I still get ptsd flashbacks of that roster discourse whenever I see comments on Max’s vids discussing a possible MVC4 and so many people demanding the next be filled with nothing but X-Men and 90s characters, because screw newer Marvel, the MCU and newer Capcom games I guess.

It's hard to believe that people somehow overlooked the 2011 disasters, which were the primary reason why Ultimate had to be released separately (and caused further development to be halted). Those two characters, primarily Zero, without a doubt killed the hype for the game viewership wise. People cried about MorriDoom, but only 1 or maybe 2 people could play that high level, meanwhile at the end of UmVC3 half of the top 8's were Zero teams. I can't count the number of people I've talked to in the community at the time and sense that said when Zero came on stream they went AFK or just turned it off.
People who can play the MvC games well are actual wizards or alchemists to me. I bought this right around launch on PS3 and it broke my tiny, smooth brain trying to figure out 3v3 fighting. Traded it in and got MK9 a few weeks later. Much more my speed.
This made me realize we really need a dmcxdeadpool game I would love to see dante and Deadpool just vibing with each other while wolverine asking himself what the hell did I get myself In
That'd be a great way to bring back the era of Capcom developed Marvel games especially if we just went full MvC on these games. A successor to Mutant Apocalypse and War of the Gems.
