Saddam Hussein built a mega-mansion right next to the ruins of Babylon. After the US invasion of Iraq it was temporarily used as an America military base but has remained vacant ever since they left. I got to check it out as well as explore what is left of ancient Babylon. Watch this video to see where Saddam Hussein used to go hippo mode, keep watching to see why I got kicked out.

@@TheWontonDon yeah we popped in there i only stayed threre for like a week total but we went a few times, and his vacation home in Salman Pak was amazing. but the nicest building i went in was his firsts wifes palace in eastern baghdad.

What was it like back then? I'd love to hear your stories.
@@nash0089 We had this Major that was a history buff that told us all about how Saddam was trying to rebuild it and showed us around almost like a tour of the area. When we came into the main entrance of the palace, there were these columns that went 30 feet up that were stripped down. They were covered in gold and looters got up to around 10 or 12 feet of it. I still have a brick I looted from the ancient grounds. Has cuneiform scribed into it. Probably 3000 years old.

Spent a few weeks there in 2004. There is also an amphitheater and smaller villa right on the river. That was our chow hall. The Polish ran the base. All that moved Ad Diwanayah beginning of 2005. USMC.

I was in Babylon during the invasion of Iraq in 03.. You could say I had an all access pass to tour that whole place freely. lol. Babylon was actually used as a headquarters by the US Marines 1st Mar Div. The palace was in better shape when we there and pool had water in it and was usable. Babylon itself was truly beautiful and always thought it was a place I would love to visit once again. I was hoping you had filmed the little amphiteatre that is there with a small lake. (its where i had set up camp) . Would have liked to see the condition its in now.
