  • Welcome to Episode 4 of the Tamiya DT-01, DT-02 and DT-03 Project: Unboxings, Builds, Upgrades and Comparison!
    In this series we will be building the Tamiya Mad Bull 58205 (DT-01 Chassis), the Tamiya Sand Viper 58374 (DT-02 Chassis) and the Tamiya Racing Fighter 58628 (DT-03 Chassis) and do comparisons and a number of upgrades along the way. We might even have a look at some of the Grasshoppers, Hornets and a few other DT Buggies along the way.
    Whenever I have a video for this series, it will be available Sunday. Whenever I have two, one more video will be available sometime during the week.
    None of the buggies will be build stock and this video series is not intended for instructional purposes. Every detail of all three buggies have already been carefully planned and all optional parts and electronics have already been selected and purchased.
    There will be none of the usual guiding and explanatory texts in the videos, no color optimization and no time lapse. Videos are only targeted at fellow Tamiya fans. Sometimes it's time to let the raw images speak for themselves and just enjoy the RC car. The world is hurting and spinning faster and faster. People are suffering. But a little hobby time can allow us a short welcomed break from it all. Some peace. Sit back and relax. Pure RC building ... with a little music added (feel free to turn down the volume of the video and put on your own favorite music while you are watching).
    Hope you will follow along! Next episode coming up soon!

    My cup of tea? Oh Yes - definitely Mikael! Analogue radio gear? NiMh battery? Feels like my workshop. And did I see you use my shock filling trick - did it work for you? :)) Loved watching this build my friend, the whole series is my cup of tea - thanks for sharing! :))

      Oh my ... The whole idea was to ad a card with a link to your video. But somehow I forgot to add all links/cards, including my own :-) Corrected now. Thanks for the tip, Mark. Yeah, promised I would try it so here are the result. And yes, absolutely no rebound at all, so I am guessing no air and I am guessing it worked :-) Maybe it is the best shock oil tip around on youtube these days :-) I even let them sit for a while to make sure (just the time it took to build the chassis). And thanks a lot for watching, mate. Yeah, we are going old school and analogue (also the servo) with this one. Mark Bryan Style ;-) Well, maybe even beyond Mark Bryan here, since there are no brushless motors here ;-)

    I haven't thought thoroughly but just placed a 3650 motor with a 120 ESC in it. They were originally installed in Wltoys 144002-RTR, but I throw Wltoys away because the Central drive shaft has stuck into differential gears after minor crashes. The Mad Bull gives me a lot of fun, and I don't need to concern so much about replacement because the price of the differential gear set is cheap. The differential gear has still spilled out dark silicone shock oil though it is 500000CS.
    Good Car.

      Hi Ray! Sounds like a fast Mad Bull! Ahh, yeah, use grease instead of diff/shock oil. The diffs are not sealed so not meant for oil.

    I have three grasshopper II’s (all built from spare parts scraped together) and a new Madbull (built from an actual kit). I have never used that wire steering servo link for any of them, opting to substitute it for ball ends and a small tie rod. It’s so much better than standard, it’s amazing that tamiya never opted for this simple setup.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  4 года назад

      Nice! Yeah, I noticed a lot of play with that steering linkage too. So one day it will definitely be substituted by a tie rod 🙂 But wanna try the DT-01 set-up almost stock before 🙂

      Hi Tore! Yeah, I think this is one of the Tamiyas that one is into or not. But maybe you'll like my version. It will be a bit different. And thanks a lot for the nice words. Really appreciate. No, well, I had planned everything for the calendar. But all this FTC and COPPA and RUclips (if you have heard about it) has put my motivation down quite a bit, I'm afraid. Not for the hobby, but all the hours of editing and filming :-) So no calendar this year, and maybe no Nordic RC Visions next year. Keep on RC'ing :-)

    Good job! One problem is now I have to get one.....this video was made me relax, and I haven't built anything like the Mad Bull yet. How is your work bench so clean? The DT-01 wishbones and bumper made in a very durable plastic. Strange they have changed to colour of the plastic on the front shock tower and battery holders from black. But fitting a large battery is a issue in these.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  4 года назад

      yeah, seems very flexible and durable. All these hoppers are so durable. Uhh, they used to be black? From the pictures of the old Mad Bull online they seem the same grey as this one.

  • @Diamondbac

    How sturdy is the chassis? The joint between the chassis and the drive train unit looks mighty flimsy. In the event of the suspension bottoming out or a bad landing with the chassis on a rock, would the chassis snap in two? It seems like the joint would wear out just under normal usage.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  2 года назад

    Nice relaxing build with my coffee bro, That has to be the easiest hobby grade build ever!! For the lipo to work look into Venom batteries they have a lipo that I use in the same shape as the NIMH and the plugs are center mounted.I like the CVA upgrade bud please tell me you are not using those bushing thou. I absolutely love this series Mikael ☺️

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  4 года назад +1

      Thanksa lot, Chris! Yeah, even with the CVA's it was quick and easy. Just like a Grasshopper/Hornet :-) The only thing that took some time, was filming it (setting up cameras, camera angles etc etc.). Yeah, I've heard about the Venom batteries. Maybe I aught to check them out. I just dislike having all these 'special batteries'. The pile of different batteries are growing and growing. Ha ha, no, no bushings here, but they are included in the package. The Gear Box in part 1 was build with extra metal ball bearings and steel pinion. Essential :-)
