- You guys asked for it, here we go! Nightwish was in high demand, and we were super pumped to experience some symphonic metal! Most of you specified that we check out the performance of Ghost Love Score live at Wacken Open Air in 2013. So this was our first intro to these metal legends, check it out to see what we thought.

Floor's vocal range is INSANE. She can sing operatic and can also growl. It's sick
Not only that, she can also sing flawlessly in languages she doesn't know. And, for anyone thinking "wait, that can't be right".....no, no, it's right, she's done it.
@@Kratosx23 yep sang a song in spanish, a language she doesnt know, in front of the og singer and arguably did it better than he did lol.
They (the vocalists) sound veeery different. Tarja ("Tar'-ya") has operatic voice, Anette has very "poppy", "mainstream" so to say, voice; she is good in a studio but not so live. And Floor Jansen ("Yansen"), well... she has it all. Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. She is singing not words but emotions. And she is really tall, I mean 6'1 + heels.
Organ pipes are for decoration, but behind them are 3 keyboards Tuomas is playing on.
For Floor it was first really big gig with Nightwish, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few months with the band. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark.
Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs.
They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff.

Fun fact: Floor joined NW in a middle of their world tour, and she had to learn the entire setlist for the upcoming shows in 48 hours, and they successfully completed the Imaginaerum World Tour with Floor. Right after that, they made Floor officially their frontwoman. And this Wacken 2013 performance is a part of that tour. I've been a fan of the band since the beginning. IMO, there is no band that can compare to Nightwish in overall talent. :)
You will learn of Tarja and the resulting Drama, I do suggest that you listen to early nightwish, get to know her singing with the band BEFORE you get to Poet and the pendulum You will appreciate the pain that that song represents a lot better for the Band, for Toumas (it is a lyrical suicide, it you watch the long time members go stand close to Toumas when they play it and they do not play it often anymore, Toumas also has his ear pieces turned off during it.) and for the fans a LOT better, Most of the "army" will expect you to do your homework with that song and do not rush it. Some of that anger and hurt comes out in Master, Passion, Greed

@@alanfoster6589 That really depends. If you want the Best Full sound experience you go cruise, if you want them to see Floor's special trick faster then go Wembley.
I'm going to disagree about the Wembley version of "Yours Is An Empty Hope". The reason why is that people who think it's better dont hear very well -- and on the Nightwish Cruise, Marco is the _only_ one singing the chorus -- Floor is growling. Plus, the acoustics are better, and it sounds way heavier than Wembley.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. As a next song to take a look at i would recommend their masterpiece "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. Hi girls. The lead singer is Dutch, sings in a Finnish band (Nightwish), lives in Sweden with her husband who's the drummer in a band called Sabaton.
We (Dutch) are proud that Floor Jansen is from the Netherlands. In 2019 the band Nightwish got a boost (esp. in the Netherlands) when Floor Jansen participated in a Dutch tv-how called Beste Zangers (Best Singers). Beste zangers is a Dutch reality television show. In each series a number of well-known performers alternate as the central artist who picks songs out of their own repertoire to be sung by the others. The original performer judges the "covers" of their songs done by the participants.

Nice reaction! FYI: there were 82,000+ in the audience that night. GLS is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' From the same concert. The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013.

Congratulations, lovely ladies, you have discovered one of the most amazing voices on the planet. Subbed. Please continue your journey. Tuomas is quite the poet and every song has a meaning to him. Sometimes you have to dig around to find it, but it’s there. He said in an interview as he writes the lyrics to a new song that the music just appears in his head. The man’s a genius. Every song has a different flavor and as you have seen there are surprising change-ups within the songs. Floor officially joined the band in 2013 and the stunning 6’1” Valkyrie can sing any genre flawlessly. She became my favorite the first time I heard her. 😄🤘

Glad I've listened to this already about 150 times so I know what it really sounds like. Wouldn't have been able to tell from this video. I wish I could recommend the gear you need, but I don't know. But you can capture and pass through the original video audio so it sounds as good in your video as the original video you are reviewing. Good luck, I'd like to hear more.

Excellent reaction. From this same Wacken 2013 show, I recommend Romanticide (Marko also sings on that one, and Emppu rips an awesome solo) , I Want My Tears Back, Song of Myself and Storytime. For something even more epic than this one, try The Greatest Show On Earth live at Tampere. The first singer was Tarja...she sang pretty much in the operatic style all the time. The second singer Annette was more of a pop-rock vocalist but couldn’t do the operatic stuff. Floor, the current singer, can do it ALL!
The decorative keyboard screen was inspired by a monument to Finish national composer, Jean Sibelius.

I feel like you guys are missing out by not having quality audio to listen to this on, IMO.
3 singers and they have all been good however, they do not sound the same. 1st dark sound, beautifully operatic. 2nd Light sound, more of a belter but, fit perfect for the next set of songs written. and 3rd. as you have heard her here. :) The thing about Nightwish is, they are a complete package of talent with goodies on the side. lol

And ladies, I would highly recommend the new album to hear Floor today -- my suggestion is listening to Pan, as it has one of the _hardest_ vocal lines I've ever heard from a modern vocalist sing.
For pure emotion, I recommend "How's the Heart" from the new album, or "Ever Dream" from Wacken 2013. "Ever Dream" is one of the few songs I've ever heard that the drummer -- Jukka -- and Floor combine to give an emotional gut-punch you don't soon forget. As some have said, Floor doesn't sing just words, but _emotions._ And with Ever Dream, it was unknown if she was going to be a part of the band after the 2012-2013 tour. So as a result, the Wacken show had a _lot_ more emotion because was, I believe, singing her heart out for the fans. She wanted to stay, and she showed why letting her stay was the best choice the band made.
For more band recommendations, I have two of them. First up is Unleash the Archers, from Vancouver, BC, Canada. They are a power metal band -- and I recommend Awakening, followed by Time Stands Still and Tonight We Ride. The lead singer, Brittney Slayes, is a very close second to Floor Jansen, in terms of her range. Next up is a lesser-known band called Ignea, from Ukraine. Their music is what I call "Middle Eastern metal," as a lot of it has sounds in it that reminds me of movies like Scorpion King and Prince of Persia. Their lead singer is a lady named Helle Bogdanova, who not only sings "clean," but also does what is called "fry-growling." Three of their songs I recommend are Alga, Alexandria, and Disenchantment (which is from a recently released album. And on a side note, Helle is a social worker, to boot -- which I find to be both amazing and awesome!
Nightwish is a Finnish band but Floor Jansen is Dutch. In 2012 when Anette Olzon chose to part ways with the band Floor was asked to join the band for their live tour. She was at that moment at her sisters wedding when she received the invitation and had to fly to Seatle the same day and learn the entire set-list in just 48 hours. Of course she put up an amazing performance.

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie; and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

Want to watch this journey 👍Anything from Wacken is golden SOOO if you're gonna binge watch anything THAT'S a go to especially if you're under quarantine😂 then branch out. The lead singer Floor Jansen was on a television show in the Netherlands Last Summer call Beste Zangers ( apparently nobody knew about her in the Netherlands before the show) where she sang a multiple of different genres of music including cover of shallow by Lady Gaga and the best version a Phantom of the Opera with Henke Port that I have ever heard. So enjoy this book you just opened up. Can't wait for the next chapter LOL!!🤘🤘🤘🤘

Jukka on the drums was also an original band member. Although he has stopped drumming for health reasons he is still involved in the admin side of the band! Marko on bass has also been around a long time although he is the second bassist. He is also a great singer and guitar-player - see "High Hopes", "The Islander" or any of his solo work. Glad you show Emppu some love - everyone's favourite hobbit! If you see him beside Floor - he is 5'3" and Floor is 6'1" (before the boots!). Welcome to Nightwish! Hi from Australia!

The first singer Tarja has a more operatic sound (sounds a lot like an opera)... Anette the 2nd singer had more of a pop sound... Floor is kinda an amalgamation of both styles...

Tarja - Original singer. Very skilled opera singer. One of the creators of the Symphonic Metal genre. A legend.
Anette - Second singer. Pop voice. The band was evolving and needed a voice that was less operatic, Tuomas wanted to go into a cinematic direction as he is inspired by Disney themes and folk music. She had trouble singing Tarjas songs and was not recieved well by fans or critics.
Floor: Current singer. Combination of skill and gift from God. Can sing both Tarjas and Anettes songs. Had classical training and has been singing in a metal band since she was 15. Most of us think she completed the band and took them three steps further. She has a stage presence of a superstar. One of the best singers and frontmen in the world.

Lots of simply superb Nightwish songs to choose from and Floor is a goddesses. Folks have already suggested some of the songs where they really rock out. However if you really want to see Floor growl there is a live, not great recording but OK, version of her with an older band ReVamp called Wild Card where she really unleashes the growl.

Welcome to Nightwish! You will have to spend some time falling down this rabbit hole, it is well worth it. I have yet to hear a Nightwish song I didn't love. You can never tell quite what you are going to get out of a Nightwish song until you actually listen to it, but you can be sure it will be awesome!
Emppu is great. Especially when you see him pranking the other band members mid concert. If you watch close enough on I Want My Tears Back from the same concert (Wacken 2013) he unpluggs Floor's in ear monitors mid song then she spends the rest of the song trying to watch where he is going so he can't do it again. You also see before it happens he plots the timing of it with Troy.
The whole Wacken 2013 concert was epic. Floor has startted in the band only 10 months earlier. Song of Myself is a good choise for the next react. And btw - use headphones, it is much more comfortable for the viewers when it gets the song heard in good quality.
The keyboardist creates all the music so honestly he’s the least replaceable.

The first singer, Tarja was more opera oriented, more in headvoice, the second, Annette more in rock. Current and third singer, Floor can do pretty much anything. Which singer is better depends on the song. I really like this Tarja performance: ruclips.net/video/loaKHHdPo-Q/видео.html
Hi, maybe some clarification: The first singer Tarja (Finish woman)was a opera singer, the second Anette (Swedish woman) was more a pop/rock voice, Floor (woman from The Netherlands)...well Floor is from another planet :) She can do opera, metal/rock, scream, growl, pop.

You've seen that Floor can belt it out and also mitigate her voice but to get a different side of her, a much more lyrical, more "in role" side, I suggest you check out the Phantom of the Opera performance on Beste Zangers some have posted here. Both Floor and Henk absolutely blew it out of the water and Floor stuns you every time with her powerful D6 note which she holds for several seconds!

If you wanna hear them sing in Finnish, check out "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan", "Taikatalvi" or "Erämaajärvi". I don't think there's a live version of Erämaajärvi but there's live versions of Kuolema tekee taiteilijan (End of an Era, Tarja singing) and Taikatalvi (Jyväskylä 2012, Marco singing).

The song was going to be covered by Rock Band Bad Wolf in 2018 and Dolores O'Riordan lead singer of the Cranberries was going to sing with them, on the day they were going to record the track she tragically passed away. The 3 vocalists sound totally different. Floor is absolutely Top notch, cannot be compared to the others as far as I'm concerned. The organ pipes are just props, they hide the keyboards :-)
Tuomas, drummer Jukka and guitarist Emppu are the founders. Sadly, Jukka had to step away from the band due to developing chronic insomnia, which made playing and touring impossible. He is still very much involved with the band in a business capacity.
Emppu can shred with the best of them. He just often chooses not to. He is an incredibly tasteful player, and plays to what the song needs. But to see him let loose just watch 'Romanticide'. And in 'Nemo' he lets rip with one of the most memorable bluesy rock solos of all time.
Jukka joined a bit later so Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja are considered to be the founders.
