Its always a blast when the guys around you race clean. I ran a race this weekend in the ARCA car at Darlington and while the car was a bear to handle late, most of us made it to the finish.
I'm sure that my driving is better for switching to tripples. It's so nice to have such a big field of view. Good luck getting your rig back together again. 👍🍀
hey Dave if u add others two 27" screen to 90 degrees over main, and switch ur ultrawide in 2 parts, u can active surround for the best view experience

I went from an ultrawide -> triples -> Oculus Rift S -> Index. You just can't beat the immersion of a high-end PC running iRacing on high settings pumping it through the index at 120fps. I can understand why some people are still on the fence between triples and VR right now but unless you're the type that gets sick in VR it seems like a weird time to invest in triples. With the new graphics cards and VR headsets that are dropping over the next year, it doesn't seem like a good idea to invest in tech that's on it's way out when you'll soon be able to get a MUCH better experience, that takes up less space for a fraction of the price. I don't think there is any question that monitors will be phased out in the near future for enthusiast-level sim players, it's more of a question as to how soon.
No more single ultrawide? are you going to triples? can you explain why you made the change? and what you're changing to? would love to see a video explaining the reasons!

I also started with the formula v2 wheel but I quickly bought a bigger wheel (the BMW wheel) because the dd1 almost broke my wrists a few times. Can really recommend getting a bigger wheel for classes where you have to correct more.
The heartrate monitor would have been interesting on this one. It would have looked like your throttle trace in turn one. lol. Looks like you had great fun. I enjoyed it as always.
That Skippy looks fun to drive. I was going to go with that series this season, till I saw the price tag for all the tracks. Went with the BMW M4 instead. But I'll get in a Skippy some day.

I had ultrawide before switching to triples... would consider it as a bad solution even if you do other things on your rig. Simply due to the fact that you are not able to correct the distortion on the relatively large FOV. That problem you will have in any game, not only in Sim Racing.
So 2 questions Dave, what program are you running so your brake and throttle inputs with the graph are on screen? And how many cams does it take to show your face, watch the race, and the upper right corner cam ?

What's the deal with Jim? I'm fairly new to iRacing, but I'm soo frustrated I'm about to disable the spotter entrely. I tried the iracing spotter, then I downloaded crew chief, same problem. I'll be right alongside another car, and spotter sill say "clear left, car left, clear left..." What's the point of a spotter if he tells you "clear" at the WORST possible time? I used to suspect they were alongside but behind me when I heard that, untill I saw this video. You can clearly see a car neck-and-neck alongside Dave midcorner when the spotter keeps calling clear at 10:22

Hi Dave! Since I only watch you occasionally (but still enjoy watching you a lot) I was curious why you uploaded a standard wide format video if you were using ultrawide? Was that race recorded during stream or it was more convenient to work with this clip in standard format afterwards?
@@davecamyt Makes sense for general user experience when in Fullscreen mode and having in mind that 21:9 (or whatever aspect ratio you've got) is a niche. Although if set properly (not faking 21:9 into 16:9) RUclips normal and theater mode benefits greatly, while generally in all 3 modes we (viewers) would get interesting and a little bit more dramatic and aggresive point of view which suits racing. But since it's your last day with utlrawide it also makes sense to keep videos consistent. Eitherway thank you for your answer and wish you being as far away as possible from the Shadow Realm!

(even with iracing set to 3 monitor to account for curve) Well performance-wise, they are pretty close. Is your CPU air or liquid cooled? Reason I ask is the founders edition 3080 shoots heat right where your CPU is. However, they're reportedly going to be back in stock next week on nVIdia. I'm set up for preorder notification. Personally, I'm going 3090 for the extra VRAM. You may want to consider that as well instead of the 3080 due to the triple screen hit on video memory. (Or at worst wait on the 20gb 3080 ti) I would personally worry about 3 1440p screens w/ lots of eye candy burning through 10gb. EVGA or ASUS would be my preference though compared to founders edition straight from nvidia. STRIX or FTW variants are top performers.
Yes gone for 27" triples. I always said if all you do is sim race triples are better. I'm getting another computer soon so my rig will be for racing only 👍
@@davecamyt Haven't you tried TrackIR? With an Ultrawide it's IMO FAR better than 27" triples and almost like VR, just without a sweaty headset and the performance hit, and it's obviously still 2D. I bought it for 76 Euro on Ebay.
PS: I also noticed that triples add quite some input- or graphical lag even to iRacing (graphical wheel lags behind physical). Since I noticed that on RUclips (even Boosted Media has hell of an input lag with this hyper-PCs) I thought it's because of streaming and V-Sync enabled, but the SRG has input-lag as well and never recorded game-footage. For me I can tell, there is no visible input-lag with my setup, not with the HG90 and not with the RG90 either and not even in ACC. With TrackIR (Trackhat is an alternative from the UK) I get about the FOV-range of a triple 40", it works flawless while running (sometimes needs a restart after a break) and rather made me faster. You have a center-button like in VR, but global, not per game. Like shakers an absolute must have and best bang for the buck.
What's up with the ultrawide? You going to go triples Dave? I've been dabbling with VR and I don't think I really like it, gonna probably sell it and get my triples going too lol

For racing only triples all the way. I've found 27" to be the sweet spot. If you do other things on your rig then an ultrawide is a great compromise 👍

In CrewChief settings you can change how long you have to be clear for it to say clear.

Dave what setup did you use. The baseline is all over the track ?
I just maxed out everything and dropped the tyre pressures. 8 roll bar and 5 for the spring. 3.1 gals of fuel 👍

Yes gone for 27" triples. I always said if all you do is sim race triples are better. I'm getting another computer soon so my rig will be for racing only 👍

@@davecamyt Haven't you tried TrackIR? With an Ultrawide it's IMO FAR better than 27" triples and almost like VR, just without a sweaty headset and the performance hit, and it's obviously still 2D. I bought it for 76 Euro on Ebay.
PS: I also noticed that triples add quite some input- or graphical lag even to iRacing (graphical wheel lags behind physical). Since I noticed that on RUclips (even Boosted Media has hell of an input lag with this hyper-PCs) I thought it's because of streaming and V-Sync enabled, but the SRG has input-lag as well and never recorded game-footage. For me I can tell, there is no visible input-lag with my setup, not with the HG90 and not with the RG90 either and not even in ACC. With TrackIR (Trackhat is an alternative from the UK) I get about the FOV-range of a triple 40", it works flawless while running (sometimes needs a restart after a break) and rather made me faster. You have a center-button like in VR, but global, not per game. Like shakers an absolute must have and best bang for the buck.
