    _______________
So the older you get - or the less flexible you are - maybe you can't quite rotate your body as much either on the way back or on the way through. Are there some mechanical things you could do to increase the rotation relative to where you are? Absolutely. But are you as a 75 year old guy who works out once a week going to rotate like a 25 year old kid who works out every day and has a chiropractor and a trainer with them all the time on the PGA tour? Probably not.
If you just want to play the best you can with what you have, here’s what I would do. Number one is I wouldn't focus as much on trying to get the rotation in the forward swing. I would focus on getting the rotation during the back swing.
There are some things I can do to pre-set more rotation in the backswing. The first is stance. I would want to use the closed stance line where your right foot is a little bit farther back because I want to focus on at least getting a full turn on the way back. Second is foot flare. If I want more turn going back, I want to have the foot turned - or flared - out because that will help me turn the most. Third I want to have the ball position more back than normal.
Part number two of this now is going to be how the club and swing direction work. With the two stations I demonstrate in this video, I'm going to preset everything we do based on trying to get the club working in a draw pattern. If we're going to give up some of the body rotation in the follow through, we're going to preset a swing direction that works more from the inside. It’s going to exit more to the right, going to be a little bit higher than normal and maybe even have a little bit more arm rotation than normal. All of that is to maximize what you guys have.
You must maximize turn going back and you must maximize extension on the way through. We want to make your swing direction more inside out. The slower your club head speed, the more your swing direction should be inside out to maximize getting the ball up in the air high enough so you can hit it far enough to effectively play the course and have fun.

Best video I've seen on this important topic. I've tried experimenting with this over the last few weeks but was keeping back foot squared. Also, was not playing ball back enough and ended up hitting behind the ball. Now it makes sense. Can't wait to try this out next time at the range. Thanks very much for an excellent video!

    Eric,
This video is great. I am only 62, but have lower back problems so this works well. I am hitting the ball more consistently and longer especially with my Driver. The only problem seems to be with more lofted irons where i hit it thin sometimes. Thanks, keep these senior videos coming and I think I will play better and better

Great advice. Took a lesson once from a pro who wanted me to swing like a tour pro. He told me all of the pros get a lot of turn back and through. I agreed that they did, but then informed him I wasn't a golf pro. This is what all of us aging golfers aspiring to get better or maintain a decent handicap need to hear. Otherwise we're just going to hurt ourselves and drop out of the game altogether.

You are spot on in what you are saying about senior golfers as I have been having ups and downs with my swing till I realised I was picking the club up and not doing a full shoulder turn, I always have my right foot back at address which helps me to create a full back swing as you have shown and when I do I surprise myself in how far my drive go's! For a young man like yourself, you have great knowledge of us older guy's, so I take my hat off to you Sir! I played on Saturday there and made a full of myself, yet today I played like a low handicapper only because I used my shoulders on the back swing! I am playing tomorrow, lets hope I do not forget yesterdays swing lol! Many thanks for your input!

great video, I also found with my bad back & hips shorting your stance also helps with the turn. Pretty much keep the same distance for all my shots. I know you think for the driver that's crazy, but believe me, I can get a better turn and most important, get through the ball and out to 1 o'clock for good straight drives. Works for me, I only hit my best drive 190 yds. Will never be able to take the club all the way back so straight beats distance in my case. Then I moved up one more tee, just so I can fully enjoy the game.

Eric, I want to thank you for this video. It has helped my golf game immensely. I’m a 71 year old golfer who has lost some range of motion due to lack of flexibility and an injury to my left(lead) foot. After practicing then applying you tips my last three scores have been 79,72,74. I’m hitting the ball farther and much more consistently. One adaptation I’ve made to avoid pain in my left foot during my follow through extension is to flare it out slightly. Maybe this will help some others with a similar problem. Thanks again for your help.

Great information. I am 60 years old and lately, I've found that I had lost some distance and accuracy. I went out yesterday after viewing this video and tried the stance, flaring the right foot and putting the ball slightly back in my stance, and it worked very well. Greater distance, more accuracy at target. All-in-all shot a very good round (79). Thanks for the tips keep them coming.

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for the video your explanation is precise and simple to understand .
I have been using this stance and swing for the last couple of months, for a person like myself, (58 yrs old), who has had both hips and left knee replaced this "swing for seniors" is invaluable. It has taken stress out of my lower back and hips and due to this golf is again enjoyable to play. I had a session on TrackMan the other day at the range, in general all aspects of my game had improved the only thing coach didn't like was the early extension so I have forwarded him the video.
Once again many thanks for your video.
    Cheers from Downunder.

Nicely presented. Have been using this setup for some years, as I am over 70; one thing that I would add, is to flair the front foot out a tad & it helps on the follow through..

I am 77 years young and have just seen your great video. However just today at the range I developed this same method of swing. With the stance closed a little I am able to make a full turn, also dipping a little down towards the ball with my left shoulder and I am achieving a slight push to the right causing a slight draw or as most of my shots were, hitting really straight shots. Great video and great advice. Also I maintain both arms close to the body on the back swing and through. Having had a lengthy break from golf I am really pleased with my emerging progress.and may it continue.I shall be going to your site on a regular basis and following your marvellous instructions. Thanks Eric.

Watched your video yesterday and tried it at the course today. I followed your advice, consciously moved my right foot back slightly and turned it out just a bit. The results were great. I found my drives consistently going 15-20 yards further and the crazy thing it made me aware of my follow through which somehow straightened out my slice. Every drive was down the center of the fairway. One small correction helped other aspects of the swing fall into place with gratifying results. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Eric! Definitely going to give this a shot. I have a physical disability and can't raise arms above my head very much. So rotation is everything for distance in my swing. My backswing typically only gets the shaft to vertical/just past vertical. I've been trying to work the ball left to right more rather than the typical cut or fade (I'm left handed). Thanks for the video!

I was once a big drawer of the golf ball but instructors tried to get me out of it by going more traditional. And I got away from a strong left hand grip but probably need to strengthen it a bit again. As one instructor once told me......golf is a game of consistent adjustments.

I am an oldie of 77 years.I haven,t played for some time now but visit the range once or twice a week to practice new things that I have seen on Utube videos.I have found that by withdrawing my trail foot and keeping my upper arms close to my body during the swing that I can make a full swing with good results.I also raise my left foot a little during the back swing and replace it to start my downswing. Also I have discovered how to "swing" the club through without trying to "hit at" the ball.I am still having some problems with my Driver but this is I am sure a mental thing and I hope to soon overcome this. Thanks for all your advice for Senior golfers it is much appreciated.Bob.

Hey, a great vid for seniors. You fully understand how to make it easier for seniors to enjoy playing golf. For me, your advice about changing the standard stance to one which suits seniors. also, your tip on adjusting expectations to what seniors can do, are appreciated. I have experimented with different stances and I feel it works. ( it still takes me 15 strokes or more for a par 5, but this time, I'm pain free, and enjoying it.) Domo arigato....

I’m 75 and reasonably flexible. I have always thought the follow through more important than the backswing. This video has changed my mind. Taking the trail foot back a bit has really opened up my swing and given me back some lost distance. I thought I would be pushing shots right but not so. I’m getting a much more solid strike and swinging like the old days! I feared pushing everything right but this has not happened. For me, a game changing video, thanks

Excellent instructions for saving your back and hips! I totally agree with these instructions from a physical therapist's point of view. I was instructed to use open stance after lumbar fusion, and tore my left gluteus medius and minimus muscles. Post hip repair, I adopted the closed stance to protect my back and forward hip. Now I am working on inside out swing, and can't wait to adopt early extension to gain loft and reduce my excess draw. By limiting excessive back extension and over rotation, I am also helping to reduce scoliosis. I like the entire package of instruction: It works great on driver and fairway; hopefully I can adopt the pattern to work with my irons.

Hi Eric, sorry, this may be a long winded post. I first saw this video when it came out, two years ago. I'm 65 now and I noticed a big problem with my swing is that instead of turning my hips on the backswing, i tended to bump them to the right (a sway away from the target). I focused on kicking in my left knee, straightening my right leg and making a better turn. It worked, but it was hard to do consistently and I had to think about it a lot. And then I remembered this video and dropped my right foot back, flared it out and wow, it was so much easier to make that hip turn, now. So now I'm whacking myself in the head saying, "Why the heck didn't I listen to Eric earlier??". Thanks Eric :)
