Welcome in the big group of the Nightwish army, i've cried the first time i heard the studio version, the first time i've seen it live with Tarjia, and then many many more times recently with this "Wacken edition" with Floor, there's so much to hear about nightwish!
I'd suggest you to react to "Greatest show on Earth in Tampere", i think you would appreciate that A LOT! This band has to be seen LIVE! Even in video, it's tons times better live than studio. Enjoy your trip with this band!

It will help you to understand what a treasure her voice is and how differently she can sing. Best wishes💓

Nailed it the 2nd time, Vacken. Nightwish is considered symphonic metal. 82000+ fans in northwestern Germany. Every year they do a 3 day festival. Meet Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen), the 6'1" Dutch queen of symphonic metal. She is fully able to make a grown man weep. Operatic and musical theater training and charisma and stage presence with the best of them. Tuomas the keyboardist composes most of the music and lyrics and he is a big fan of movie scores. He loves Hans Zimmer's work. Nightwish runs backing tracks on some songs for the symphony and choir parts. I see you saw the woman in the front who is having an out of body experience listening ti Floor's amazing voice. no worries. most of us wept the first time we heard this performance. Can you hear the rolling thunder? That would be the Nightwish army heading your way. Your epic journey has only just begun my friend. Next "Romanticide" from the same show. The wall of sound was a term used by Phil Spector. See you for the next one. That last note generates what we fans like to call a "Floorgasm"!

Also, if this is your first ever music video reaction, you picked one hell of a band to start with.
This entire Wacken 2013 concert of Nightwish is one of those "once in a lifetime" events.

Floor is the modern day equivalent of Freddie Mercury. Insane vocal ability, charisma, emotional impact, and crowd control. She's truly a very special human being, and I feel absolutely privileged to have been able to discover and enjoy her music while she's still in her prime and performing at the absolute top of her game. I think the best word to describe her is versatile. She can literally do anything with her voice and routinely brings me to tears. And paired with Tuomas' (the keyboard player) music and poetry, it's a match made in the purest heaven.

Hello @ GOG Grumpy Old Gamers! Nightwish Army incoming here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. It was a joy to see your emotions out. Nightwish have this effect on mortals like us..
Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan:
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

Yes, she (Floor, the lead singer) does this on a regular basis - and so much more! She is the most complete female vocalist I know of. I’m 55 and grew up on the early metal scene in the 70s but had never heard of Nightwish until my son introduced me to them about 3 years ago. Why you (and I) never heard of them is we are Americans and this type of music (symphonic metal) just isn’t a thing here...unfortunately. Come to find out, Nightwish has toured the US consistently going back a couple of decades, but because they never got airplay on the radio in US, we had no clue. Thanks to the miracle of the innerwebs we can now find out about all sorts of bands we’ve been deprived of. I think Nightwish will be your gateway to a whole new world of music because people will start requesting you react to groups you have never heard of, and your mind will be blown! Welcome to your new musical reality...enjoy the ride!

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.
    Band members
Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics)
Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals)
    Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer)
Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player)
Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK)
The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. The documentary is called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" (ruclips.net/video/vhExkmWKMEU/видео.html )
As a next song to take a look at i would recommend their masterpiece "The poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. Before you take a look at it i would recommend to take a look at the backstory of this song. This will make you appreciate it much more. here is the link ruclips.net/video/gbn9GczYBkw/видео.html
BTW that last note she just sang? Nightwish fans created a whole new word for when she does something impressive like that. We call it a Floorgasm. Welcome to the club and boy are you going to receive a lot of traffic on your channel. ;-)

That was a very enjoyable first reaction, thank you. I think I counted five or six "goddesses" during the reaction, which is sort of a record, but it is telling that almost every second reactor spontaneously uses that title when first confronted with Floor. I guess it's just recognition of the obvious. :) Yep, you just met a goddess. Her name is Floor Jansen, she's Dutch, yes she is tall (183 cm / 6 feet), and you have now heard about twenty percent of what she can do, 'cause she can also sing opera, jazz, soft ballads, scream, growl... basically everything. One of the best singers on the planet right now, perhaps the best current female singer in popular music, and probably the most versatile. Also, her stage presence, but you've seen that yourself. She's the third singer for the band, and the band leader (Tuomas, the keyboardist and main songwriter) said in a recent interview that they had "hit the jackpot" with her. I agree.
For a first time reactor I think you did things pretty right. Not too many pauses, not really in awkward places. Your commentary was really good and well informed; your experience as a listener of music shows. For example, you picked up the musical theater vibe, and Floor indeed had a musical theater / classical education at a conservatory (and taught singing and performance herself for many years and has been a professional metal singer all her adult life since she started out at 16 in her first band After Forever, back in 1997).
Wacken is the world's biggest annual metal festival; it's held in a 2000 people village of that name in northern Germany each first week in August (sadly, not this year, due to coronavirus). They were 82,000 in attendance at this show; Nightwish was the evening's headlining act.
Why have you never heard of them? Several reasons, I think. First, their songs are on average a bit too long for American radio, and probably deemed too unusual / too quirky / too intense. Second, I think that American and European tastes in metal differ somewhat. I think I noticed that many Americans expect their metal to be "brutal". While there certainly are some Europeans who feel that way, for many Europeans metal should rather be "epic", and that certainly fits Nightwish, and they are huge in metal Europe, and I mean HUGE; the best-selling band to come out of Finland, for example. So Nightwish doesn't really conform to the metal expectations of American listeners and radio stations; there's a bit of a cultural divide, I think. But once confronted with Nightwish, most American reactors ask the same question as you did: How have I never heard of this band?
Gabriel Bardac will be along shortly, I guess, and give you a detailed overview over the band's history and a list of recommendations. They're good recommendations (although he always misses "7 Days to the Wolves" live at Wembley 2015) giving an overview over the extremely wide variety that this band does, from some really heavy stuff through melodic metal through Celtic-infused metal/rock through prog rock epics through mellow ballads. The genre is called symphonic metal, and Nightwish were among the pioneers, but have started to transcended it. Some of their music is influenced by movie scores too (Hans Zimmer particularly).
Have fun discovering Nightwish; I know you will. :) If you want, let us the fans be part of it and maybe do some more first-listen reactions to their songs. The usual second song to react to is Romanticide, live from this concert, which is on the heavy side for Nightwish, but still melodic and epic of course.

Before you move on to other concerts, play Storytime, Everdream and Song of Myself from this same concert (Wacken 2013), like all graet bands they are much better live. The next concerts are Wembley and Tampere 2015 and the Buenos Aires in 2018. By the way her name is Floor Jansen and the keyboardist Tuomas writes the music and lyrics.

    Great reaction!
Just a helpful hint - if you put the name of the group and song as the title instead of numbers it will increase the reactions to your videos many, many hundreds of times!
Nightwish has what we call an "army"and if you name the video after the group and the song you WILL get an amzing amount of traffic from the fans of this group, guaranteed!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. What a way to start your journey!
Yes, she does that all the time, as do all of them. In fact that is only about 25% of what she (and they) can do.
I would recommend "Romanticide" from the same concert (Wachen 2013) as a follow-up song from them. In fact every song from that concert is incredible. One of the greatest live performances ever, in mine and a lot of people's opinions.
They also have other live performances that I am sure others will fill you in on and they alsojust released a new album. I would encourage you to check out a lot of their live performances before you check out the new album.
Nightwish is best served live! (Although i believe their new album is a masterpiece)
You can never go wrong live with Nightwish with the singer from this video as the lead (they have had three lead singers, all female.) Floor (that is her name) is the latest, the last, and the greatest.
Welcome to the Nightwish army! The rabbit-hole goes DEEP! Enjoy!!

@Swords Chant No, not "normal". It's still well above average. The Dutch are statistically the tallest people in the world, and the average for women is somewhere near 1.75 m. I know a few women in my home country Germany (which is also in the upper part of the "list") who are similar in height, but they are still exceptions. Similar situations you'd find across Scandinavia.

I'm not sure what age you are (I'm 54), but your story into music reaction videos is almost a mirror image of mine. This video was my first ever experience of Nightwish also. It was almost two years ago. I had tears streaming down my face. I watched it over and over and the reaction was always the same. I then started to watch all the other songs from this concert. Every one of them blew me away. I then delved into other concerts by them (Wembley, Tampete and more recently Buenes Aries). They are extremely addictive and have a wide repertoire, including symphonic metal, straight metal, Celtic folk, ballads. They are from Finland. The current singer (there have been 3) is Floor Jansen from The Netherlands. You will also find that they have an exceptionally rabid following (the Nightwish Army) who will bombard you with a host of information about the history of the band, further song recommendations, etc. It sounds like you are about to embark on the same journey I did almost two years ago. I look forward to joining you on what will be a hell of a ride. Until next time my friend, love from Scotland. Stay safe.

I absolutely loved this reaction. I relate so hard to your relationship with music and the different styles of it as well as its affect on you. I also relate to the instant love for Floor. Unfortunately, I have to tell you that she's probably gonna hit your emotions even harder with some of their other songs from other concerts. Tuomas is a mastermind composer and Floor never fails to deliver. I look forward to seeing more of your Nightwish journey!
Side note: I really liked your intro and that the sound levels of the video and your voice were balanced. Really appreciated that.

I can think of several reactors from a variety of backgrounds who immediately shed tears within a few measures of Floor's voice. It's the sound of girl who would sing her heart out just to get a good reactuon from a small audience standing in front of 80,000 people hanging on her every note. Pure joy in performance plus immense talent.

I have seen Nightwish perform hundreds of times. Yeah. Tears coming out of our eyes is expected with the Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen (Yansen). She does this on a super regular basis. Your reaction mirrors my first reaction to Nightwish. Floor is the third female lead vocalist in this band, and although Tarja, the first, was an operatic wonder, my personal preference is Flooor. Not only is she an incredible vocalist. Her stage presence is beyond spectacular. Loved your reaction to this terrific band. I can't wait to see them live at the Warfield in San Francisco on May 18th as a part of their May 2022 North America Tour.

Nightwish is from Finland, though their current singer (their third and best) is from the Netherlands. Her name is Floor Jansen and what you experienced is called a “Floorgasm.” From this same Wacken 2013 show I’d recommend Romanticide, Storytime, Song of Myself, Everdream and I Want My Tears Back. When you’re ready to be even more blown away than you were by this, watch their song The Greatest Show On Earth live at Tampere.

Nice reaction! This genre of music is called Symphonic Metal. FYI: There were 82,000+ in the audience that night. GLS is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' From the same concert. The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013. Also you would certainly get many more views and likely subscribes if you had 'Nightwish' in the videos titles.

I've been watching these Ghost Love Score reactions for a while now, but somehow yours touched my heart.
I don't remember the first time I heard Nightwish, sometime around the turn of the millennium, and I envy you that huge wave of emotion that overcame you when you heard GLS for the first time.
I've seen them live five times now, including in their home country, and I could have been that woman in the crowd that you paused on.
But here I am now, sitting in the UK surrounded by Covid19 and getting old and wondering if I'll ever get to stand in a crowd like that again, feel that energy and emotion and be a part of a collective human experience in that way ever again.
May you and all of us continue to be moved by the talent, skills and sheer artistry that these and other musicians bring to our lives.
It's a big part of what makes it worth living,

Hey, GOG, welcome to the Nightwish train! In case you haven't been forewarned, you are now on the radar of the Nightwish Army, lol! Glad you've discovered our passion! I've had the pleasure of seeing them live three times when they passed through the St. Louis area! Some others may have gone over most of this, but Nightwish are a primarily Finnish band, started in the mid-90s. They have had three lead singers. The original was Tarja Tarunen (pronounced Tar-ee-ah). This song was actually hers originally. She was the most classical/opera-oriented of the three. When she left, Nightwish branched outside of Finland, and added Swedish vocalist Annette Olzen, who had a more pop background. The current singer is the Dutch Goddess herself, Floor Jansen (formerly After Forever, Aryeon, Re-Vamp, Star One), who does it all! They've also got an Englishman in the band now, Troy Donockley, who plays flutes, pipes and various traditional folk instruments. While Floor is the main vocalist, bassist Marco Heitala and Troy Donockley both share some lead vocal duties (Troy sings lead on Harvest, one of the singles from the new album that came out a little over a week ago). As I mentioned, Ghost Love Score was originally sung by Tarja. If you want to check out one that is similarly epic and originally recorded by Floor, check out The Greatest on Earth, preferably the version recorded live in Tampere, Finland. It's a little over 21 minutes long (including the narration by Richard Dawkins at the end), and tells the story of and the history of the universe and life on earth. There are some great lead vocal trade-offs between Floor and Marco in that one! Again, welcome to the Nightwish Army!

I experienced chills, goosebumps, hair standing on end, and was just in a state of awe. She moved me to tears also in a good way and you too it seems. She has become my all time favorite singer and Nightwish is the band I would most like to see live. The only song and video I saw before this was with Tarja performing The Phantom of the Opera. For what ever reason even though their cover of that song was the best I had seen and heard, I didn't explore other music by them. But when I came across this one they became my favorite band and I have several CD's and DVDs. I recall another first reaction video of this one that he had a similar comment as you when he said this is my first time hearing of this band, why is it anyone's first time. He was in awe as well.

The "Wall of Sound" was created by Phil Spector in the 60's. Yeah, Floor not only is an astounding singer technically, but the WAY she sings produces an uncanny effect. She was on a Dutch TV music show (Floor is Dutch, btw) where she gave all the other participants on the show, the goosebumps and the feels. Great reaction. Subscribed and welcome to the Nightwish family. I echo Ken Manley's suggestion below that you add Nightwish - Ghost Love Score Reaction to the title of this video. You'll be inundated with the rest of the Nightwish Army! If you are obsessive about music then Nightwish is perfect for you. Once you enter that particular rabbit hole you'll never re-emerge. They have a myriad of absolutely outstanding live performances for you to react to and fall in love with. They are generally better to react to live rather than studio. There is something very special about them live! Wacken is in Germany and is the World's largest metal festival. At this concert there were 82,000 people there. Floor Jansen, the singer, was not even a member of the band at the time. She had replaced the previous singer mid way through the USA leg of their World Tour. She joined with 48 hrs notice to finish the tour. This was 10 months later towards the end of the tour after which she officially joined the band and is still their current singer. She is 6ft 1inch tall, from Holland and has had classical training.

Amazonian Goddess Floor Jansen (6'1" then add 3" heels), no singer on the planet can compare, I am in love and I"m probably older than you! :-) . When you get to "The Poet and the Pendulum", be sure to do some background research first as it is Tuomas's autobiographical take on a past episode with the band, (he's the genius behind nightwish and on keyboards). Floor's take will get you real emotional! Best version from Wembley with on screen lyrics. After checking out Floor with Nightwish, stop over to the 8 episodes of Beste Zangers 2019 that she was on, covers all genres: rock, opera, pop, and more, and in 4 languages! Couple will definitely bring the tears on. Enjoy! - PS - you're subscriber base is about to skyrocket - stick with Nightwish.

Wacken is a yearly open air festival in Germany, and in 2013 Nightwish were the main show and there was 82000 people in attendance. Floor is 6 foot 1.
Best method for reacting to Nightwish that I figured from watching reactors and discovering them recently and exploring their catalog myself:
Keep the particularly long and complex songs listed below, if you have not watched them already, for after you have seen all the more standard ones from the 4 live shows mentioned in the numbered list:
    - Ghost Love Score (Wacken) 10 minutes
    - The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) 14 minutes
    - Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) 21 minutes
1- Just do all the Wacken 2013 songs, they are all great
2- Then the Wembley 2015 ones that are not part of the Wacken show
3- Then the remaining songs from Tampere 2015 that were not in the previous 2 shows mentioned
4- Then the older songs from Buenos Aires 2019 that were not in the previous 3 shows mentioned
5- To see what they can do with a cover and if you like Marco's singing, watch their interpretation of Pink Floyd's High Hopes
5- Then you can explore Floor's versatility with her band ReVamp's live performances of the songs Disdain at Graspop and Wild Card at Bloodstock
6- And finally go in the deep end of the Floor talent pool by reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers in the order the episodes aired
From watching a lot of reactions, in my opinion this is the most efficient order to discover the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen.
That should keep you busy for a while. 😀

I have tears in my eyes every time I watch this performance and am always eager for the reaction to the last couple of minutes of vocals!!

I just found out about Nightwish about a month ago. At the tender age of 57, I decided it was high time to do a teensy bit of exploration into stuff I didn't know. I HAD listened to Dio and bought some of those records YEARS ago, and liked it. But to me, most Metal sounded like someone strapped microphones to Harrier Jet engines and let them rip. I just wasn't interested, it put me right off.
But then Metallica was getting back into gear again, and James is close to my age and I couldn't believe how great he sounded, how great the band sounded. SO I started hunting up Metallica vids. And found some other stuff in my recommends. I found Bloodywood, which is an Indian Metal band that I really like, and The Hu!!!! Oh, I LOVE The HU!!!! And then, one day, a Nightwish vid ( I think it was Elan) popped up. WWWAAAAMMMMMM!!!!!! It was like being hit in the head with a cast iron skillet, and usually only Springsteen and The E Street Band can do that to me. My inner 14 yr old girl has been walking into walls, tripping over furniture and dropping things on her feet ever since. She is bereft of coherent speech, poor girl. But she is smiling, oh, she's smiling.
