I can find no logical explanation for so little market feeling.
Mine will arice in KW35 and itll probably be a great car But man im so annoyed by it already. Cause it costs as much as a macan 4, but you CAN NOT option rear steer, and you can not combine ventilated seats with heated seats. The macan has both, and audi offers both in other cars. Also the color choices are so boring.
Audi is in a difficult position - they should be better than VW but not as good as Porsche. That is why I like BMW and Mercedes - they are trying to compete with both Audi and Porsche and on my personal taste they are somewhere between - better than Audi but still not Porsche.
It is amazing how long it took for Audi to get a dedicated EV platform car out. Yet it is heavy, and not so efficient. High price, mediocre software and hard plastic everywhere, with premium price. At least it looks good, drives good and is silent. The best deal is to wait for couple of years and buy one on the used market.
Is it possible to permanently turn off the speed limit warning? Is it possible to hide the current speed on the passenger’s display? With all these “silent car, smooth drive, no feedback from the outside” I would be happy to drive fast on the German Autobahn without making my wife nervous 😅
@@autogefuehl the temperature outside was 16 degc I was driving at 60 miles per hour in efficiency mode. I was also driving with the heating off. Only tapping the pedal to maintain 60mph
A smooth and relaxing ride ruined by constant bonging and chimes every time you do something the EU commission thinks you shouldn't be doing. I wonder, is the extra performance of the SQ6 actually worth it? Would you actually be able to use it unless you travelled on beautiful roads like that every day? And would you say this 'feels' like an SUV? It is taller than the Macan, but I guess the seats are the still the same distance from the road as it's on the same platform.
A cheaper alternative to the Macan EV but nowhere near as good in terms of styling, technology, performance or prestige. Audi should’ve done better like they did with the e-tron GT.
Technology is the very same... the PPE...prestige...if you are willing to spent 30% more...go ahead and buy a porsche. Seems marketing of porsche has made a good job to convince a lot of people to spent more money then needed to get similar quality and product.
@@josefv-y8m yes there’s a premium for the Macan EV because of the brand but also because it’s overall a better quality of product. Sharing the PPE platform doesn’t mean all of their technology is the very same. Do your own research and you’ll understand the differences in their technology.
microfiber is just dust and glue. Think about your dust in your house or apartment 😞 no try to select real leather or fake leather, ithat s really good
It's a good car that's now on my shortlist....just a shame the rear seats lack rearwards adjustment to provide more knee room when needed.....see what I did there...!!...🤣
Is anyone else still really on the fence about going full electric?? I'm watching these Rivian R1S prices fall on the used market and licking my chops, but at the same time the only real supercharger network in the U.S. is falling apart.

Hmm...
Hmm...cannot see, why soft plastic is no plastic...everything in a modern car is plastic, whether soft or hard.
This soft BS...just adds more energy in production. Have you ever seen and felt the heat in such a production?...adding a foam layer and a slush skin to the part?
This is a nightmare of wasting material and energy. It adds about 15kg to a car...ok, this is already a heavy beast, but would make it even more fat.
Everything you touch during drive must be soft...and this is all soft.

Depends on driving profile, if u do high + long milange trips? I don’t think they will be forbidden soon.
Also all depends on ur charging infrastructure

Legroom is really good in the q8 etron
Actually looks way better than the Q8. That one’s past its bedtime. And the SQ6 even beats the SQ8.

Thanks m8! I do agree
Thanks 🙏 good question. But i guess when the small battery is dead thats not the first issue
Interesting comments from the background Lol :D Others love the car too
I wish they also made petrol and plugin version of it.. just the size of the car I am looking for..

PS: someone feed that rooster!
Is this in the US? I see a glimmer of hope in Audi’s interior for first time in long time (of it looking like a butcher slab).
Finally new Audi that look actually fresh and new, suited for 2024
2:43 definitely not. And in overall, if you have some electric doors - it's better to place somewhere separate button for it, so it will be more intuitive and user friendly.
There is a “button” to open the charging flaps on the internal screen so you can do it before getting out of the car.
How does new virtual cockpit with full map display look like ?

Will the new Q5 be based on this platform
As an Audi owner I see lots of cost cutting for the 2025 model year. I wonder if VW group is downgrading Audi to premium class and focusing its luxury resources on Porsche? I own a 2018 Q5 and 2021 A7 and both vehicles appear much more luxurious than the new '25 Audi lineup.

It would have added more zing to your reviews. She is the prettiest girl in the entire galaxy. I have Martian friends. They all agree with me as well.
Loving the farm vibe..
The difference for the Macan is that you get Taycan level performance in acceleration and top speed.
Mine will arice in KW35 and itll probably be a great car
But man im so annoyed by it already. Cause it costs as much as a macan 4, but you CAN NOT option rear steer, and you can not combine ventilated seats with heated seats. The macan has both, and audi offers both in other cars. Also the color choices are so boring.
14:16 Enough headroom for a Sportback version 😇
How would you rate it vs a BMW IX?
Audi is in a difficult position - they should be better than VW but not as good as Porsche. That is why I like BMW and Mercedes - they are trying to compete with both Audi and Porsche and on my personal taste they are somewhere between - better than Audi but still not Porsche.
Remember when we used to laugh at Chinese brands interiors 5 years ago? How the tables have turned.
It looks a lot better then the Porsche, way better than the equivalent Mercedes and BMW too.
Seriously, this interior seems no better than a VW ID.7
Got way to excited when he said "Leah about to show us some exterior features"
It is amazing how long it took for Audi to get a dedicated EV platform car out. Yet it is heavy, and not so efficient. High price, mediocre software and hard plastic everywhere, with premium price. At least it looks good, drives good and is silent. The best deal is to wait for couple of years and buy one on the used market.
