I come from the middle east and we used to drop a pod of cardamom in the tea pot when brewing it. Also in some areas you get coffee (Turkish style) with cardamom that has already been ground to a dusty constituency. Usually the variety used in tea is preferred to be a little more on the green side, while the coffee variety is usually the dried variety.
Cardamon is my favorite note. Btw, Memo’s Iberian Leather has a similar use of cardamon, however it’s more polarizing then African leather. In the designer realm I love Tom Ford’s cardamon in the Noir Extremes and Ombre leather EDP. JPG’s LMLP also has a great cardamon note upfront.
iberian leather is my favorite fragrance i’ve encountered. i was told it’s discontinued so if you enjoy it, might want to grab a bottle soon. i find the price of memo to be ridiculous but i feel like iberian leather is an exception because it’s so strong with only 1 spray and lasts 12+ hrs on skin for me. lasts months on clothes. i got lucky and found a bottle for 170$
Love Enclave. Stunning, well done. Another cardamom fragrance I really enjoy is Soul Batik by Moresque. Has that warm spice that is inviting someone to get closer to you rather than announcing to the whole room you are there.
I’ve been obsessed with xerjoff starlight lately. Sucks that the weather is warming up because I want to keep wearing it 😢 but that’s definitely a great cardamom fragrance, best I’ve smelled so far
Cardamom (called Elaichi in India) is a widely and commonly used spice in tea, biryani, pulav and sweets (especially the ones made as an offering to our deities called prasad). It adds a sophisticated layer of taste to the dish and it's also a great antioxidant. Love Sauvage Elixir as it captures the exact essence of cardamom
I’ve been waiting for this exact video topic for years. Thank you JC for being different than every other channel. Most of these I haven’t tried yet. I’m intrigued to get my nose on them. I really enjoyed the description of what and where cardamom comes from. Hopefully you will do more notes like patchouli, maybe vetiver, labdanum etc. I find these types of videos are not only educational but inspiring as well. Thanks again and peace ✌🏻
Very beautiful educational video Justin. I love the note of cardamom. Honorable mentions that were not in your video include Xerjoff Ivory Route, Amouage Boundless and in the designer category, the best realistic cardamom fragrance is Costume National Homme Parfum. Such a high quality and edgy designer scent. Top notch
3 of my favourite cardamom fragrances featured here are: African Leather, La Nuit De L'Homme Bleu Electrique, and Layton But my sexiest cardamom fragrance is Le Male Le Parfum, wow this one gets me compliments every time I wear this, literally every time from complete strangers. Its amazing
I blindnly bought LNDL at the time but it smells way too powdery off my skin. I really love that beautiful opening but cannot stand the base. However when someone ask me what is the sexiest fragrance for men i always say without thinking: Dior Homme Intense. Classy, complex and easy to wear at the same time, consistently evolving on the skin hour after hour.
Justin, I really gotta thank you for using Fragrance Bros' photograph on 0:05. I totally forgot about his channel and I feel bad at myself for that 😔. It's been years since I last watched his content. The RUclips algorithm really isn't what it used to be. We don't get to see our favorites so often any longer. Thanks again.
Great list Cope! I love that you included African Leather from Memo. It is a masterpiece. For me the leather is not that noticeable. And the Gris Charnel Extrait was already on my radar but now I think I will pull the trigger and buy it😂
Gris Charnel EDP/Extrait, Gisada Ambassador/Intense, Penhaligons Blazing Mr. Sam, and Memo African Leather are all loves for me. I can’t get enough of these fragrances and cardamom in general. I may be in the minority here, but Desir Toxic didn’t work for me. I like it, but I don’t love it. I had a bottle and sold it. I am finding that cannabis doesn’t work for me. Great content as usual. I am looking forward to your battle with Equality Fragrance. 😁🙏🏿🙏🏿✊🏿
Love how Justin is a historian and teacher, student of the fragrance. I need to pull out my La Nuits. I've left designer for niche so that stuff is water to me now.
I still have the original formula 6.7 vial from 2010s and I only spray for occasions even when I know it loses life after 5 years. I can’t part with it knowing they reformulated.
My go to signature for a couple years now has been Dolce & Gabanna The One. Dark, spicy, tobacco notes but definitely some elegant sweetness there too. Just looked it up, cardamom right in the heart notes, so it makes sense!
African leather is my favorite fragrance so far. Yes the leather isn’t as prominent as you’d think but the cumin and saffron are so dope. My gf came thru clutch on our anniversary and got me a bottle
Awesome video and cumin is one of those scents that you have to be open minded with I have Rasasi Tasmeen and when I first tried it I thought I can't wear this outside or to work people will think I'm not wearing deodorant lol but after repeated wears at home and asking do I smell like I need a shower and being told that I actually smell nice I wore it to work and was complimented so I can say that cumin and oud have been my thing lately in middle eastern fragrances but I'm also 57 so for the younger guys give it a chance you might be pleasantly surprised
Yeah, I had a similar journey with cumin. At first sniff I freaked out, thought no way I could wear this in public - but then after awhile I really came around.
@@James7995 I am lucky that I never got the egg smell from the Bvlgari Aqva line it's wild how everyone has a different sense of smell lol I don't like the smell of beef liver being cooked but I'll eat it all up afterwards
I see a brother tank printer in the background. I know its not the best printer, but its the most sensible purchase. Therefore I am happy to declare my appreciation for your honesty and intellect. Opinion accepted
African Leather, oh how I love thee!!! I shied away from it for too long, thinking it was going to be leather heavy. Thankfully, I was sent a free sample, IMMEDIATELY bought a full bottle the moment I smelled it. So FN good!
Cardamom could also be confused with cinnamon, not only because they're a little bit similar, but they're often used together in both food and fragrances. Even if not listed, I can almost always smell both when I smell one. La Nuit for example doesn't list cinnamon, but it's very cinnimalic smelling to me, it almost smells the way that this bakery next to a grocery store I worked at used to smell when I'd walk past it.
I just started collecting and wearing fragrances again and the first scent that i fell in love with was La Nuit De L’homme. Now i know i love cardamom!
Currently flying through a sample of intoxicated, it is indeed very intoxicating, the dryness it has reminds me of lunar rocks for some reason, like the stones of the moon or a planetoid, B-612 couldve been a great name for this too imo hehe
Great Video! Love cardamom in food and coffee, and in some fragrances it does magic. My absolute favorite cardamom perfume is Guerlain's L'homme Ideal Intense. Very tastefully blended. Declaration EDP is another, I agree it is the best of the series, my next to get designer. Intoxicated seems interesting though I didn't like A men that much. Love African Leather, the best of Memo. But to my nose leather is very pronounced. It is beast mode, but if worn correctly very elegant. Enclave is nice but a bit too minty for me. Have to give it a full wear. Rima XI, Gris Charnel & Argentium seems interesting.
Thanks for this kind of video. It's awesome to have notes explained and how different perfumes use it. Cardamom became my favorite note when I first smelled it in YSL La Nuit but these days I'm looking for a heavier cardamon fragrance to replace the YSL. Before cardamon, I really liked Rosemary with sage fragrances and that's how I got into pefume. I love fresh scents that don't try to smell like metal or water. I love spicy cardamon. You keep me interested in Cartier 😂
Nice video Justin, enjoyed watching it. Wish there were more Designers in the perfume world using cardamom. Niche perfume prices in Pacific countries is dear as poison. 😂
I really enjoyed this video. Great work, JC. You have nudged me ever closer to BDK Gris Charnel Extrait. It might be just what I'm looking for. I'm gonna get my nose on this one. -- CJ --
Cardamom? What first pops to my mind, after La Nuit de L'homme, is some offerings in D&G The One line: The One EDT, The One EDP and The One Royal Night (I prefer the EDP).
Cardamon is one of my all-time favorite notes. The majority of my (baby) collection probably has cardamon in it 😂. I have tried African Leather... And I would love to have it for myself. Way more wearable than I thought it would be.

I think people are confusing Amouage Search with Amouage Enclave. Search has a fantastic citrus smell, but then you are hit with that ash smell which I think is the Hojari Frankincense. Enclave has no ash, but you get the mint through the full wear (at least on my skin).
