Ryuzo cannot be immediately hated.
The game touches well on how the peasant class distrust the Samurai. Ryuzo was so unsure of being rewarded by Lord Shimura that he sided with the Mongols
@A E Agreed. The Komoda Beach massacre was ridiculous. The samurai cared more about honor than protecting the civilians
I never hated ryuzo and always thought he was cool asf ngl

Not only that but Jin tried to help the straw hat ronins get food for like 2 missions and failed.
I remember hearing the conversations at their camp that they were soo malnourished that when tried to shoot wild boars with arrows, they got hurt.
Uh..no..he didnt join jin because him uncle would have sent them to die because he isnt willing to fight without honour
When I first encountered Ryuzo, I was so shocked. The story really got me there. I felt so betrayed in real life just like Jin was in the game. What a masterpiece of a game. Really. Incredible.

Personally I feel Yarikawa was more of the point Jin realized he must become the Ghost to save Tsushima and not as much when he first fought Ryuzo
Well in Yarikawa Jin was still partially a samurai with pieces of his past life still with him (Ryuzo was still alive and his uncle was still supporting him), but after his fights with Ryuzo he had lost all things from his former life, he lost his oldest friend, his lordship and samurai title, as well as the support of his only family left, Shimura
I can't help but agree with Shimura on this one. Because Jin acted out of spite and pure rage because of Taka, he ultimately killed his clan and became a criminal himself.
@@itzmrinyy7484 personally I think thats why he is so heroic, he sacrifices everything he ever had from his honor to his family to his clan, in order to save his people.
@@literallyjuststairs6765 He never acts out of pure selflessness, yes it may be so in the early stages but later on, like at the Yarikawa massacre and here too, he's acting out of rage and hatred. He didn't kill Ryuzo because he thought it was just, he killed him because he was heavily responsible for the death of Taka. He doesn't behead the Khan and insult his legacy out of desire for any tactical advantage, it's to fuel his own hatred of the Khan and as a means of vengeance.

if jin was okay with lying he could of said "ryuuzo called me over to settle this, but once i arrived he had gone and poisoned the whole enemy camp! He tried to come back to our side but i made him answer for his crimes."
woulda been a SPEECH: 100 moment.
Except it would have been a shit moment for the story
He wasn't acting as "Jin" anymore, at this point he was already in the final phase of fully embracing "the Ghost". To lie would be to undermine his actions, accomplishments, faith and the trust that the people had placed on his legend, besides even though he's changed I don't think he'd lie to his own family given their history together.
But lying wouldnt solve anything. You see Jin knew he couldn’t just be an honourable samarui to save Tsushima he needed to be more than that he needed to fight with dishonour become the ghost. He couldn’t lie to his uncle because why would he the whole point was making his uncle understand that his ways are not working and it’s time for a change
What is the ghost?
Arctic Wolf a name given to Jin after the people of Tsushima believed all the samurai are dead. Jin doesn’t fight with the same code and honour he once did but instead like a demon, so Yuna gave the people something to believe in.
I remember thinking Ryuzo was a traitor piece of shit, hating him, and relishing in the fact that you finally killed him. But looking back at it, "And then he'll send us to die" was completely accurate. The events later on in the story show clearly that Lord Shimura cares more about honor and following his code than protecting the lives of his men and his people. It makes you question how the first battle of the game went down. They all charged into a trap to die under Shimura's orders.

@@justoc1144 Yeah, I was just so used to using the water stance, decided to try it out ;]
these two fight scenes are the best, I mean the duels in this game, magnificent! The six ronins, a real challenge, and when jin embraced his identity I was like yes! I guess Japanese leaders didn't recognize back then that warfare can't always be won by charging on the enemy.
It wasn't how things were done in Japan for a long time. You get a similar kind of deal in the Clans in the Battletech universe. Combat becomes formalized and ritualized to minimize resources actually lost in combat and the over all "scale" of warfare. This is usually tied in to warrior honor codes of one flavor or another. Then when you find yourself in a situation the code doesn't provide for... you suddenly find yourself in the middle of white water rapids with a hole in your boat and no paddle.
It’s more like a legend being told than actual fact. Yes the Mongols did invade japan, yes the first to fight back were samurai of Tsushima, since it is an island which is in the middle of the Korean Peninsula and japan, but many of them weren’t as honor bound as you might think. In real feudal japan it was common for samurai to betray each other to benefit themselves or their land, and when there wasn’t a war with other countries they were fighting amongst themselves. Jin is actually closer to a real samurai than Shimura, as he shows that he will do anything to protect his home and he only wants to do what’s best for him (and in this case japan) although Jin does border the line of a Shinobi(ninja).
@@coleparz6964 Samurai were just like Knights. They were nobles who if they saw fit. Would betray and use each other like REAL people. And you are correct. JIN has a true noble and honorbound attitude. But as you said. He grazes on the side of a Shinobi.

1:16 They both raised their swords at the same time. Very cinematic.
yeah there are a lot of good moments like that in this
“My men are starving.” In literally every mongol camp I have raided I have seen meat hanging off the walls inside their tents. Couldn’t they have just eaten that? Also, the island is swarming with wild boar, why didn’t they try hunting that? I’ve hunted my share of them while free roaming. His motivation doesn’t make much sense, especially after the previous mission where he says the mongols feed them.
indeed
You’ve forgotten one important detail.
His men are starving.
Yeah, the thing is that in order to raid the mongol camps, he and his men would have well...raid them. Meaning that they have to fight and spill blood. But one doesn't simply fight, on a empty stomach. For hunting, once again they have to fight the creatures with what little energy they have. Of course, it doesn't mean they can't just hunt and solve their hunger problem, but Ryuzo was presented with several options, one of which was to be hired by the mongols. Seeing that they have control over the island, it seemed to him that it was the most safest way he could care for his men. And he doesn't trust Jin's uncle, as he had lead all the samurais to their deaths, so who to say he wouldn't do it to him and his men.
There is also the fact that it was meant to be a reason taken out of the story, not the game world. Yes, as you pointed out, there are resources that Jin the ghost can see, and maybe access. However, Ryuzo wasn't a player character, and thus couldn't get access to those resources. To him, it was all real life, and he was faced with a difficult choice. For us, the player, we see it as an amazing game that pays attention to a lot of things. So let just say that as "outsiders"/players, we can't exactly point out flaws in characters motivations as we can only see their world as a game.
you wanna know why they didn’t eat the horses?
horses are friends to people u monster
It’s probably bear meat or something, remember they are Mongolians
Jinn should have talked some sense into ruyzo that by saving his uncle he would reward all the food him and his men would ever need even though he still probably wouldn't listen

@@xLetalis That's a shame. Ghost has a ton of potential and a ridiculous amount of detail.
Maybe get into some detail stuff like you normally do @xLetalis? I bet if you talked about some of the hidden cultural details in the Inari shrines scattered around the map, or some of the neat details woven into the Mongols that could pick up some steam. Also avoids spoilers and some people are pretty sensitive about those. If those hit, the side tales have plenty of potential material, especially if you link back to the history, and perhaps more importantly the filmography of Akira Kurosawa. I honestly feel, that if there was a new game + feature there would be three options at this scene. Betray Yuna and have her executed renouncing the GHOST. Being diplomatic with the shogunate and having the title of GHOST officially recognized as like a special division, or betraying Lord Shimura and keeping the mantle of the GHOST. Would be a serious upgrade and lead to a better multi ending out come than either killing your Lord Shimura or sparing his LIFE.
william perry I had a similar thought. Like this could have been a major choice section of the story. When you scout the camp and see that the mongols are setting up for a massacre, you get two options, proceed to poison them(like the story leads you to do), or destroy their weapons and forces behind the gates and then slip back without anyone knowing. That way when Shimura and the samurai attack at dawn, the odds are tipped in their favor.
@@ScuMeMrBusDrvr sounds like a good idea but i take issue with the latter point. altho Jin behind enemy lines tipping things to the samurai favor is great it still has a level of underhandedness and deceit i guarantee his Uncle Shimura would disapprove of whether he was caught or not. it seems the choices u reccomend is publicly be the Ghost or silently be the Ghost which is still not upfront and confrontational as his Shimura would want. u have it framed as a public lie or hidden lie. both are still lies to the samurai code
Jin chose his people over hid uncle. Shimura never understood that.
shimua was full of honor and didn’t really know what was happening to his people, jin was right to betray the code and use tools to his advantage, when a war is this big and bad, you’ll need all the tool you’ll need, even if it means hate and betrayal
