I spent a night with the Marsh Arabs of Iraq who have lived in the marshlands of Mesopotamia for thousands of years. Their population dwindled after Saddam Hussein drained their wetlands in the 1990s because they didn’t support his regime but recently their communities have begun to recover, and one of them named Abu had invited me to spend the night with his family. All in all, this was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

These marshes is the place all of human civilization started. Holy shit what a dream come true. Even the first form of writing that we know about cuneiform started because of the reeds in these marshes. I'm so jealous lol
