  • Welcome to this York Travel Vlog. Our family decided to visit this amazing medieval city while we were in England.
York was the absolute best. The only thing that could have made it any better at all was if it had been warmer. It was just above freezing which made us all so tired and sore.
From Romulus' first train ride, he is obsessed with trains, to exploring the Shambles and the Shambles market this day was one of my favorite in England so far!
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to explore cities I had only dreamed of a few years ago! Totally mind-blowing!

York is lovely in the summer, people sit by the river and eat lunches and all the bars and resturants on the river put out chairs and tables out. Definitely worth revisiting! While there in the summer its also only a short train ride from Scarborough, one of England's oldest seaside towns and a fun place to visit (especially with kids!). Definitely something you could make a fun weekend/few days out of to see more of North Yorkshire

Yes! This sounds amazing! We are headed to Spain in two weeks but we plan to visit England often! We love it here, and we have to visit York again, Scarborough sounds lovely too!

I am a regular visitor to York as I live in Hessle near Hull. Best to use the trains I think. You really need to see the National Railway Museum near the railway station. It's great. For future travel around the UK, get a Family Rail Pass. £30 for a whole year and discounts fares by 30%. Money back from just one journeys savings. Similar passes are available for the whole EU too.

That must be the shop in The Shambles I was in - about thirty years ago. I remember seeing the figurine of a Knight on horseback, on a plinth of solid oak, in all about 10 inches in diameter and 9 inches tall. It was exquisite and so finely finished in such vivid colours. Price ? £10,000 - 30 years ago ! But the quality of the work was plain to see.
I should go back there and this time treat myself. It`s only an hours` drive away from where I live. But driving for an hour would be the easy part. Parting with probably about £12,000 would be rather more difficult to cope with.
I`ll have to finds its website, which shouldn`t be too difficult. There can`t be that many shops like that in The Shambles.

History fascinates me, even though I find it difficult. More difficult to follow than maths ( I`m teaching myself a degree in maths ).The trouble with history is that it has no rules.
But there are few finer places to be than in Europe if one`s love is for history.
It is where, for good or ill, the modern world was born. In particular here, with the Industrial Revolution - and those Luddites who objected to it. Luddite these days is regarded here in England as a `thing not to be,` an insult to be called one. But the Luddites` only wish was to preserve their means of earning a living - whilst the machine that tired not an worked at a hundred times the speed of any one person was in ascendance.
A controversial and quite bizarre result of the coming of the Luddites was capital punishment for any worker / grafter ( `Luddite` ) who would sabotage the working of the machine. So then a person may be put to death for damaging a machine, to now where no person may be lawfully put to death for damaging ( or killing ) a human being.
If someone asked me if a similar set of circumstances existed in the UK today, I`d say it`s a fair question. It is not singular to the UK.
Sorry for the digression. York`s good.
If I have mis-spelt some words you will forgive me. My eyesight is not as good as it once was.
