Just wanted to let You know..... earlier this year, I watched & Learned how to tie the Egg-Loop Knot in which YOU did an EXCEPTIONAL Tuitorial ! Yesterday 8-31-17, went Salmon fishing on the Columbia River and was so proud to show my fishing buddy how to tie this knot ! The way YOU show how to tie this Egg-Loop Knot is a Great Help !!!! THANK YOU WHOLE BIG BUNCHES on your Time and Efforts of doing this Video !!!!! THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN ! This is Sooooo EASY now !!
Don that is an awesome story! Sorry to be replying so long since you posted your comment. But thank you, and I am extremely happy you were able to share it with your buddy!
Best video (out of a dozen I watched) to learn and follow directions on tying egg loop knot due to clear explanation and execution and the camera position and materials choice and background! Thank you!
Awesome thank you & all I can say is if you did it again use a bright fly line so it's even easier to see on a small screen like a phone or tablet but sits still a grate Instructions video thank you & good luck to every one out there fishing
video is great. the high vis line helps a lot. I never understood the difference between a snell and an egg loop. I would always just push the snell down the shank of the hook and push the line through the eye to make a loop. thanks again, I just need to practice some more.
Great video. This is a good loop when using frozen anchovy or shad as bait. Thread the bait correctly and the tail end will be pointed towards the line. Use the loop to secure the bait on the tail end. Once secure tou can add a bait button to ensure your bait won't fly off
Knowing how to snell a hook before coming here helps a lot. I see a lot of guy saying the knot is hard. Its really not, like i said if you learn to snell first. Really its just an extra few wraps, i think people may be over thinking it. Easy to do with knots.
best thing you'll ever learn next to the Palomar, ps Don't forget to wet your line before pulling long runs you'll see why wen you forget on a 3ft leader!
I don't get it... what are you wrapping around the hook again with the second wrapping step? My line doesn't do that and it's impossible to hold the other end when doing it? I'm sticking to the constrictor knot... way easier to tie and probably stronger.
*Perfect size hook for hatchery catfish that weigh between 3-5 lbs. my lip hook almost all the time unless your bait is very much desired by the fish>>> **allabout.wiki/1004** It's very durable made from hardened steel, I believe. You can use it over and over. It never rusts in my tackle bag. I use a knot less snell with a 25 lb mono filament leader line from Kastking for this hook. Its point is very sharp and can easily land a thieving fish. We landed many catfish with this hook. Best purchased in packs of 25 which should last you throughout the season.*
At 1:49 you say to put the other end of your line through the eye of the hook.... how do you feed the opposite end of your line through the eye when it’s attached to your bale?
So with the Egg loop knot, you need to tie the hook using a leader first. Once you have the knot tied, you will tie the leader line to your main line using a swivel or by using a knot for joining two lines together.
Thanks for this video. I can understand how this has 14 downvotes. I had never done this before and messed up my first try, then successfully tied 5 in a row.
Yes, have a bunch already tied up, never fuss tying on fishing trip, TIME save your time, MORE TIME IN WATER FISHING, MORE TIME "BS""""ing/visiting, you know. Its about quickly getting rigging back into the water, no fuss, QUICKLY! just cut line or snap in a new tied rigging GO! more fish more fun times more """BS"ing quality yeah!
Someone who hasn't done this . It would easily take 20 minutes to attempt and fail this knot. It's a great video. Great instruction.... but there's way way way way way easier ways if tieing this or similar to this knot
@@FTWQ yes I didnt know the name of it. But after searching Snell knot that's the one I'm talking about. Ty for understanding that I wasnt dieing your video. Very good video you teach very well
+merritt jackson Hey, so with this knot, you are going to be using a leader. And then once you have the egg loop knot tied... The other end of the line will be tied to your main line by swivel or with a double uni knot (which I have a video for, as well)
Anne, You can definitely tie any other knot directly to you main line if you weren't wanting to use a leader. However, I would always highly recommend leader material. The Leader lets you dial down or up your line poundage/rating for when the conditions or species calls for a change. Plus you can have it set up for quick lure changes that you have pre-tied to connect right to the swivel (that would be connected to the main line if you decided to use leaders) I hope this helps!!!!
I am not sure what you are asking exactly. With this knot, you tie the hook on first... and then the hook plus the remaining line becomes your leader. Hopefully that makes sense.
Yeah sorry about that. I use a swivel that attaches to my main line and then I use a leader which has the hook on the other end of that swivel so I was wondering how I can attach this hook to the swivel. So are you saying that the line that you use to make the loop on the finished knot can be tied to the swivel with any knot, say a polamor?
Yep exactly. So if you want a 2 ft leader... Grab 2 ft of line (plus a few inches for the knots) and then tie the end you pull through at the end of making the egg loop to the swivel on the main line. And if Palomar is your go to knot, that works great. I personally keep it simple with improved cinch(for monofilament or fluorocarbon leaders)
I don't understand. Every video shows them saying that after it's wrapped around the hook, to pull the other end through the eye. The other end of my string is wrapped around a reel. How do you tie this to a fishing line that's on a rod and reel, instead of using just a piece of string?
With this specific knot, it will only work with a leader. Once you have the hook and leader tied up, you will then connect it to your main line with a swivel or a line to line knot. Hope that helps!
@@FTWQ dur, I'm a dummy. Of course a leadwr. I must not have been paying attention. I did however try it earlier with the rod and reel, and I guess made a.weird version of this knot. It actually worked, the top loosened up for the bait and everything. Anyways, thanks for the tip. I'm going to go tackle some monster cats tonight.
could you not just tie a normal hook link knotless knot and then slacken off put the bait through the now slakened loop and the pull tight. I tied a normal hair rig added 2 halibut pellets pushed the line back through the eye a bit and put chicken liver through the loop and pulled tight and it seemed to stay on ok
Kevin Wilkerson i go to the shoe store and look for the free nylon socks they have for trying on shoes and take a handful. Use the thin nylons holds my liver 100% of the time
+69adrummer You just have to make sure the loop is closed tight on whatever you are looping in. If something isn't staying... Adding some stretchy thread will help as well. Sometimes you have to hook your bait multiple times to make sure it has good hold and then wrap the egg loop around the bait. I hope this makes sense and good luck out there.
Thanks man. I live on the West Coast and trying to get in to steelhead more. I fly fish mostly but can't live out here and NOT partake! Have a great 2017!!

thank you for this video! All the other videos on this knot have vague directions but you explain it clearly for a dummy like me! THANK YOU!

damn good video thanks
Thanks for this video. I can understand how this has 14 downvotes. I had never done this before and messed up my first try, then successfully tied 5 in a row.
Can the egg loop knot be used with all types of hooks?
Unfortunately it won't. The best type of hook would be an octopus style hook.
Ur video was awesome man
Thanks, Daryl! I am glad you enjoyed it!

Completely agree!!! 👍👍👍

@@FTWQ yes I didnt know the name of it. But after searching Snell knot that's the one I'm talking about. Ty for understanding that I wasnt dieing your video. Very good video you teach very well
Haha yep the Snell knot is a great knot! And of course! Thanks for watching!!!
great knot but it took a lot of patience for me since it took me 14 times to get it right
I give up on this knot I can’t get it to tie right
I dont understand it.. how do you use both ends of the line when one side is connected to the reel?
+merritt jackson
Hey, so with this knot, you are going to be using a leader. And then once you have the egg loop knot tied... The other end of the line will be tied to your main line by swivel or with a double uni knot (which I have a video for, as well)
this is for making a leader to attach to your main line
Do you *have* to use a leader? I see you cant use this knot without it, but cant you just tie the hook on the regular way?
Anne,
You can definitely tie any other knot directly to you main line if you weren't wanting to use a leader. However, I would always highly recommend leader material. Yes, that helps a lot. I have asked the question to a lot of people, and you're the only one who answered and even explained. I really appreciate it!
how would you attach this to a leader?

I tried doing this knot on 10 LB monofilament Just couldn't get it to work.

Hey Matt, Yep that works great as well.
Fucking finally. The video is awesome. Thank you.
Hahaha thank you very much!
I admitted defeat, and just use small rubber bands to hold my cured chicken liver on :(

Hahaha I don't blame ya! Sometimes I use miracle tread because the bait is just too easy to tear with the loop.
Kevin Wilkerson i go to the shoe store and look for the free nylon socks they have for trying on shoes and take a handful. Use the thin nylons holds my liver 100% of the time
dean hargis great idea
