If your workbench gets destroyed or you destroy it to replace it, they immediately respawn, so make sure you always have at least one in the area down! :P

Have you never been attacked by other monsters in that base?

Never tried to actually build a base around one for these for long term stays, only ever had a small house here for teleporting to. So didn’t stay long enough for monsters to come, but they would likely make short work of it.
