Big shoutout to Doc Schmidt for sharing his incredible experience as a GI fellow! He's definitely been the source of much needed laughter for me and my med school friends through tiktok. If you haven't seen his most recent skit where I learn how to call my first GI consult, check it out here: ruclips.net/video/CSJQkr0lKwc/видео.html
Wow, it’s refreshing to hear a successful person who needs a lot of sleep! My husband and I both need 7.5-9 hours of sleep. We are both very busy in our careers, but it can be done. I go to bed not long after the kids, and get up early and try be efficient so I can get everything done and get to bed early again. Watching half of this on a quick lunch break!
Love Doc Schmidt! I would love to see him bring awareness to some interesting GI conditions like cyclical vomiting syndrome (both children and adults,) how many people actually have a gluten intolerance, Crohn's disease, etc. It's fascinating to me the connection between the brain and the gut. Thanks for another great interview Andy.
Doc Schmidt is awesome and definitely someone I look up to as a first year med student. He seems super patient and gentle and I can see how he can put people at ease.
Thanks Andy & Doc Schmidt! Just wondering if you would be able to do a 73-questions interview with a physician or specialist who started their career journey later than what would be considered 'normal' or average age, like late-20s to mid-to-late-30s or older. For example, people who have spent their working adult life in potentially an entirely unrelated field, what made them want to change careers, and what obstacles did they face when going through undergrad (if they hadnt already), medical school, and residency. Thanks in advance!
Omg I‘m dumb. Just came from Doc Schmidt‘s video and was wondering the whole time what the „ND“ stands for. Now reading „Andy“ in your comment makes me feel stupid lol.
Thank you for these series! Extremely informative and give a good insight into different specialities!! Interesting to learn about different specialities. Really appreciate the effort!! Absolutely enjoy these Keep up the great work ❤️❤️❤️
Video idea and you actually mentioned it: chart notes on a patient that comes to you through the ER, tech, and GI nurse. One condition that's written up by those 3 people. That ought to be a SMH video for sure
Love this series. The question never asked which aspiring doctors might want to know is how did you or how are you paying for your medical education. Doc Schmidt's father was a doctor; is he able to pay for his son's education, making it easier to make decisions as to how long to stay in school? The longer it takes the more it costs in loans, not to mention the continuous, rigorous courses of study.
I enjoy this series though I am really curious to know which specialty has the best jokes. GI, urology, or some other specialty? I love the Doc Schmidt videos. Thank you for the laughter!
As for the song id recommend The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd. To me it's about the experiences a person goes through when a loved one passes away. The backup singer does an excellent job at pitching between crying and grasping the gravity of the situation
I missed the ONE question I really want to know from someone who looked into the intestens: What do people eat when they have the best looking colon???? What is the best food you can get - is it vegan, is it vegetarien, what is the best food for a good looking colon?????
pretty sure the answer to this is always a balanced, varying diet. a specific diet like vegetarianism is going to lead to a significant amount of certain bacterias and little amount of other bacterias that will lead to issues. not a doctor btw, but someone with a lot of digestion issues that has asked doctors this question a lot
With all do respect, he's not become a gastroenterologist yet, fellowship training is still ongoing Big difference between a fellow and gastroenterologist
If it wasn't for dr Schmidt I wouldn't have found out I have Inflammatory bowel disease. I wouldn't have thought to talk to my dr about all the issues I was having and when I finally did he my family dr his jaw dropped and asked me why I never discussed any of it with him before. I never knew how many things the bowel can effect.
Song Dr. Schmidt would like dying people to listen to is "hallelujah" 🤣🤣 sorry I just find it funny because coincidentally this is the song I always sing and listen to after being swamped at work, going 3hrs overtime after an emergency procedure or dealing with extremely rude and difficult people 😂 it does soothe your soul a bit 😆
@@Doc_Schmidt I love your shorts!!! I always forward them to my doctor relatives. They all love them especially my brother who is a GI too! Keep up the good work!
Aside from the brain, the stomach is my second favorite organ in the human body. In another life, I'd either be a neurologist (or neuroscientist) or a GI doctor.

Inviting to awkward questions indeed! 😄
