On inductance - I suspect faulty sample. I've just received my AL01 to replace my old broken UniT with inductance capability (UT71). My new AL01 was spot-on (within 5% of nominal) on my power inductors. 0.68-3.3uH.
With one youtube sample that doesn't deliver you can expect similar problems down the road. On the technical side, those L measurements errors looks like missing bits in the ADC. The results are double of what they should be. If it were a salvageable device it would have been interesting to see if the error translates to other measurements (DC, AC) for that 3+ range.
Thanks! Would love some comments on how it compares to the AN8008 with the same form factor that everyone raves about (for the price). The case is so nice looking because it's copied from / based it on the Fluke 100 series (101, 106, 107).
Excellent review, thank you as always. I guess ANENG just cut a few too many corners on this one. They have better multimeters though with the same size, just a bit pricier but clearly worth it.
Promising a function if it doesn´t work - That´s a no-go! Fake it until you take it is not a possibility for test equipment. Aneng had builded up some reputation with the famous 9999 Count multimeters 8008/8009. And delivers a sudden death with this one. Very sad! BTW: Very nice LED - test rig. This time it simply works! Even the haunted yellow one...
You bet ! Induction is definitely a cool add-on , if it works! At this point it's merely a gimmick 😅 Yep, LED tester is back in action just needed a little tuneup ! 👍
2/5 oof that is really low for your ratings. Usually I think you are pretty generous, but if you rated it that low, I'll consider it garbage. Aneng seems to have fallen off. They used to be close to Kaiweets, but now it seems like they are pumping out low quality junk. I recently ordered a DSO3D12 from Zeweii to test the voice activated commands. Hopefully it arrives in a week or 2. Keep. Keep doing what you do. Love the high quality reviews.
Unfortunately, no firmware updates can be possible, this chip has a mask ROM. PS, yesterday I played Luxor Evolved and suddenly saw "Darren Walker" in the final credits. Is it a coincidence?
This is the kinda meter I probably would have bought based on features, specs and appearances. Grateful for your review and hopeful that others will avoid this steaming pile of cr4p
No problemo Eric 👍 Sad thing is had ANENG done this properly, it would have been a sweet multimeter but once again they dropped the ball and left us with (as you say) a steaming pile of cr4p.
Sadly not quite ready for prime time -- if your gonna be bold enough to add the moniker "high precision" to a meter then add a mH range maybe it needs to oh, I dont know....WORK. LOL I like some of my old Aneng products, some I dont - its always been hit or miss with them, I have a couple little 8008/8009's from my early first meter days that've always been fairly dependable little cheap-o's and worth what I paid for 'em- but I had to move on to bigger and better things so UniT became my new cheapo brand and I even sprung for a couple higher/mid end ones as most are pretty darn good but as with Aneng even with UniT theres been one here and there in the past that had their quirks, but for the most part UniT really picked up their game over time with some great offerings and Aneng needs to do the same to stay in the game.
True enough Mike..UNI-T is now a major test instruments OEM with some kick arse gear that just keeps getting better. Aneng isn't even in the same league now and I'm beginning to doubt they ever will be! 😮
What on Earth has happened to Aneng? all misses lately. I think the unobtanium fuse choice is to discourage you from blowing them up😊or if I was the cynical type so you have to replace the meter.
Yeah, it's a shame because if someone where to ask me "What is a cheap, good, DMM for basic electronics work", I would still recommend the Aneng AN8008 (yes we know it's a Zotek but Aneng made it popular)
Not much point adding a function that doesn't work too well!! I have seen those size fuses as through hole components soldered onto boards but never as standard clip in fuses, unless they cut the legs off of course.
Привет Даррен. Согласен полностью с оценкой. Очень странно, Аненг решили сделать новое бюджетное устройство на обновленном контроллере, а получилось хуже чем было. Всё же клоны на древнем 0660L Работают лучше.
Imho, without induction and ncv, it would be not so bad multimeter, even with low quality probes. But it is chinese kind of way ) PS Fault NCV = literally death threat (
Well, I guess AL in its name could stand for "alcohol". It's slow at continuity, regularly misreads inductance, can't see the NCV right in front of it. Go home, Aneng, you're drunk. 🥴
Oh boy! New Darren Walker (and Aneng) content! Thank god I've got my snacks and drinks
Save me some of that popcorn! 🍿👍

Excellent! Glad it's working properly on your unit. 👍
@Darren Walker Try probe from Mechanic P30
I just ordered a pair. Thx for the heads up.
Thanks for the review.
Thx for watching ! 👀
I agree to measure the smaller values more accurate. Nowadays the DC-DC converters use all values from 100nH to 100uH. So, all fine with the Aning!
Thanks for the review. My 8008 is good enough for my vehicle go bag. Those fuses really? At least they could have used a standard size.
Cheers ! So true eh..those fuses are beyond bad..at the very least ANENG should have thrown in a spare 🙄👍

I think the 8008 is functionally a better, more accurate dmm.
Excellent review, thank you as always. I guess ANENG just cut a few too many corners on this one. They have better multimeters though with the same size, just a bit pricier but clearly worth it.
Right on the money! 💰 They really needed to make the inductance range way more reliable too.. 😅 as it stands it's more like half a meter.

Thx my friend ..agreed, ANENG really has lowered their quality the past year...too bad really.
Please standardize your tests procedures across all multimeters. It will be easy for the audience to do comparisons.

PS, yesterday I played Luxor Evolved and suddenly saw "Darren Walker" in the final credits. Is it a coincidence?
Ahhhhh ..
My lips are sealed 😌
@@KeepOnTesting Yep, I played it again... it's the fourth wave in the final credits level.

It's really a mixed bag with a little too much on the negative side. The fuse choice is unforgivable though.
I still can't believe those tiny fuses ! 😅
What on Earth has happened to Aneng? all misses lately. I think the unobtanium fuse choice is to discourage you from blowing them up😊or if I was the cynical type so you have to replace the meter.
My thoughts too Shaun..seems Aneng is more concerned about churning out meters than actually making them useable. 😳
Yeah, it's a shame because if someone where to ask me "What is a cheap, good, DMM for basic electronics work", I would still recommend the Aneng AN8008 (yes we know it's a Zotek but Aneng made it popular)
@@shaunmorrissey7313The little ANENG 8008 is definitely a classic!
Nitpicking but that is not an external oscillator. It is an internal oscillator. The can marked 8.000 is a crystal, not an oscillator.
Appreciate the correction. 😅
If inductance, NCV and size of the fuses were ok that would be my choice for DMM
100% 😊 👍
please review and accuracy MF47 analog multimeter made in china.
Will do! ..I have already ordered one for review 😊👍

Yep..those fuses are a real headscratcher! Aneng needs to do some homework and get back on track 😮😮

Sorry Darren. I didn’t write in English, it just happened automatically))) I completely forgot about it)))
😮👍🏻♥️👍🏻

I hear ya..
The ncv on this is a real turd and honestly laughable..I think you're better off using a Screwdriver 🪛...just kidding!! 😅
@@KeepOnTestingold style screwdriver with neon light definitely works better)
Agree my friend but the USP of this cheepo is the inductance capability which is a fail.
Probably it's designed for the smaller chinese hands?
Doubt it. Many multimeters are small. I think it's more about portability and pocket ability rather than physical characteristics. 👍
😁

😅 👍
So the one trick pony is a donkey. Nice light emitting diode test rig. Your old method did not guarantee a connection
Hee-haw..Yes indeed Paul..All toll there isn't much here other than high hopes. 😅
