Protip: the bottom of the volume control knob is also a tool for loosening or tightening that weird nut on the antenna connector. Sort of handy because they have a tendency to work themselves loose.
I felt sort of sorry for her, but I guess the little rulebreaker had it coming. 🤣

Whenever my UV-5R's power output drops below 4 watts, I show her this video and she perks right up again. She knows she could be next.
The assembly actually seems quite well engineered for a $24 radio. I can't complain about the functionality either
prolly cuz its mass produced so it has a great function for such a small price

Thank you for making this sacrifice so that I didn’t, for curiosity was beginning to get the best of me, and as a result my UV-5R has been hiding in the corner for weeks.
I aswell have succumb to the curious cat syndrome and was in search of relief for my UV-5R's sake of reassurance to a lasting life. 🤠

I am a "tool guy." I knew how this was going to go the moment I saw the kitchen knife. I'm not saying I'd have done any better, just that I'd have used $100 worth of tools to destroy the radio in basically the same way he did with $20 in tools... That's how you know you're a real "tool guy." :-)
It's not a kitchen knife. It's called a SPUDGER.
It came out of the kitchen drawer, it's used to put butter on toast, and my wife yelled at me for using it.. Sooo.... Its a kitchen knife.

The volume knob when removed has notches to tighten or losen the antenna nut....so if it comes lose in the styx one can tighten

They still make them up to 520. You just have to order them straight from China via Alibaba.
Bought mine of Amazon a few months ago and it goes up to 520

That's something for cars with modern ECUs.
Chairman Xi has a big red button on his desk that will beam a signal to all GM cars with OnStar, and they will instantly stop whatever they are doing.

Also the volume knob has a built in tool to remove the brass antenna socket washer.
Her cousins sat beside me and watched... My UV-5X and GM-5R wept in horror.
id have fun giving it a try to revive her , not sure about the trim adjustment and lcds , ive always had crap luck with lcds that work with pressure pads , and a moved trim original position but still i wouldnt say she dead yet . have you seen any debug or jtag like test point or headers inside cant really tell from that far ?
