Great video! Holy Diver is definitely a killer 80’s pickup! I used to like the BKP Painkiller a little better for its EQ curve for my taste. But as of now I’m currently using my signature Alchemist humbucker from Voodoo custom pickups in most my guitars and I still have a handful of Seymour Duncan’s in my other guitars. Mostly the JB, Full Shred, Custom 5 (SH-14) the SH-10 George Lynch screaming demon, Nazgul, and Omega.

Seymour Duncan JB has been my favorite for a while because it's sound is unmistakably "80s", but i have a Holy Diver in my PRS DC594 and was thinking how much "heavier" it sounded compared to the JB in my other SC594. The biggest thing are leads and clean sounds. I was playing the riff to Under the Bridge (which of course was done on a strat) on my DC594 and the Holy Diver actually had strattyish clarity. I tried the same on my 594 with the JB and I was really underwhelmed with the cleans. I may just swap the JB out for another Holy Diver. It would probably pair great with the SD 59 in the neck too. That actually has really nice cleans.

This is the first video I’ve seen in literally dozens of videos of kids bashing on 7-strings with a jackhammer, or shredding on already high-gain amps, dimed (as if they were Marshalls). There’s not one video that I know short of this, that shows riffing, or God forbid some power chords, on gain levels that would be considered “super-crunch”, at this point. So, major kudos for the fact that you get it. *My question, as far as this video goes, is what’s causing the shrillness? Is that the amp, or is the pickup voiced that way? The clarity and note-separation is great, but it’s sounds thin.* I’ve got NO problem with paying the money (not to mention the wait coming from the U.K.), but until now I’ve not seen a BKP pickup gear towards all the killer tones we love from the late 70’s & 80’s. I’m all-but convinced to stay with my Tone-Zone, or JB, at this point. Thanks again for sharing!

    • @shredaintdead9323

    Fantastic...
But there's something with the spectrum sound:
When the BK opens up treble and bass something happens to the mids where you lose in the mix with a band
That's what the JB DOES, it has a perfect mid frequency that you cannot miss in the mix
BK sounds beautiful alone, but how about in a mix?

So that orients us to get a very similar tone from the Seymour Duncan SH14, from the custom family which are 14k DC resistance or so
Instead of comparing the "modern" JB
Bare knuckle pickups have something different than Duncans the same way as Lollars, I dunno what but they are louder. As far as I've played with them, and as I grew up with Seymour stuff, I prefer them since EACH of them are UNIQUE, they are not the same pickup from the same model. The new JB feels overloaded but that doesn't mean you have more power or clarity, instead you have a very mid projection you can't find in any other pickup in the market.
Well, I liked what I heard from the Holy Diver demos but not enough to change my JB for one of them, and it doesn't have anything to do with the extra bucks you pay for them; you have for the bottle of wine and so the cups...

@@shredaintdead9323 I think I'll give it a try. I have a new Schecter E-1 apocalypse purple and is swamp ash body set maple neck with ebony fretboard and I was thinking in a JB to make 5his guitar screams mids, but clarity would be such an amazing tone if you can open up air in the pickup response with a Holy Diver... that would be my ticket to get one of them; I'll try both anyway to decide which one fits better for soloing works.

I just picked up a Charvel wiyh the HOLY DIVER in it. What is the suggested pock up height?
I hear that can make or break a bare knuckle.
Gotta be honest, I am extrenely underwhelmed.
It doesnt push amps or pedals at all, sounds weak.

I have those in my charvel dk24. Also great, but Holydiver is much better in my opinion. If you want a good clean channel and something that can get good 80s and modern tones go with the lbx stealth.
