Following the events of the Eternal Night, Spyro defeated Gaul though nearly loosing to the dark powers that he used to defeat him. The Mountain of Malefore collapsed around Spyro, Sparx and Cynder. Unable to escape, Spyro encases himself along with Sparx and Cynder in an amber crystal to protect against the collapsing mountain.
