Hope this helps reduce the guess work. The more corrections you do the easier it is. Grab some junk panels from a body shop and practice, practice, practice!!!
Glad to hear you say that it takes about 3/4 day to thoroughly wash, decontaminate, and prepare the vehicle for the correction. It takes me a full day sometimes, depending on how much bug & tar removal, and fallout decontamination using clay bar. It can be very time consuming. Thank you for sharing your experience. Recently, tried Lake Country green CCS pads, also their white pad in a few spots, 3D One, a Griots G9, for a Toyota Avalon with car wash swirls. Toyota clearcoats are very soft now days. That combination worked quite well.
Its an older video but going through your videos because I just found you. Have to say you're a huge help in getting my knowledge up to par and the detail shops around me are a joke compared to the lengths you go.
Yet another great helpful video Brian. I just bought the nano rotary attachment tool as everytime I see it in your videos I think "man I could use that". Thanks for the link and suggestion. Saves me $400+ from having to buy the Nano ibrid longneck. Always appreciate your help with these videos. Keep up the good work!
Hey brian would you say that a Black 2016 gmc sierra 1500 slt is on the softer side of clear? I keep hearing that it is. Im getting ready to do my truck as my first vehicle ever. Ive been getting knowledge and building my arsenal for the past 4 months. I detail boats so gelcoat is what im mostly practicing on. I did pickup some test panels off from a silver chrysler sebring to practice on. I have a griots g21mm 6inch boss for workin on boats. Alot of realestate on a 74ft boat so we need as big of a throw we can get. I picked up some 6inch pads from diy and oberk microfiber and foam and diys new purple foam backed wool. Im seeing that alot of people suggest the 5inch backing plate n pads for all the body lines so theres less stalling so I was going to get the boss 5inch backing plate and get 5inch pads. Do you think that 21mm will work good for my cutting stage or do you think its over kill? I am shopping around for some other polishers atm I think im going to get griots newer g13 3inch polisher and the g9 to finish my polishing with. I heard that when finishing or polishing with a lower orbit machine will produce less marring and easier finishing is this true? I grabbed some diy gold standard polish, oberk polish, and koch chemie yellow and purple compounds polishes n pads I just wanted a few things incase a certain system worked better on finicky clear. Any suggestions for the black gmc clear, polishers that I chose, and pads? I didnt know if I needed micro fiber, wool, or just foam pads. I appreciate any suggestions and your knowledge and thanks for all of the informative videos they help alot..
I’m polishing my f type r atm, I assume the black trim is same across all JLR products, I cant one step with ibrid in rotary like that, I get too much buffer trails. I have to use DA movement with white rupes pad and kamikaze ichiba - on my m3 f80, ibrid rotary finished perfect
Excellent and informative video 👍🏻I always appreciate your time and effort you put into the channel. You are very knowledgeable!!! It helps whenever I feel unsure or second guess myself 🤔I just go back and watch the videos that I need information on.The weather unfortunately on Long Island is getting cold❄️My car is in decent shape and I’m protected for the snow, salt😬Ice and sleet. I need a garage with a little heat.
How do you know the hardness of the clear coat? How do you know which cars are single stage and which are duel stage? Is there a list or do you have a knowledge of this from experience?
This is awesome !. Could you please recommend pads for long throw polishers ? Your go to cutting pad, med cut, and polishing pads. I really need help finding good pads that work with my shurhold 3500 with a 6in pad teamed up with Jescar correcting compound!
Any idea on the hardness of Ford paint? I have a brand new Black expedition that has a lot of fine swirls and scratches I am guessing from car wash. I was planning on using a light clay and 3D one with an orange pad on my da. Is that too aggressive for just removing some swirling and light scratches?
Brian, I have a 2013 White Maserati GranTurismo MC. What are your thoughts on the hardness of the clear coat on these models? About the same as the Rover? Thank you.
Great video sir, you took the question right out of my mind!! if I can pick at your's one more time, lol, what pad do you think cuts and polish and finishes better, Buff-n-Shine or Lake Country? I currently use LC. Amazing info that you share with us !!!
Nice video! Very informative! I have a 2015 BMW 428i Grand Coupe(White Metallic)...People say that most BMW’S have hard coats...I wanted to ask an Expert....You!...about this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks, I’m still a newbie and getting my 535 , also white metallic, ready for a complete polish and ceramic coating. Very hard to see the scratches too. Interesting, my black x3 came out pretty good, but not to a standard I’d want. Going to chase it more.
Hi Brian. I just wanted to share with you and your subscribers if you go to www.auto-triz/on-line store you'll find the polisher that attaches to the rotary cheaper at $120. They also sell a cable extender plus all the replacement pads and cones. I personally use a 1" 2" and 3" punches and make my own different size pads to save money but I have bought replacement cones for the tool because I like using them behind door handles and wheels for instance. Just thought I 'd share this to save people some money if they're interested in the tool. I know I like using mine along with the Rupes Nano polisher not only on vehicles but other jobs like my awnings, outdoor furniture and the list goes on........Love your videos.
I researched this subject a while back. "Ultimate Finish" Generic Paint Hardness Guide is a 5 page guide I found online and printed ( I keep it in my inspection folder ) It gives pad choices and compound selections for many vehicles and different years. Unfortunately I did not write the link and it's not on my printout, if I found it, I'm sure you can
Also if we can get a video about prewashes/tflrs/iron removers and using them in direct sunlight. That would be great. I am mobile in el paso tx. The sun is my enemy. I need a product that can remove tough grease and grime but wont stain if it dries.
Trying to think of what we used to do before asking a RUclips channel to choose all of our products. Oh, yea, I remember - we'd actually use various chemicals and evaluate their effect on our respective applications. Brian has reviewed a crapload of products. Watch the vids and see which may work for you. Then buy them, use 'em, gain some experience and eventually settle on a specific thing. That's just how it's done. Good luck.
@@felixf5211 I have watched his videos just wanted am opinion from someone with more experience than I. What's wrong with that? He hasn't touched on using those types of products in the sun.
One panel at a time. What I did when I was mobile. I also kept the next panel I was going to covered especially when correcting. Keeps the panel cool right up until I am ready for it. I used a damp Beach towel.
Hope this helps reduce the guess work. The more corrections you do the easier it is. Grab some junk panels from a body shop and practice, practice, practice!!!
You put me to sleep every night and have for a long time. You would think I would have seen every video. Somehow missed this one. Good stuff.
Truly one of the best professional detailers out there. You make it look so easy Brian👍👍👍
Thank you Anthony. I am no better than you guys will be with a bit of experience.

Hope it helps a bit Sean.
me too.
That halogen lamp is so good at showing swirls.
It is not very forgiving.
Like always awesome video and teaching a lot about the cars detailing I learning new stuff
great video, so I would be able to use a green pad and 3D1 for a honda soft coat as well?
Brian, what would you use instead of that cool small detail polisher ?

Thank you for the vid. I love the side by side comparison. 😎

Hello brain I have a question .. I have a modern steel metallic paint on my Honda Accord , is it hard clear coat or hard clear coat ? Thanks
Friday lunch. Laksa and B video. Win!!! Love the shirt too B. ❤️❤️
Cheer!
Ok Thank you. With out knowing my clear coat hardness is it safe for me to use Iron X decontamination. Thanks again.

Same here in Michigan. Couldn't get to a correction but decontaminated and protected for the coming winter
I hear you guys...I like the cooler weather. Hang in there until spring!!
How do you get to the roof on taller vehicles? Any tips?
I get a lot of mileage out of those green pads on a PC or 3401 type of tool.
Absolutely LOVE them.
They are fantastic!!!
great video as alway Brian... Can you tell me at a range of 1-10 how much cut has the microfiber finishing pad?
Great content. Hoping you will have a pad discussion on the different pad choices for forced rotation(gear driven) vs long throw, vs. short throw.
Absolutely! All polishers will be covered.
Really helpful video. Thanks Brian!
Keep up the great work!

That shop stool looks comfortable. Who makes it?
Great video as always I was just wondering what is your favorite microfiber towels for removing polish
Eagle Edgeless!
Excellent as always Brian, how do you know if a vehicle has hard or soft clear coat.
Thanks
Rob UK
If you are not sure...use a polish pad to try to remove swirls. Normally, on moderate clear...some type of microfiber pad would be needed.
Can you do a detailed video about finding if paint is hard or soft
looks awesome another great video again buddy 🍻🍻
Thanks brother!

Lake Country to cut....Buff and Shine to finish.👍
Could you use the uro fibre 50/50 on this type of paint?
Very helpful video. Which 9H/10H ceramic coating would you apply for this type of clear coat?
IGL Kenzo.
Have you ever tried Nasiol NL272? Would be cool if you could do some videos showing the hardness of these 9H coatings
2016 GMC Sierra in your experience how hard is this clear coat? Thank you
Moderate hardness to downright stubborn depending on year.
What kind of small polisher and pad was that?
Thanks for this video. I have some question about soft or hard clear coat. I suppose this vehicle brand is a soft clear coat, or not.
This is very soft clear...I will get to harder clear...stay tuned.
@@apexdetail85 thanks, it is possible make a moderate paint correction in a small car with ceramic coat in one day?

Moderate to hard clear coat indeed. A microfiber cut pad is chosen for this finish.

I am slowly putting together a list to make it easier for you guys.

Is a chart exist to compare the hardness of the clear ?

small sections on strong chemicals , regular a bit flood flash off with your pressure washer , and larger dilutions on chemicals in general

What really is the point with clearcoat this soft?
Well...it still needs to be corrected...and you need to choose a pad, sooo......
How do you know the hardness of the clearcoat/paint?
He uses a paint depth gauge
