  • Weird title, I know. But it will all become clear if you continue watching.
To put it simply, Stay Fresh Productions might not be what it is today without the inspiration from a number of select fragrances that I experienced along the way. Each of these fragrances imbued excitement for perfumery and fragrance reviewing, and not only got me started, but also kept me going.
Each of these fragrances has a story in my journey, and I hope you enjoy this anecdotal overview of them.

This is what a lot of us will have Justin, a journey of discoveries of perfumes someone likes for him or her. I love your personal discoveries and what made this hobby your passion. Thank you for sharing us your story.
My first perfume I wore for a long time as my signature scent as soon as it hit the market back then, was XS by Paco Rabanne. I started to discover niche somewhere in 2004/ 2005. I just don't remember anymore which one was my first. My biggest love for a long time was By Kilian Straight to Heaven and Serge Luttens Serge Noire for my nighttime adventures. That's when my collection also started to expand a lot till about 50 perfumes. My love for aromatic, woody, chypre and especialy fougère never died, so when I finaly reached the point; enough is enough and I started to downsize my collection, those scentprofiles were the ones I kept in several variations.

Thank you Justin for sharing your passion and love for fragrance so well, and even reminding us fragrance is just a tool for us, not the way we are thought of. Believe it or not, I actually blind bought this a couple years back because of your channel. Gucci Guilty Absolute is to this day my favorite fragrance to wear. I see where people are coming from but to me it’s so much deeper of a fragrance than meets the nose for most people. Definitely the most unique I’ve come across to date and will probably get another bottle to have around for when I run out of this one, because eventually it will happen and maybe by then you may not be able to get it anymore.

I was really validated in your experience with Serge Lutens Chergui, as this was my first blind buy after hearing such good reviews. All I could smell was the powder which was so off putting…now instead of selling, I’ll wait to see if it grows on me.

YSL L'homme kick started millions on their journey. I will never forget my first experience with this scent ever because it wasn't even something I bought for me. I lived with my grandad and I was buying Christmas gifts prolly around 08/09. I was with my friend and I knew I was gonna get him a fragrance we walked into one of those fragrance stores in the mall and this girl who worked there (was beautiful may I add) I would she buy out of everything in the store she picked up l'homme and said it was on of the best things she ever smelled. I bought it on the spot and gifted it to my grandfather. I later was gifted it from a gf I dated because even though I got it from him I snuck in to wear it from time to time and got so much love for wearing it. Thinking on the other day myself got me emotional cause my grandad had a stroke just a few weeks ago and he's been fighting through it but it hit him hard. Told myself that scent means something to me I'll never be without it it's tied to me greatly 💯

Great content as always, my brother, Justin. Even though I'm still relatively new to collecting, those trips down memory lane are really neat. Like how long before I started this journey, smelling the OG A*Men & being blown away by it (and I still love it today) or how when I first smelled Armani Code EDT & thinking "this is grown up luxurious in a bottle". And how when I first smelled John Varvatos' Vintage that I knew where I was headed lol.
    Be safe🙏

the most impressive effect a fragrance ever had on me, was the dry down from a sample of Dior Homme Intense when I woke up in the morning and smelled that spot on my arm. apparently, the perception of a scent right after waking up is way more sensitive, at least for me. like looking through a magnifying glass, seeing all the details crystal clear. that moment I totally understood how great that composition actually is. a magic scent without a doubt. I know you don't get the lavender, but, I even think the lavender is the note that makes DHI so special and without the lavender, it would be very clear what is missing

Nice for sharing this with us. As a guy born in '82, my first frag that made me love this world was my father's Monsieur de Givenchy (he had a late 70's gift set with the edt, the after shave and a soap). I've also loved my mother's O de Lancome - a very unisex frag if you ask me. Denim Original, Musk and Black were also big loves when I was a teen. Along the way I've got Drakkar Noir, IM l'Eau d'Issey PH and Euphoria for Men. The five fragrances that really ignited this hobby (I have +100 bottles atm) were YSL Opium PH (a 2007 birthday gift from my to be wife - I was 25 at the time and we still think it's a fantastic scent and not dated at all), Hermes TdH, IM l'Eau Bleue d'Issey PH, Burberry London and Dunhill Icon. All the best!

I keep going back and forth on if I should buy a backup bottle of GG Absolute….
    I have a 90ml that probably has 60-65 ml’s left…. Have a large collection but this is one I wear a decent amount… 1st World problems…
    Also…. Don’t underestimate GGA as a Fall / Winter office scent… I’m telling you.
As long as you are in an office that allows/ tolerates fragrance… obviously don’t go heavy on the trigger..
Couple sprays… Good to go. Same with Lalique Encre Noire A L’Extreme… Same principle.. Fall / Winter only.. couple sprays.. make sure you have 20-30 minutes to dry down..
Always have worked well for me…

I bought YSL L'Homme because of this channel at least in part. You've featured it quite a few times recently and I just finally said that I needed it. I had the Alexandria clone version of it, which is actually quite close and I really enjoyed that one, but it misses some of the finer aspects of the original which I can only pick up on by knowing the original. It's very nice, I think it's like the perfect "business casual" fragrance and does something more than just your typical dumb reacher.

I watched a gent scents video and decided to drop a bunch of money on fragrance to get started lol. My first haul was Versace man eau fraiche, Versace pour home, Armani code absolu, Valentino uomo, Issey miyake pulse of the night, and ferragamo f black if I remember right. I’ve owned like 300 bottles or so… I have about 150 now. If I get too many like fragrances… I pick a favorite and sell the others. Blind buying is my jam honestly.

YSL L'homme I call it my first love. It's the 1st perfume I bought. And Finished the bottle 2 years ago.
Recently,I purchased a 100ml bottle last week a 2017 batch. It's still smells nice. But, it's very weak projection.
I don't think I will buy it again UNLESS I get it in a very good deal.

  • @mrrob4590
    @mrrob4590 Год назад

Love the list Justin. I’d have to think hard of frags that keep me going through this hobby I’d have to say they would be.
Invasion Barbare which I didn’t love right away but kept thinking of I’d buy a sample. Wear it not be sure until finally I purchased it.
I’d also say. YSL rive gauche. I remember hearing from reviewers how great it was but it was discontinued. Low and behold I found a bottle in marshals of all places for 40 bucks or so and I bought it instantly.years later I found another bottle in a mall kiosk sitting way in the back of the owners stock. He didn’t even know he had it and sold it for the price on the sticker on the box 69 dollars. I’m sure he knew what it was worth but was gracious enough to give it at its pre discontinued price.
After that I found Xerjoff nio which really excited me. And now most recently it would have to be gentle fluidity silver. At first it reminded me of the dentist of all things but now I love it. It actually gets me excited for spring. There are many more but these are the notable ones.

(Memory) Jovan Musk (for Men) gaudy silver and orange packaging 😍😍😍 I was 16 and when I read the back of the box. “ THE IRRESISTIBLE PROVOCATIVE SCENT” 😁 look out ladies!! (High school Seniors) I thought I was Dr. Love when I wore that. 🤣😂🤣😂

If I had to think about my fragrance journey, it would be in 2 stages: the young stage and the adult searching for different.
The former goes back to younger days, when I would smell some nice colognes my dad would have and some I'd get. Of note were Ol Spice (original), English Leather, Perry Ellis 360* Blue and Perry Ellis Portfolio (blue), Wings, Nautica original, Aspen (the only thing with galbanum I can stand), BOD Really Ripped Abs and one of the more Tobacco oriented Cuba Paris. Those hooked me, but the most unique and memorable one was dad's Dunhill Desire (red), which he still wears to this day (along with the 360* I bought him). Not sure if you recall my previous story of this scent, but the few times I wore this in high school, boob hugs were scored. Add college to the young stage and Adidas Ice Dive was nice. Its weaker nowadays than when I had it 11yrs ago. Fresh to death....
The latter stage started 8yrs ago with some 1million and Dylan Blue fragrance oils and being hooked on Eros (which I haven't gotten all now), but got more intricate within the last 3yrs, when I started looking for more unique smelling that the whole of Jamaica wouldn't have. I started off watching Chaos Fragrances and Gents Scents (Ash) and the former mentioned one of the decant sites (TFDB) and I was hooked. My 1st 3 samples were DG The One edp, Bentley for Men Intense and one of my most hated, due to the realisation of galbanum, TF Noir Anthracite. It smelled like grey flannel, which is one cologne dad had that I HATED. Plus its an instant headache upon smell. Then you appeared on the radar and your most notable contribution to my sample haul was the intro to Authenticity as a brand. Now, I have amassed over 60 samples (going over 70 this week) and I have found some that are gold. The only gold ones I almost bought full bottles of, are CDN Milestone and Nikos Sculpture. Still planning to this year. B&S and BOP are still the ones I wish I had bought big time. Love them. Can't wait to try 2nd Soul and Evening Mystique because of those 2. For the ones I can't get a full bottle of just yet, I'll replenish the samples.
    Great concept Justin.

I asked the wife to get it back on an exchange from her uncle who was the person who got it as gift from me because he wouldn’t use it and it was the old formulation lol.

I also really like l'homme and have similar thoughts as those you shared. I did see somewhere (no clue if this is true) that a few of the men lines for different houses are gonna be discontinued in order to release simply 'genderless' fragrances. I have not seen LNDL in department stores and other physical stores in a few months. I haven't been able to bring myself to swallow the price for any of the l'homme line i really like.
Would you be interested in sharing some info on storing fragrances or the general expectations on how long different ones could be expected to last? I have a big bottle of voyage that is something like 8 years old that is now very sour.

The general guidelines for storing your fragrances are to keep them in a dry, cool, and dark place. It’s ok if all of these criteria or not perfect, as long as the location is not hot or does not ever get hot, or exposed to direct sunlight.

I’ve finally got vanilla oud , and I’m soooo disappointed it’s kinda horrible to me it smells like a fragrance that I find to smell like
Hot sweet piss , rhaba wood intense 😩😩 why do these have to have that same opening, out of all the fragrances it had
To smell like it just had to be one of the fragrances I find to be so unpleasant. Sure it dries down into something different but that vibe is still there throughout. I had such high hopes more so because of Ross than you but I’m shocked ! .

@@stayfreshproductions lol maybe but come on you know everyone does that. I know you talk about that a lot but I think it’s far fetched someone is going to sit there for five minutes or even 3 minutes then smell it I don’t think thats realistic but I understand what you mean by that but I’ve experienced it in more than one way. I’ve worn it for the last two days I’m wearing it now aswell so smelling it up close doesn’t have much of a bad effect or good effect for me. But I’m starting to like it more and more it does dry down into something much better than wood intense but wood intense is definitely still their but vanilla oud is much better can’t lie . I think I’m finding out I don’t really like caramel notes . It’s solid I think I will learn to love it more over time won’t be the first time . But Thank you for engaging hope all is well 🙏🏾

The one that got me was Versace Pour Homme. It's a very simple fragrance, I loved it, and the ladies really loved it. I don't think there's ever been a day where I've worn it and haven't gotten compliments. But the most important thing was that I really liked it.
