I don't think she was actually belly dancing, nor does it say she was belly dancing. She was just dancing and some of the moves had belly dance style. If you have ever been to a gothic club, you would see that the dancing is like this, very freeing and spontaneous. We dance however our moods dictate...this is sensual, raw and beautiful.
Fantastic costume and make-up. Most people's "vampire" costumes are unconvincing but in this video I feel as though i was looking at a real, other-worldly demon. However the dance itself doesn't seem satisfying, as though she was relying on her costume rather than her technique to enchant and mystify the audience. There were some parts I liked, such as the spinning and hip-shimmies, but the struts and kicks were just...well, filling in music segments.
I love that video, watched it 100 times and still LOVE IT! It's original and it's powerful, the dancer isn't afraid of aging herself with the make-up, respect. One of the best I have seen so far.

i'd love to have the wings/hand set up for Vampire Ball. I don't see anywhere in her description where she mentions anything about being a belly /tribal dancer. If you don't like this kind of thing you don't have to watch it. Life is simple that way. Have a good one and I love seeing how different (key word there... ) people express their creativity.
Its a shame that so many people are so restrictive in any type of profession. If you dance you're only allowed to dance type. If a person is a martial artist, they are only allowed to use one style of martial arts. Poetry, sports, its all the same. Referring to the dancing, I suppose so one has heard of freestyle. Personally, I think you did a great job. Working the Skinny Puppy!
Note I said "Experimental" not "Caberet". And No bellydance was not a form of illusion and hiding choreographic transitions. Infact the bellydance you see today is nothing like the original style. Most of what you see is completely modernized and Choreographed. There was no Choreography back then. You learned to dance by watching, listening, ant then dancing to the music. That is why I do Improv mostly.
This has a sort of mildly camp, deliciously overdramatic vibe that I am LOVING. I've been thinking of a modification of Isis wings that are exactly like that (ribs for individual fingers to emulate bat wings) for a while, so it was cool to see them in practice.
considering vampyres are beasts and use deception as theyre weapon youd be pretty mesmerised if one came up to you in a dark street and started prancing around the town like that to lure you away to feed off you :)
ignore everyone else.. you move to the music, your make up and costume is perfect and you moved your hips and stomach and even added your own styled Isis wings and i most definitely felt the emotion of this video... it was excellent.. the atmosphere for your scenery went with the story and the song was a very good choice

Look at traditional geisha dancing for example,it doesnt look they are dancing,but they do... + its not called Vampire - Real vampire- BELLYdance - Deva but Vampire - Real vampire - DANCE - Deva and I like it, costume,make up and dancing too :)
Actually to me this looked more like an experimental/gothic/dark fusion combo. Ferthermore gothic belly dance is about telling a story. The story here is about a Vampire. So yes this is belly dance. Also bellydance is not always delicate. It usually is however I do belly dance I very seldom are my dances "delicate" I usually have a very odd form. Also remember that not everyone can do certiam moves the same way as others.

The dance was cool enough for me and I do think there are some good bellydance moves. This is supposed to be fun and some people are really tough critics!! there were some parts of this video i really liked- mostly where there was more belly dancing mixed with actual mannerisms of a bat. However there were a LOT of blank parts. too much walking around. The costume, makeup, theatrics and mannerisms of a bat were great though.
Interesting. Not Cabaret or ATS style but as a Belly Dancer that doesn't fit the typical mold... keep doing what your doing as long as it makes you happy. We're all sisters in dance regardless of style.

Deva seems you have a nice technnique of bellydance. But remember if you bellydance in any style... Is the style (in the case gothic) that adapts to bellydance. Not bellydance adapting to the style. Bellydance more and attach the style to it. What I think your chroreography needed is just more steps of bellydance and bellydance attitude. Bellydance must be always delicate no matter what style it is. Best regards and keep it on!
Nothing personal,I just danse oriental dances,just us my grandmother did.Twenty years of traditional trainning,and respect of a strict tradition...(AND TRAINING)..I just judje it from an other point of view.Truly sorry....I see beneath the make up and the costumes....that is what I was taught...
