I love Woolie's ability to condense a subject into a very strong tagline. "Stop being you, go be me" is the strongest way to describe that situation that I've ever heard.

God that bit from Pat about parents not understanding when the world has changed around them hits hard.
For years when I was unemployed, my parents kept saying "Just walk into random businesses around town and tell the manager you want a job" because when they were my age that's what you did. They were travelling around Australia in a caravan and funding their trip by walking into stores and going "Hey I'm in town for the next week can I have a job?" and it worked. I tried to explain that any major business these days has you go through their website and your resume gets read by a robot and maybe if it gets past that you'll get a call eventually if they have a job for you, but if you bother them at any point you get immediately put in the DO NOT HIRE pile for not following the process and they were just like "Nah that can't be true, just do it! Keep bothering the in-store manager and taking them away from their job!"

    • @dwarfminerwillie
      @dwarfminerwillie 4 года назад +20

There is a huge problem of boomers loosing the job they've had for 20-30 years and entering the job market once more only to find that uh oh it takes 10x more effort to to actually get a job than it was when they were young.

Idk man, the spectrum for jobs is pretty wide. Closest I ever came was my dad telling me once "You know, if you ever get the chance, Latina women REALLY know how to party and they're usually pretty easy to get along with" when I was 12 or so and somehow the topic of dating came up. At the time I was like "...I'll keep that in mind?" and then forgot about it. But this has made me realize that my best friend in the past decade is a latina woman who... most certainly knows how to party.
    Hm.

Like, those stereotypes exist for a reason. It’s just you have other things apart of the individual personalities of people along side the stereotype stuff. It’s why EVERYONE has family that says “get this type of girl” and so on. But they usually say that based on the people they knew in the area they grew up with and their is a difference to say a Latina girl from like, Los Angles and a girl who grew up and was actually from Mexico.

    • @RipOffProductionsLLC
      @RipOffProductionsLLC 2 года назад +3

My mom was... weird... with her approach to my socialization...
She was a believer in the whole "kids get fucked up by media" thing, and thus limited my TV and movie exposure, not based on age rating, but on what was most easily imitateable; Conan the Barbarian? Predator? Yup that fine, little kid has 0 access to swords or guns, so he can't copy that, who cares if it's rated R.
Power Rangers? Forbidden, they use punches and kicks, and every child has those.
Rugrats? Also forbidden, as they have horrible grammar, and are thus bad examples for kids.
And then there was that time she tried to make me go to church, not because she was a believer herself, but because of the benefits you can extract out of your church community, "you can force anyone to do anything you want them to as long as you know the right Bible quote to say at them." was what she told me to try and get me engaged into Bible study... but that actually made me disgusting by it

You don’t want improvements, you don’t care about the fact the previous games were better and you have more invested in those games, it’s going to fucking cost 70 dollars now, your paying even more for less and your not admitting you have an actual addiction. Cause this is literally how drug dealers get people in.

My dad even went so far as saying “I'll kill myself before I go to aged care.” I'm poor and mentally ill too, so I'm basically being told to waste away my life to be their caretaker simply because they didn't have any foresight with their money. I think this misses the point about why parents act the way they do. They can only work from the perspective of what has worked so far at the moment you were born. They don't know if the trends set today will carry to tomorrow, because they themselves have seen so many trends and fads left by the wayside. I can't blame my parents for trying to get me to stop playing games while in K-12 they were genuinely trying to prepare me for the world based on their personal failures and successes. That doesn't excuse their shortsightedness or refusal to understand, but it at least explains their perspective. Now that I'm an adult with a job and bills to pay, I can say I understand why my parents acted the way they did and they were right in a lot of aspects, but I still play games 8+ hours a day on my days off.

    • @UltimaKeyMaster

It's not exactly the general parenting thing, it's the parents that are 100% asshats about it that act like total hypocrites.
It's the age-old example of parents telling their kids to quit playing video games while at the same time parking their asses on the couch endlessly watching Law and Order all night falling asleep to it. *Of fucking course* people like Woolie are going to be like "yo what the fuck man" because it's rightfully hypocritical to tell a media consumer their consuming is trash and going off to consume some other media in exactly the same fashion at exactly the same time not actually doing anything productive themselves.
It's literally only because the hobby has the word "game" in the title they think it's only meant for little kids or something stupid, or if it's remotely fantasy in another media's setting and not realistic.
tl;dr: Parents do have reasons why they act the way they do, but the parents that unironically trash their kids for playing video games when their off-the-clock media consumption is just as unproductive can fuck right off.

Current teams with current players are released and as a fan of the sport and the actual players, that has appeal. Plus, updated graphics and hardware means the scope is improved in various ways. It's the same thing as buying games with cute or cool fantasy characters, even if the gameplay itself is basically the same as the previous iteration. Honestly, as a Zelda fan, I have no right to talk. It was the same characters, the same gameplay, and the same story for a long time. Just slightly updated and shinier looking. Only the most recent one had a real overhaul in gameplay and story.

went to see a judge my dad knew and now my life after 10 years in court system in fucked and now im forced to live a life of the neckbeard who lives with his mom because i cant get a job because of a record and everyone around here thinks im a psycopath and all because everyone in the system failed to notice a deadbeat father who only used his son for money when he couldnt make him live the way he wanted. fuck you dad i never want to see you again.

the tittle straight up sounds like a normal comment on tumblr/twitter, where if your not like them you are a problem.

This is especially fucked because it's not the option of "hey, if you do this you'll get rekt", it's "It's my responsability to get EVERYONE to say and do what I like". People like that don't think they're right, they KNOW they are and there is no nuance to it. Like the whole thing with Naganuma on twitter recently. Everyone, literally everyone, knew it was a joke. A badly told joke, but a joke nonetheless. And people STILL pestered him and badgered him and threatened to do _something_ to him if he didn't make it completely evident it was. "Please say sike" but completely serious.

Now imagine all this, but you can’t talk to them about anything in meaningful detail because they think normal human dialogue between people that understand words, is condescending/ being specific “narrow minded”
You can’t compete with that level of self deception

I remember one night, coming back home after working in the Montreal Metro, we were talking about games and shit and this guy starts harassing us for speaking english. And I'm like "Dude, I'm french canadian, we're talking in english cause these other guys aren't great at french and we'Re having a fucking conversation"
What I'm saying is, there are language racists on both sides and it sucks. Can't we just all be wonderfully multi-lingual?

4:00 the only valid interest to make fun of (you know aside from gross illegal bullshit) is the interest in making fun of others interest.

This is why I want to introduce my kids to shit when I have them.
Like I want to spend time with my kid and do shit with them that I personally enjoy, but I don't want to feel like I'm forcing them to be a new game +. Like I don't want to live vicariously through them, but I want to have those moments where it's like my kid has X that I didn't have when I was younger and I'm proud of them/ Glad they have something that I didn't.

It’s kinda weird that Woolie doesn’t get he does this.
“Hey Stop doing what you’re doing, and do what I would do.
(I know you don’t want money,)
(I know you think you know what’s best,)
(I know you think this will be enough,)
    (I know you’re a Wallstreet capitalist asshole,)
(I know you do things you’re own way for really dumb reasons,)
    (Etc etc)
but shut the fuck up and do what I want you to do.”
