@@sezja I'm sure your hair is not as bad as you think it is or as bad as other people have made you feel about it. The real problem here is the actions of the people who are teasing you over it, not your hair.
You'll get much further in life with "bad" hair than a bad personality/attitude.
It's okay if you don't like it right now, but I hope one day you'll be able to love your hair, whether it's because it changed or because you accepted the state it's in at the time.

I now have a self-made mullet, with huge chunks on each side of my hair about 5 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. The only way I can hide it is with a ponytail, but ponytails can also break off hair as well. I get that! I'm on a journey to healthy hair at the moment - cutting off the damaged bits, and trying to maintain/support the hair that is healthy/growing. But IT IS HARD! I can't do whatever hairstyles I want because my hair breaks off, or it will add to the damage. And i don't feel attractive with my hair in this transition state.
I literally had dream last night that someone cut off all my damaged hair, and my hair was thinner + around mid-neck length (it used to be around my bra strap).
To top it all off, I'm dating someone who is Asian and he definitely does not understand the hair struggles (he has long and beautiful hair.. and all he does is wash it and live on - no products or anything), and the challenges between healthy vs. damaged hair + it's effect on a person.
I send him photos and try to explain - it's all I can really do to help him understand.
@IsabelleDemarko, this video is what I feel, and so well put.

IMME I know for me, my hair falls out in .. well clumps when I’m really stressed. So basically, all school year, and then since I work, my stress levels didn’t go down. This quarantine, I finally had no school or work. And I have been massaging my scalp when I wash it, trying to drink more water between meals, sleeping 8hrs, and just doing things that make me happy. I went from losing 100s of strands while washing my hair alone, to maybe about 5. HUGE DIFFERENCE. All this to say, try to prioritize yourself (physically + mind, soul). Relax, continue with your healthy habits, and add in some head massages too (if someone else can do it for you, even better!). Good luck! ♥️

People always tell me to just “learn to love it” and “why do you care so much?” but also have the nerve to constantly comment on how it looks and tell me to “brush it”. I was so insecure that i’ve been getting keratin straightening treatment, which cost a lot of money and doesn’t even look that good, for the past seven years and now my hair is basically dead. But on the positive side, I’m so glad i found your videos, you help me get over my dream of having straight hair because that is never gonna happen because my hair is fucking wavy, which i’m learning to love, and learn how to properly take care of it. Also seeing your hair getting prettier every video makes me feel like i’m not a lost cause. Mine is getting better too but damn it takes forever lol sorry for the rant. Okey, so here's my personal issue with hair and mental health:
4 years ago when I was 18 I decided to *shave my hair* off. But it wasn't a well informed or thought through decision, I just did it because I was obsessing over my own hair at that time.
I would constantly cut it to check if both sides were even, constantly would snip at my fringe until it got shorter and shorter in order to "even it out" and one day I just decided that enough was enough, so I shaved it off and my parents were devistated. I remindend my mom of her mom that she lost due to cancer and I realised that I should never have done it.
People at school were giving me looks and even my teachers were talking about me behind my back - like seriously?! My self esteem had never been high anyway but from that point onward it just went downhill.
Ever since then I've been trying to grow my pixie out, all I've ever dreamt of was long flowy and wavy hair with a nice center parting - but I'm literally the furthest from it. I'm about to turn 23, freaking 23, and I *still* struggle with weird hair obssessions (OCD, maybe) I can just never NOT stare at other peoples cool hairdo's and worry about my own. After years I've finally put down the scissors, I no longer have any urge to hack away at my hair in distress and since then it's been growing, slowly but surely and I am the happiest I've ever been!!!! :)
I didn't even remember what it felt like to put my hair up into a ponytil and it's seriously such a nice thing to do, I love playing around with different hairstyles at my bob lenght, though I'm still struggling with the short weird bangs, but we're getting there.
Soon this will all be over and I can hopefully look back at this valuable lesson I learned - for me it is absolutely not "just" hair and it never will be.
Thank you sooo so much for your video! I finally feel heard and understood :)
Sending you *sooo much love* from Germany

I had the same problem. For a few years, I could not get rid of it. For me it was about trying different hair shampoos till my friend recommended me smt that worked, but also adding products like conditioners/volumizing mousses/hair sprays that helped me tame them. It is a journey, bcs not everyone has the same hair type and it takes time. I’m 20 now and my hair is lot better than it was before, the frizz botters me a little if any. Do your research, there is also shampoos for frizzy hair (even tho they are often pricy). Or ask your mom/friends for help. That’s how it started for me :) Hope this helped guys, I know what you’re going through. Good luck!

Now that I know I'm not the only one, Here's my story:
I always had long luscious pin straight hair up until I was 12 it was that way then I moved to a new school, in a different city the water there caused my hair to fall out a lot. Things were manageable till then but then the girls in my class and even the teachers began asking me why I straighten my hair, that my hair looked faux, it made my face look chubby and so on. All this made me want to fit in and I began curling my hair, I started using heat on my hair while it was still wet most of the times without a heat protectent and due to high school my sleep cycle was horrible, I hardly slept for 5 hours, wouldn't eat proper meals and this went on till the beginning of junior year. It was then that I realised my hair was all fried out, dry, oily scalp, dandruff, I had a constant urge to itch my hair, dull and I had premature greying. Cut to senior year I now take biotin supplements, sleep for 7 hours, drink 3L of water, oil my hair regularly and wash it twice a week, Stopped using shampoo and conditioner(using shika-kai, which is a natural shampoo it contains soap nut in it) , and have completed stopped using heat. It's a lot healthier now.
If you're reading this and deal with the same issues, trust me it's gets better, a little care, faith and oiling will undo it. It will take time, but it's worth it.

My hair wasn't really feeling me during high school. I washed it everyday sometimes twice a day and always used heat. Bleached my hair every six weeks. No wonder it was dry, frizzy and oily 🤦

I worked as a hairdresser for four years, and whenever a client would feel self conscious or apologise for being “picky” (their words, not mine!) about their hair, I’d feel awful. You have to wear your hair all the time. You don’t get to take it off and choose a different head of hair, the way you would with an outfit or with make up. If something is important to you, no matter what it is, it is important!

I'm going to try flaxseed gel soon - hopefully it will make them more defined and last longer. Hair is really important, it's a way to express yourself, feel confident and can have religious and cultural meaning, saying hair is just hair is technically true but to many it's more than just that

    • @tiffanylovesu2638
      @tiffanylovesu2638 4 года назад +8

Wavy hair is always a challenge. For today i am a YEAR on CGM, but yet I do not fully understand how to manage my hair. And that is okay, but some times very frustrating. I think the most important for waves is styling and conditioning. And if you have long hair you need to separate it on sections when washing upside down
, because when you stand up it is a total mess.

I have wavy hair as well and go through the same problem. Try adding water mixed with a little bit of leave in conditioner. Put it in a spray bottle and get your hair damp and scrunch. This helps me quite a bit. You can also just use water and add a tiny bit of gel to scrunch.

I have had hairloss since I was 12 and I can really vouch for all of this because your teenage years are already so hard, and you already don't feel comfortable in your own body. I hated going out, I hated people seeing me, I would rarely leave my bedroom if I had the choice. I have depression and while my hair is not why i have depression, it definitely played a crucial role. I only realised how much of a role it played when my therapist explained that over my teenage years, I let my hair control my body image, so as the years went on and the thinner it got, the more i hated how i looked and consequently myself. I now also have body dysmorphia so when people tell me "it's just hair", it makes me feel more isolated than I usually do. Your hair matters and you deserve to feel pretty and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I get this so much. I've always had curly hair, but it was easy to deal with until I turned 13, and then it got frizzier and bigger, and suddenly it was just a huge unmanageable mess. "Treatments" didn't help, so I didn't get why my hair was technically healthy and looking this bad. I didn't feel like another "curly girl", I just felt like a mess. I tried different things, including the curly girl method, and it helped but I still didn't feel like I had control over it. So I just got frustrated looking at tutorials thinking they would never work for me. Then during quarantine I decided to give it another go, and found the Manes by Mell youtube channel. I swear this isn't and ad lol but that channel changed my life. Knowing how to properly apply product on wet hair, how to manually define the curls, how to protect them, etc. It's still a work in progress, but now I don't feel so completely lost anymore.
It's hard to get structured advice on how to care for your hair. A lot of what's online is so opinion and personal experience based, and there's a lot of "this habit is why your hair looks bad and you don't even realise it", or "try this thing and all will be fixed". Turns out solutions are never simple. It takes hard work and you have to believe it's worth it, even though people may say it's stupid to care so much.

You're back!!! I can't believe how much your hair has grown, it looks much healthier and thicker already compared to when you had it waist length! Embrace the progress you've made and on those bad days, have a good cry and then carry on the good work! Xx

I feel that's the whole point of YT. I won't discuss my hair struggles with family, friends or coworkers for the reasons you mentioned or for not wanting to bore them to death. but I can go to YT to see if someone is having the same issues and what they are doing about it.
If hair is not your struggle, then great, skip the video 🤷🏾‍♀️

I am SO happy you made this video. It's so important to talk about. I've been struggling with my hair for years and I obsess over it. Its part of my identity.
But last year my partner started experiencing hair loss as was diagnosed with alopecia. It's been affecting him so negatively and he has become so self conscience about it. I feel so bad and wish I could help him, especially when people ask him about it as if they find it strange.
I wish people would just leave other people's hair alone, as it isn't part of their life, and they don't know other people's struggles. Hair is attached to us, and therefore affects us in both positive and negative ways.

Literally every single thing in the world can have an affect on someone’s mental health. Hair is just hair when you have healthy hair and maybe you got a bad hair cut or color but no one discredits someone suffering from hair loss or religious ties to hair. Not to be dry but western culture is dramatic as eff. I personally felt some type of way about my “big chop” to the point where I didn’t take pictures... but then i was like... wow G, there are legit worst things in the world than short curly hair.
Edit: people have talked about a reason why not to be happy about hair. Black women. Who for centuries were taught to believe that coils were ugly and straight hair was beautiful but no one listened to them when they wanted to address that problem 10 years ago.

i always had really frizzy hair and my friends teased me about it, that's why i always get my hair straightened. and now that my old hair is coming back, everyone's teasing me about it again. i just really hate my hair :'((
i dont know what to do with it anymore...i always try to hide my hair by putting it in a ponytale or other hairstyles. but i just had enough of it...its really annoying and i get so frustrated because of it. i dont know what to do with my hair :'((

Im very sorry to hear that you feel very upset about your hair. I myself cannot relate to your experience though I can say that my sister, whom had very curly hair always striaghtened it to the point where it was damaged and frizzy. She had struggled with her hair for awhile and was pretty upset. Though she eventually accepted her frizzy hair, stopped damaging it with heat and repaired her hair into thick beautiful curls :). If I may recommend, I wish you luck in your road to accepting and healing your beautiful hair. ❤❤❤

the only thing i can suggest would be to look up curly hair care and start caring for it differently. that's what I had to do and it has helped a lot.

My hair is very similar to yours and the ONLY way I can keep it long, shiny and healthy is to have Brasil Cacau keratin treatment done every 6 months. I’ve been doing it for six years now and not to brag but everyone is crazy about my hair. People are stopping me on the street to ask me what kind of conditioner/mask do I use. I have finally gained self confidence :) It changed my life.
(A lot of salon is using some other type of keratin which can damage the hair. The original Brazilian one is the best!)

Florassy I’m aware that it CAN damage hair, I’m a bioengineer. But people with bleached hair (like me) can definitely benefit from keratin treatments as the cysteine in it can (semi-)permanently repair broken bonds in our hair.
Btw I had a break from it for more than 1,5 years and my hair was still nice and shiny, but got back to wavy after 7 or 8 months. It does work for some people, however I agree that not for everyone.

Edit: my anxiety made me chop off 10 inches of my hair.
I look fine and I love my hair more than anything in me,46 inches long hair ! But my too much hair fall, tangled hair, thin ends, no hair volume, and thin braid(my hair is quite thick but hair fall made it thin) makes me so anxious and affects my mental health too.
No matter how calm I be, take good food use remedies it won't stop.

I started using less damaging products for my hair in an attempt to keep it healthier. I absolutely hate how my hair looks some days and it can really bring me down. and other days it can make my mood 200% better.
that said I'm cutting off like a good 10cm off next month because the ends just tangle 3 seconds after I run my brush through them because they're so damaged. I have no idea how it'll look, and I'm a little scared, but it's what I need to do.

I had almost waist length hair at the start of the year which I loved and was very happy with. After a disastrous bleach fail that left me unable to brush through my hair... I cut it all off. Phrases like 'it's just hair' or people telling me it'll grow back, even if it is true, don't really help and have made me feel like I'm not allowed to feel frustrated and sad about my current hair because 'it's just hair'. I know the way things are now aren't permanent but it's still difficult to deal with, I don't feel comfortable or confident with this hair no matter how hard I try.
Thank you for making this video, you explained so well all the different emotions and view points that go along with this topic

I think my hair has ruined my mental health too!
My hair has this nasty wavy curl to it, where the top layer of hair is super frizzy and the ends are dry and the roots are oily.
There was this day I tried doing curls in my hair but because my hair was SO GOOD at keeping its discusting shape it was impossible to curl it after I straightened it. I tried burning the ends of my hair off by keeping the straightener there for a minute and for some reason they didn't burn and my hair was intact and that made me even more furious.
My parents didn't even help with the issue which makes this a whole lot worse. They just sat there calling me mental and saying I deserved being in a mental asylum.

    • @lanycera
      @lanycera 4 года назад

You should consider going to psychologist and I really do mean this. Obsessing that much over hair (while we all do it to a degree) and ruining your mental health over it, means you might need help. And instead of ruining it with a straightener and burning it almost off, you should consider a Keratin straightening treatment. It's not healthy for your hair, but it can only be better than straightening it every single day or losing your sanity over it. Also make sure you have no Zinc or iron deficiency, and take care of it with good products (no sulphates), hydrating masks and maybe even try the CGM. Just see what works for you...

Thanks, I have been fixing it with CGM over quarantine it looks much nicer now! I have also gotten rid of the urge to straighten it too. It’s still not the way I want it exactly, but I think it’s much better than it was before
