Just an FYI, the F-35 uses a variable frequency radar that won't trigger RWR. There's not a single aircraft that can detect being painted by their radar, which is why F-35 pilots claim Red Flag was like clubbing baby seals
Why are these information available to the public? If the enemies know this what you think they gonna do???
Every AESA radar uses frequency hopping. Nothing special about the F-35 there. F-15/16/18/22 can do the same as well.
Yes! That tech was first used on the F22, F35 has an updated version. I think it is still fun to simulate that the enemy has some way to detect the radar emission anyway.
So why were they clubbed by F-16 at red flag? F-22 also was won against in excercises, the Eurofighter, Rafale and even an A-10 had a nibble.
@@Gunni1972 Because that wasn't at Red Flag. The famous "F-35 can't dogfight against F-16" meme was a pre-production F-35 with incomplete flight-control and mission systems software and incomplete application of radar-absorbent coatings in what was basically an initial capabilities test to create a performance baseline. Secondly, just because it's reported in the media that a particular aircraft came out on top or not during a particular engagement is not particularly relevant. All mock engagements are setup with a learning purpose, and the US military (not just the USAF) particularly likes to deliberately place superior units and weapons systems at a disadvantage during head-to-head exercises, under the belief that you learn more when you lose when the odds are stacked against you than when you win because you have the advantage. The proof of capability is in the purchasing pudding: When given the opportunity of purchasing F-35, Eurofighter, Rafale, Gripen, F-16, F-18, or anything else, what are countries preferring to buy if they can get it?
Great work Cap! The sidekick gives F35 the option to use 2 fox 2 missiles or radar seeking missiles in addition to the standard 4 radar guided missile load out. There is a low visibility configuration of the F35 where it has externally mounted aim9x on 2 angled pylons, that make it more of a low observable aircraft. It is less observable than murder spec but more easily detected than stealth configuration. That would be interesting to see as well!
Yup. Alot of people believe stealths operate in full stealth configuration all the time but the reality is, they don't. When full stealth isn't needed anymore those hardpoints get mounted for extra munitions. If the f35 gets configured for beast mode it can actually carry MORE than an f18. If I remember right, it has a max load of 22,000lbs. The f18 has a max of 18,000lbs
@@jamesmaddison4546 when stealth configuration isnt needed, they'll just use 4th gen jets cuz they're cheaper. the stealth would probably be elsewhere doing other stealth missions
@@paulvenables2628 the Royal Air Force would still have eurofighters
F-35 can't carry fox 2 missiles internally.
@@Daniel-yh9dz first of all im pretty sure f35s can carry aim 9xs internally, we saw a video from the us defense department that shows the f35 shooting a very high off-boresight aim 9x from inside its weapon bay.
Always a good morning when you have a new video out. Thank you for pushing through the coughing and giving us the entertainment we crave GR, your all tops in my book. Very nice flying today by everyone, Thanks for the time.
Love the updated video. It's worth again noting that this scenario says less about the aircraft and more about the absolute unpredictability of mountain combat. Realistically, pushing your adversary down into the mountains is victory enough under most circumstances, no need to impatiently fly your F-22 in there like a maniac to get em. Though I get that's the exciting part so I'm cool. 👍
Cool video. Proof that tactics and pilot skill are still very important with terrain like this.
in functionality you can't beat the F 22 and the F 35. but dang the SU 57 and the J 20 look damn awesome. i really liked the look of the competition fighter to the F 22 also
The YF23 is a very cool looking plane!

I know this F-35 feature isn't in the game but with EOTS, the F-35 wouldn't need to drop down at all. It would simply scan from on high and either takes shots with its missiles or vector in shots from other allies.
Really liking these new mods updates Cap.
Really fun dogfights, the different qualities of each pair of jets brought out the best in the pilots on both sides.
Great entertainment! Thanks, guys.
Nice! All this tech, and it all comes down to fighting in the mud...
Good morning Capp and the "boy's" I hope your starting to feel better!
Man the F-35 really needs its EOTS system. Is there any way to simulate it even with a drop in IRIST module from the SU-27? It would drastically under perform in detection and track capabilities but at least it would be there to use.
I really enjoy the way you address the "valued viewers"
glad your sounding better Cap
Wow, I assume they have been fixed. I can't wait to watch the whole video!!
Keep doing the good fight guys!
My bet is the Americans
Would be interesting to see this scenario with the F-35 with Aim-9X on the wing. Sure, RCS goes up but in this scenario that might not be huge issue. And take it for what its worth, but at a seminar in Norway many years ago, which I attended, then F-35 program manager Tom Burbage stated that the Aim-9X with the stealthy pylons had a 'relatively low' RCS.
The rcs doesn't mean it goes up sense thats the normal loadout that it uses, 4 aim 120 and 2 aim 9x sidewinders
I've spent some time in Ushuaia.... Without question, one of my most favorite cities that I visited while deployed on a warship.
Another excellent Saturday morning. I am of course a USA homer and biased AF...but the Felon and M Dragon are really starting to grow on me. Especially the Felon. Just like I am an Apache guy and the new Black Shark module has me in turmoil. How can something so sexy and so strong not be ours? lol For all their problems, the Russians do build 'em pretty. The new Tu-22M3M Backfire is probably my favorite plane. So strong. Has ED provided you with the new Blackshark mod? I seen Growling Sidewinder has it and a few others, including some dude named "Wags" (he seems to be in tight with ED and always seems to know the most about things. Strange)
Dude I’m a USA 🇺🇸 fan and I love the F-22 but for some reason I kinda like the mig 29 i mean F-22 number one always but I think the mig could be my 3 favorite A-10 in second
I could watch these dogfights all day. I would like to see 2 F-22s vs 2 F-35s. I am guessing it would show just how dominant the F-22 is but who knows.
Yall are the best. Get well soon
RCS is not a static figure, it changes with the aircraft facing and the fixed number is a theoretical best case scenario. Does the SU57 have its multiple different band radars modelled?
Can confirm in round 4, flew to bullseye then went radar cold, flew west and north to try and get behind them. Once I came back around, went radar on, and was painting down, wasnt looking high!
The F35 can carry 4 fox 3 and 2 fox 2 in stealth config or alternatively 6 fox 3
Yea idk why they say it couldnt
Unfortunately, no. Heaters can be carried internally.. yet. In reality, close range weapons aren't a priority for the F-35.. It would be a HUGE pilot error to enter heater range.
@@markever234 in this situation it would be a priority because they are flying to a mountain range where BVR isn’t possible unless they do dumb stuff
@@markever234 The F35 can carry the ASRAAM and IRIS-T internally. The reason for the confusion is that the AIM-9X is a rail-launched missile; its ignition system doesn't support being dumped and self igniting, hence it has to expose its head at least (like on the Raptor and the J20) to acquire a target then ignite on the rail and slide off.
A redesign for lock-on-after-launch capabilities was in the works, but given that the entirely superior ASRAAM and IRIS-T can do the job better the US hasn't seen need to develop the capability for the AIM 9X in order to save cost of development, production, and operation.
All this to say, it can carry a full AA configuration internally. It can't carry more than four missiles yet though, that's coming in Block 4 and at that point a 3-3 or 4-2 stealth AA config is borderline air superiority given how the F35 operates.
sick fight ;P
The F-35 is designed to carry Aim 9x heatseeking missiles, why are you claiming it isn't? That's quite literally plastered all over its brochure with the ability to shoot its 9X anywhere the pilot looks, even directly above, below, or behind them.
Yea idk wtf that was about because he would’ve vaporized the su57 in that second round
They dont carry them internally... yet. Cap wanted a "clean" F-35 for maximum stealth.
@@markever234 an independent study was done of the stealth performance of the F-35, and it was found that adding Sidewinders on the wingtip rails doesn't significantly increase radar return from the frontal aspect.

Can we do a WW3 scenario where you have a French, British, and American carrier battle group vs and Chinese and Russian one? Or will that be too big? I haven't seen you use the French carrier group in a while and wonder how they would do. Also, another great vid guys, loving the commitment to realism.
Great map. Southern Argentina /Chile is stunning and the map is very well made
You know, maybe you could just toss the jet models into Blender or something else with a lighting simulator, turn the jets high-reflective black and the light source white, then view the craft at various angles from the center of the light source to see where the reflections are.
Stealth should show nothing from most angles, while non-stealth should have some kind of reflection.
The observability profile wouldn't be from a particular cross-section, but calculated from every angle, and thus would require lots of classified calculus to figure. OR you could just spin the camera around the model for a minute at 60FPS checking basically every angle, and find the ratio of reflected-to-not on the surfaces.
I will only accept debunks in the form of videos doing exactly what I said in this comment.
Hey, Cap, FYI, Raptors have sidewinders on trapeze launchers in their sides.

You know f22 spotted by su35 in syria and photographed in 2018 right?
@@alekosalekadis6095 🤦♂️ don't need to be dude. It's widely documented ever since India put Russia on blast in 2017, they even published the analysis their own engineers did, go look it up. Also, pretty much everyone has misinterpreted what Russia actually said regarding the su57. Rogozin actually said stealth-like features. Note the keyword. It isn't actually a 5th gen. It's engines are the unreliable su35 ones and so is its electronics package. That package also emits a ton of radiation from all the sensors for missile detection making it incredibly vulnerable to anti radiation missiles. Also look at the underside of the su57 and compare it to an f15 or f14. You'll see exposed engines, no internal weapons bay, and so on. What looks like an internal bay actually are just doors put there to give the appearance, and the size of it is too small. Every missile etc Russia has for its fighters is too big for that size bay, meaning everything has to be mounted on hardpoints therefore increasing the rcs drastically. A clean 57, meaning nothing attached, has an rcs 1.8 times the size of an f18. But once munitions are attached its almost 8 times bigger, compared to an f35 it's 1000 times. Why? Cause the 57 has no ram coating at all, it has alot of completely flat surfaces that reflect back alot of the signal. The engines have NO i.r reduction measures either.
All the 57 is is a cool looking airframe that's 4th 4.5th gen. Why do you think they started working on the checkmate when the 57 is nowhere near ready? Because it's a failed program, they're sole development partner backed out, and since then all foreign sales orders have been canceled. Noone wants it.
I hope you don't think I'm some hardcore anti Russian blahblah. I don't like what their government does, but that doesn't mean I can't like their aircraft. Some they've made in the past were freaking incredible.
As for the f22, what's your point exactly? A photo? Uhh....you do know stealth doesn't mean invisible right?
I'm from England but live in the US as a cyber contractor, theres an air force 10 miles away from me that flies the f22. I see them all the time and have tons of photos of them. I've no clue what you're getting at at all...

Awesome job on the tech. Lesson is you can't fix stupid.
0.0001m2? That's 1/10th of a millimeter squared, about the size of a small grain of sand or a fat human hair, and it can be detected by radar at up to 18NM?
This strikes me as implausible. What am I missing?
those are best case scenario measurements under laboratory conditions. Its possible, but only if the F22 was being scanned from a particular angle against a particular radar frequency after having its RAM freshly re-applied.
Any number of things could massively degrade that number such as, exposure to the elements, the wrong angle facing the enemy or the enemy using a long wavelength radar.
honestly its like bragging about how a tank has 2000mm of protection, but only on the turret cheeks.
sorry cap i have asked this question multiple times and you have answered if this is getting annoying just tell me and I will stop asking but do you have an updated release date for these flight models and custom made weapons because if you release them I think it will be huge improvement for the average dcs player if you release them. the GR versions of the aircraft mods will not be released to the public, however, the modded weapons will hopefully be released publicly once all the tweaks and logistics are figured out, so no official release date on the weapons just yet
If the only thing the Drangon and Felon can do is play down in the valleys then the US should just go up high and fire down into the mountains. The stealth doesnt just help with a much smaller radar sig. but helps hide from missle lock as well.
It is amazing how the F-22 can be so old and still the most stealth fighter on the planet. Except for creating these scenarios nothing in the air can defeat it in BVR combat. Imagine what the US NGAD fighter is going to be like. Ultimate fighter air superiority.

Is it possible to notch an AESA radar when it uses variable frequencies?
It's not possible to notch a modern pulse doppler RADAR - real time RADAR return data processing has changed the game. The backend system can discard ground clutter and genuinely static objects easily. So the old analogue processing ways of discarding all returns unless they are increasing or decreasing in gain (clutter reduction) are long gone (which is how notching worked) - you couldn't notch Sea Harrier's superb Blue Vixen RADAR 27 years ago - the best DSP return processing of its day in a fighter sized RADAR.
@@LondonSteveLee Thank you for that comprehensive answer. 🙏🏻
Their tactic is to notch an AESA radar?
I think you need to redo this and give the f35 aim9xs since it can carry them internally and it would’ve allowed for two likely kills here which basically would’ve equated to no wins for the su57 and j20
Last I saw, it couldn't. It used a different launch/ejection rail from the AIM-120s.

I have seen radar absorbing grills fitted to the SU57 intakes now, but I guess until Russia makes another claim about it there is nothing to go off. I have seen 0.1m in recent articles. Still pretty large compared to F35. Covering the compressors will help quite a lot. Would be nice if a NATO nation would say at what range they can detect it, like India did with J20. I can't believe that last J20 IR shot, I thought it was wasted when it came of the rail!
J-20 has retractable Luneburg lens, no wonder Indians can detect it during peace time. Indians must be exhilarated.
SIM REQUEST : Indian SU-30MKI versus Communist China's J-20. Given the increased tension between these two powers, it might be interesting to see the Indian advanced Flanker and munitions take on the PRC's stealthy Fifth-Gen fighter. Both regional powers have claimed significant capabilities for their premium air combat platforms. DCS would allow for an idealized environment to test some of those platform claims...😉
I think India would rather rely on their Dassault Rafale jets. Because of their superior electronic warfare capabilities.
@@andrejlykov6408 I'm sure they would, but the 36 transferred Dassault Rafale will constitute only a small fraction of the Indian Air Force's fighter force and the Indian Navy has yet to award it's contract to Rafale (though they will). Besides the SU-30MKI is still the services primary air combat platform with 200+ deployed across Indian territory. The Rafale are far more likely to be reserved for defense against Pakistan (a Communist Chinese associate) than employed for direct action in a Sino-Indian LAC tussle. After all, Pakistan's F-16 fleet is why the Rafale was acquired in the first place and it's unclear if the InAF could support the Rafale from its more austere airfields near the LAC.
Are the Su-57's L band RADARS modelled in the Su-57? F-22 is much stealtier in X-band than L-band. Also the RCS of the Su-57 from the front would be closer to F-22 than indicated. That's according to Dr Carlo Kopp. Check out ausairpower Su-57 is the most visible from the sides but it depends on tactics.
After failing to get a lock above mach 1 on two Pakistani F-16s on their SU-30's nose and the Russian's inability to fix the problem - India decided there and then to drop out of SU-57 knowing Russian hardware is all impressive specs on paper and no real-world performance. The same afternoon sealed the fate of the IAF's R-77s as well - even tail-on well within parameters the missiles couldn't get a lock. The Pakistani F-16 were running back across the closest available border so there was no fancy flying - just throttle pinned and run away. As a consequence the IAF are replacing all in service R-77s with Israel's Derby. The Indians must be totally blown away with Rafale - a plane that actually delivers on all the promises in every area - reliable too. The Russian military aircraft industry may as well pack up - nobody's fooled any more.
@@LondonSteveLeeThere is no source for your claim. Some clickbaity articles on certain sites do not prove any Indian discomfort with Russian equipment.
Apart from that, there was never any plan by India to buy the Su 57. Instead there was a joint project by India and Russia known as the Sukhoi-HAL Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) to develop a stealth aircraft for the Indian Air Force based on the T-50 which is the internal name for the Su 57. The project ran parallel to the Su 57 project.

Whoa Capp... you swore loll
You guys all need some healthy time. Sounds like some sick folks beyond Cap. Get better everyone.
Hello Cap, can you tell the real RCS of the improved model of SU57M, because when I see the picture of production model on Google and when I try to compared with the prototype model of SU57, they are totally different and the airframe as well as the RAM coating is improved on the production model of SU57 compared to the prototype model T50 which is totally different. So the RCS would not be the same, right. So Cap, can you tell the RCS of the improved model of the SU57M, or can you atleast model the aircraft of the SU57 to calculate the real RCS of the improved model, right.
The prototypes don't even have ram. What you find online is a 2010 report of the forst t50 prototype. This video is bs.
Yup, not that hard once you have pictures of the aircraft.
It seems like the SU-57M hasn't been finalized yet, I guess they have to take cost into consideration now more than ever.
Getting the RCS down to -30dB(sqm), should be possible from the front quarter, but the rear and especially the side aspects would be SUPER expensive to get below 0dB(sqm).
The reason for this seems to be because of the circular engine protrusions and the exposed thrust vectoring mechanisms.
An even bigger danger (with respect to the FLIR capabilities of the F-35) is the lack of IR signature reduction technologies to cool its *very* exposed engines and the associated metallic components that are directly exposed to turbine outlet temperatures.
The F35 confuses me.... I thought its whole point was to be a decently stealthy close combat fighter?? But its not? So what is it good for?
I think that the simulation needs to include J20 ability to access a CHINESE knockoff of a tactical data link since most encounters will be in the South China Sea. In fact, Chinese have
AWACS as well as a ground base system, sea sensors and other assets (LF RADAR as well as UHF, X and S band radar systems).

I basically combined the F-15E and F-35 together and gave the J-20 the role of, being a quarterback aiding the J-16,15 and 10. Since it has the RCS of a Super hornet. @@hughmungus2760 he either got the info confused with the current Su-57 rcs which is comparable to a Hornet. Since the j-20 has an rcs of 0.05m^2 from the front iirc? Or He could also be talking about when it has reflective radar parts on (forgot what's that part called).
@@Darkaan-ex5vs theres a particular subset of people who genuinely believe that china could not produce a stealthy fighter despite spending hundreds of billions of dollars on it.
Are some people still watching it? Published 20 mins ago but the vid is 45 mins long😂
Wouldn't IRST/FLIR/TI see stealth air craft at greater ranges?
You wouldn't see the F22 or F35 on your RWRs so wouldn't know their azimuth.
I don't care if the J-20 is stealth or not for me there one design element of is that sticks out. To me the wings are too far back for good maneuverability. Even with the canards, and relaxed stability the wings should be closer to centerline.
Putting the flight control surfaces further away from the center of gravity is exactly what you want for maneuverability. If you remember back in physics, it's easier to turn a long door handle because the force is acting further away, the same case applies here. If you put them too close or far up you're going to need more deflection to maneuver and incure more drag, among other aerodynamic penalties.
Is the RCS info official or just from the game?
Nah it's front their mind. Those planes don't even exist in the game.
@@antoniohagopian213 There is information out there and although ball park there is enough you can gather to make it worth modeling. Australia did a fairly decent model of the J 20 but used " 4 mm Ferrite" as a coating which is a pretty nonsense comment. All the ingredients are milled to a precise size then mixed and blended and so forth. They were probably talking about Iron oxide and there is obviously more, but there is information scattered about in papers where similar geochemistry is used for say medical imaging. I got so far as to be 75 per cent confident China used a different process for a metallic oxide than calcining or sintering because reasons.
Presumably if the terrain is flat then its a slaughter for the low visibility jets?
I don't know
How about Su-57 vs. J-20?
Why does the f35 not have aim9xs?
It can only carry them externally.
@@voidtempering8700 maybe in dcs but irl it can carry internally and it would’ve allowed for two kills in this very test so seems like they need a redo
F22 has 0.3 m³ RCS, you need to fix your numbers
I have to admit - that SU-57 paint scheme is a typical Russian value-for-money strategy.
You should do your uss Enterprise against Russia.
NO AIM 260s?
Can we see 2025 7th fleet please 🙏🏾
J20 can carry 6 PL15 in its main bay plus the 2 PL10 in the side bays
You massively nerfed the F-35 by not giving it Aim-9x... and is datalink not programed into DCS? The F-35 and F-22 should be talking to eachother like mini-awacs.
The F-35 cannot carry heat seeking missiles yet.
@@voidtempering8700 the F-35 can carry them
@@Mystical922 Only externally, not in the bays.
@@voidtempering8700 it can carry 6 missiles or can carry up to 6 aim 9x but they would likely give it a 4-2 load out. External or internal it’s a matter of space not how the missile works
@@Mystical922 It cannot carry IR missiles internally because the F-35 weapons by lacks IR bays. Stealth jets need specific IR bays because IR missiles ignite during launch, unlike the AMRAAM.
If the J 20 doesn't dogfight also, what is it's point again?
some experts say the j20s purpose is to shoot down tankers and awacs
@@ferrous3262 but lol almost anything that flies can do that.
