Wow Geo, that was like watching a 1960’s episode of Tarzan when he was wrestling a lion then an alligator after falling into a pit of quicksand on his way to rescue Jai from an angry tribe…too intense!
I appreciate your uploads. Theyre always a super positive and full of good information, even though I dont really invest in any shaving gear 😅 I dont need it, but I love your videos!
That was a Hardcore master shave. No nicks or weepers too with a Feather?! Blade was chattering more than you. Kudos bro. No baseplate challenge. You will get some viewage on this one.
Watched this last night, must have missed the bit about not trying at home. Tried with Edwin Jagger de89, without the base plate. Not disappointed. New level of concentration unlocked.
geofatboy Thanks so much for the video I really appreciate you sharing my tip! :) Those who want to get BBS can make a first pass without the base plate (just like in the video). in second pass XTG: Return the BASE PLATE back for a softer shave. and in third pass against the direction of growth: shave with BASE PLATE in the normal way as in the second pass. * The first pass requires caution: You can stretch the skin in the first pass just like shaving with a stright razor, it will give you a uniform and smooth surface and prevent cuts Good luck to everyone :)
I can see a definite advantage to using this technique, as you might not require a third pass. This would greatly reduce razor irritation. Perhaps a day might come where I have the nerve to give it a try. Thanks for the demonstration.
The shim method seemed to be cumbersome so I never bothered to try it out, loosening the handle was also tricky because at some point the cap started spinning while shaving. The barless method seems like an easy quick hack, I'll definitely going to try this method but only on the cheeks, I am still a beginner. Thanks for the pro tips!
You had me on the edge of my seat the entire time on the 1rst pass Geo. I was clinhing my teeth and praying you wouldn't turn your face into Frankenstein's monster. Thankfully, you made it through the 1rst pass OK. Glad you didn't get any reaper to steal your soul from a crimson flowing weeper.
Let's be honest... you could have done this shave dry with a months worth of growth. After all these shaving videos, you have trained your beard to release on command. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Looking at my adjustable at the max level of 6, it still doesn't compare to a razor with the bar removed. Going to have to give this a go with my old Edwin Yagger (it's a soft 'J', as in yogging).
Next you might try just holding the razor blade between your thumb and forefinger to eliminate the razor entirely. Better yet, maybe do some flint knapping and have a prehistoric shave 🤔😉😄
What kind of Eviln Genius tries this and with a feather blade, oh it’s the master of wet shaving Geo Fatboy. I was cringing the whole time waiting for the blood bath. But watching you shave is like watching Tiger Woods grip it and rip it. You always amazing me. Much love and respect brother.
Hey geofatboy, I'm Mayank from India 🇮🇳, i hope you're doing well and wish you and your family great health and wealth with lots of love. The way you shaved in this video is exactly how my father is been shaving all these years. He does one pass only with little clean up on little nooks and cranies but for the most part he shaves his face with safety razor without a safety bar, just blade and the top cap. When I first saw him doing that i thought okay it's not a big deal but now as I'm a Wetshaver and shaves myself and doing it for the past 6-7 years, when I see him now i can just feel how hard and dangerous it really is and he does it with no problem and with great ease. I never tried doing it nor i ever will. Because for me two passes with safety razor with safety bar with the grain and Across the grain on cheeks and against the grain on the neck gives me clean shave and comfortable shave with sometimes irritation on neck ( i don't know why) but it's all i need. Keep making these awesome videos. Thank u
I tried this again today, the 2nd time in 4 days. A 15C with a Feather Blade 4th use. No base plate for the first WTG pass, and no base plate for the 2nd XTG pass. I reattached the base plate then did the 3rd ATG pass. The shave was very good. Less irritation than normal (I have very sensitive skin), but I went with a super light touch (like I was only touching the shaving cream) and also riding the cap. I went very slowly and took great care. No weepers, cuts etc., and barely any redness. Apart from the fact that I feel quite nervous when I shave, I'm impressed.
I don't understand why anyone would want a razor to be aggressive and is something I would not try. My Feather AS-D2 with a Feather blade is more than aggressive for me even though I have tough beard growth. This suggestion really has me on the edge of my seat watching (and holding my breath) and was so glad when the safety bar was put back on (phew!!) Something I would definitely not try.
@@Pensi0nar Well I suppose it doesn't work with everyone or else we all would be shaving with one. I just like the razor as it is so well made and teamed with King C Gillette/ Gillette Silver Blue or Feather blade(s) serves me well.😀
If the top cap doesn't have blade guides in the corners I'd never try this as the blade could possibly twist with pressure applied. BUT, the wizard of wet shaving, Geofatboy is up to the challenge. Glad that first pass went off without an issue, I was slightly concerned but relieved afterwards. Good job and nice shave bro, you'll never see me do this but it was awesome to see you do it. Stay safe, see ya next time. Enjoy!
I WOULD NEVER, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Well as others have said, Geo apparently lives his life...on the edge, literally!!!! Man, man. You're a brave one! If I wanted more aggression, I'd just get a razor that has different plate options (like the Rockwell 6C / 6S, or the Razorock Game Changer) or a razor that has adjustability (like the Gillette Fatboy or Rex Ambassador).
That hurt just watching. You need a small print warning like in commercial that say “Professional driver, closed course”. Like “Professional shaver, face of steel, do not attempt”. At least you did not combine that with your only shaving with water shave from awhile back.
Just tried this on my face (although l am a head shaver). Used a merkur top cap, parker barberpoke handle with a new derby extra blade and 8 de blade shims to make a base plate to stop the blade chatter, it was ok on the cheeks and jawline but a bit dicey on the lower neck and top lip. Had a few nicks but definitely would try again.👍👍😉
I tried this yesterday. A 15C with a Feather Blade 3rd use. No base plate for the first WTG pass, and no base plate for the 2nd XTG pass. I did not complete the 2nd pass (about 80% done) then I reattached the base plate for finishing the 2nd, and then did the 3rd ATG pass with base plate on. The shave was very good. Less irritation than normal (I have very sensitive skin), but I went with a super light touch (like I was only trying to remove the shaving cream) and also riding the cap. I went very slowly and took great care. A couple of very small weepers. But overall I was happy with the shave and will be trying it again. I went slower than Geo, and also had the razor with the cap much closer to the skin.
you don't suggest this and I shave like this without the safety bar from 15 years ago 😂 , also I don't use shaving cream and shaving soap , just water , alsoooo , I go straight to the against the grain from the beginning !
@@robwalsh1322 well I always shave in the shower before taking the shower ! shaving like this will make your skin super dry specially after shower when you wash your face with soap and conditioner , so for that matter I use afew drips of coconut oil when I got out and dried my skin as my after shave !
Well, I went ahead and gave the barless 15C tonight for the first pass WTG. I went very slow and using really short strokes and was ok... no nicks or cuts(I used a Gillette Silver Blue razor for it). I would still side with Geo and say don't try it unless you're very slow and careful or have some experience with a shavette or straight razor. It's definitely a 10/10 for aggression.
Geo, would you mind sharing your razor grip technique? I can't tell if you are flexing your wrists or if you are holding the razor as firmly as possible. Thanks.

I always shave without the Safety Bar (Bar-less) and I shave all 4 or 3 passes like this, I can't shave with the Safety Bar; it's like I'm not shaving at all. For years I shaved - not just my face, but everywhere that needs shaving (and I am Super Skinny) - without any safety bar, and unfortunately I never even had (couldn't have) a Standard Safety Razor, just some Cheap Plastic Handle "Nacet". I even used to break a Blade in half and use it without any Safety Bar. Of course, it is not a safe and proper method at all - as everyone/anyone knows - and certainly, It is a dangerous one, and it is not doable and practical for everyone, so no one should try this method and this kind of practice without having years of traditional shaving practice experience (with a Straight Razor, Shavette or at least Safety Razor) behind them. Anyway ... It is the first time I hear someone else is Shaving Bar-less (without the Safety Bar).
Geo is great. I can hear the chatter, but no pore weepers. I bet a thin diy base plate would stop that. Maybe something like trimming 1/8- 1/4" off the blade edges of an old blade or two would provide enough support to stop the chapper, but still be super exposed and barless. I think I will experiment with some shims now, and see how they do barless. You can always use a milder blade, just past the tugging limit; and really reduce chances of nicks
This has me curious and I'm going to have to try this. I have a Stirling razor with the Hyper Aggressive (HA) plate. Much more aggressive than the Muhle R41. It shaves as closes as a straight. And although it has a safety bar, it has significant blade exposure.
