I saw this video, clicked on it and instantly breathed out a long breath as if all my stress left my body. Thank you for this beautiful space you've created. Love you xxx
@@Barbara2.0 now you are making me mouche hahaha (don’t know if that’s a word but now it is hahaha)🥺🥺🥺 in Starkid’s words: “this must be how it feels to have a home”
Priceless was my least favorite on the album, but after seeing the live performance I love it. Just listening to it, it seems too cheesy and kitschy. But Joey and Lauren’s performance is unabashedly corny, genuinely goofy and lovey, and it works so well for the Cratchets who are meant to be stupidly content and down with Christmas.
God, I adore this show so much. I wasn't so keen on it when I first saw the 2020 version, but it's grown on me substantially over time and is one of my absolute favorite Starkid productions now.
I was subscribed to Amazon Music for many months, and the only thing I used it for was listening to this soundtrack. It wasn’t available on anything else I had
Turkey Boy (on the screen) is Ali Gordon, who originated Turkey Boy on the soundtrack you listened to. She appeared in Starkid Homecoming and was one of the really old-school Starkids, appearing in their second RUclips musical.
@Barbara 2.0 "Turkey Boy" is played by Ali Gordon who played Vanessa in "Me and My Dick." She came back to sing her part in the "Starkid Homecoming" Concert. She was announced on the Cast List for Jangle Ball this year, so I'm hoping we'll get a Live Turkey Boy this year! Also, was I right? Isn't Janaya the best? When I watched this for the first time on Digital Ticket last year and Janaya began to sing in "That Scrooge," my jaw dropped. Janaya's Vocal Range is CRAZY. "That Scrooge" is still my favorite song on the album. Especially with Janaya singing it. Janaya makes this song for me. This Live version of "That Scrooge" is, currently, my favorite Starkid Song of all time. "Priceless" is my second favorite song on the album. Easily Lauren Lopez's best Starkid song. The only other time I've heard her sound this good was in Firebringer. However, "Priceless" blows all the Firebringer songs out the water, in my opinion. That being said, there isn't a bad song on the album. Clark outdid himself with this one. Every song on this album is, what the kids these days would call, "a banger." "A VHS Christmas Carol Live" is, probably, my favorite Starkid Production of all time right now. Second only to Twisted. Coincidence that my top two Starkid Productions are the ones that star Dylan Saunders? Yes. But not surprising. Third would be "AVP Senior Year" and fourth would be "Black Friday."
I’m going to see the Jangle Ball concert today where they’re doing a restaging of VHS Christmas Carol! So excited and now I get to watch this as further prep!
It's impossibe to stay still when Christmas Electricity is on. As for it being short, I think it's weirdly perfect because it gets in and out without letting the energy dip. Priceless is my least favourite too (though there are no bad songs) but it's little reprise at the end always gets me. The transition from that song to the ghost of Christmas future is one my favourite little bits. Also this is one of the few Christmas Carol tellings that got me invested in Belle, it often seems to be brushed over so fast. Anyway sorry for the long comment.
I loved this show so much, the first time I watched it I watched it immediately again after finishing lol Everyone is so good in this. I also love how they lean into the cheesiness of Priceless with their performance 😂
So I bought the soundtrack in 2020, watched the Zoom stream, and got virtual live tickets last year. My kids are living the starkid childhood and I'm so proud. My 8 year old knows the entire dance for "I'm the Ghost" and is working on "Christmas Electricity". It's safe to say we're obsessed haha. I always love your reactions!!
I saw them perform this live in Boston last night. It was opening night of the jangle ball tour. They did songs from older songs too. It was in concert form like homecoming. My daughter that I was a dork because I was like Lauren Lopez is in that building. Jaime lyn did “it is time to DIIIEEEEEEEEE!! She’s amazing. The audience was saying join us and die. It was epic.
The set is the set of the LA Production of "Rock of Ages" in the actual Bourbon Room in LA. That production was running up until the pandemic, and I believe now they just rent that room for other productions, just with the RoA set
I was lucky enough to get tickets to the jangle ball tour when they went to my city and saw this live... literally heart eyes the whole time it was INCREDIBLE!!
So I've watched several of your Starkid show reactions. And I first saw this musical last Christmas, and I've been listening to the soundtrack over and over for a month....but I only just found your reaction to the soundtrack yesterday!!! Then I saw on one of your replies to a comment that you were going to have another Starkid reaction today and I knew it was going to be to the full show recording and I can't even describe how excited I was!!!! I love your reactions to musicals I love, it just makes me so excited for them all over again! Keep going Barbara! 💜💜💜
Priceless is my favorite, it just has that pure 80s sound to me and the way Joey and Lauren perform it is just... I love it. I didn't listen to the soundtrack first so my first experience was from the live show recording
I love this show! I was lucky enough to see it live and I got to see it the night they were filming, so I’m in the audience in this video! :D It was such a good show and before the show started I even got to go up on stage with AJ Holmes to play a game, and I briefly met Jaime Lynn Beatty after the show (when I tell you I was FREAKING OUT omg, internally I was screaming like HOLY SHIT SHES STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO ME AND WE ARE IN A CONVERSATION OKAY BE COOL BE COOL BE COOL). For real one of the best nights of my life, I’m honestly so grateful I got to go. I love your channel, keep doing what you’re doing!
also shoutout to Janaya (Esmerelduhhh_) sweetest person alive, my comfort person. @ Barbara you should watch one of her twitch streams, she's like a golden bean hahaha
Funny you should say that. Ghost of Christmas Future was Clark's homage to "Total Eclipse of The Heart." That's why Jamie Burns was lit the way she was when she made her entrance with the bright projected light on the screen and filtered smoky light on her. It was meant to evoke the scene from the Music Video where Bonnie Tyler is backlit by a really bright light being filtered by a latticed window behind her. It's also why Jamie was wearing a big 80's Hair Wig and all white. However, I can't speak to Priceless. Though, it wouldn't surprise me if Clark used ABBA for inspiration for that.
i only saw vhs christmas carol live when it was like 6 hours after it was posted. i loved priceless, mainly because of the lyrics. yes, its cheesy, but i loved it. just a family happy and celebrating christmas even if they are poor and struggling.
One of my favorite movies as a kid was called "Scrooge" starring Albert Finney which was a musical. You should check it out since you are a fan of A Christmas Carol!
When I saw a VHS Christmas Carol Live was on RUclips I screamed and watched it two times in a row. Now I love watching people react and being as excited as me hihihih :)
woooo was waiting for this one for a whole year, lol, watched last years live performance and watched barbs reaction to OST, now full reaction woooo, watching immediately
I'm so happy you decided to react to the live show as well as the cast recording. I love this show so much. I listened to the music throughout the whole year and couldn't wait for it being on RUclips. I also was curious if you'd point out the same things as in your first reaction (I'm not sure how often it happened, but in That Scrooge, there were some parts). I have watched the other reaction so many times that whenever I listen to the soundtrack, sometimes your comments come to my mind at the right time. One more question: Did you read the Christmas Carol by now? Because if I remember correctly, you said last year that you never read it, which was part of the reason why you didn't understand the Bah Humbug! part, but this time you seemed to understand. (I only have read the book, and seen two stage productions (VHS and one other), so I don't know if it appears in any film adaptation)
I haven't read the book yet but also don't remember it in any movie or stage adaptation. I think they tend to ignore it because most adaptations tend to be more serious/less comical, which makes me like the originality of this one even more
I never heard the album, didn't know about the show till it dropped to YT but I've been listening excessively for weeks. Even managed to get my Scrooge housemate to admit it was pretty okay :p It's funny seeing that the studio recording of Priceless wasn't necessarily a favourite for some people, but since I first experienced it as part of the live show, it grabbed my heartstrings like crazy and shot to the top spot for me. When Scrooge says "No Bob, your priceless ." I cry in the supermarket ❤️
Saw This On RUclips On November 30 I Loved It. My Favorite Team Starkid's/Tin Can Brother's Are Joe Walker, Joey Richter, Jaime Lyn Beatty, And Darren Criss.
Not a favorite of theirs, but I'm here just for Starkid, so I'm happy. Can hardly wait for you to react to the rest of Nightmare Time. It just gets better and more convoluted. The lore is fantastic and the format of those productions is great!
@@Barbara2.0 AJ Holmes did Book of Mormon on Broadway! He's the guy who plays Fezziwig in VHS Christmas Carol and Gilderoy Lockhart in AVPSY. He's TOP NOTCH
React to Little White Lie!!! ooooh and Edgar allen poe's murder mystery party from Shipwreck, it's not a music filled series but it's soooo funny and it's definitely something you'd like!
Also: I was about to say something about Priceless being your least favorite song (because on the cast recording it was my first favorite song, though that changes), but then again there has to be a least favorite song and when there are only absolutely great songs in the show, the least favorite must be extremely good too.
i just found your channel and i enjoy seeing your reactions to these musicals that i’ve loved for years! i reccomend watching Black Friday from Starkid because its got a really interesting plot where it works on a different timeline to TGWDLM as well as The Solve It Squad from TinCan Bros because i really find it such a silly knockoff of scooby doo
Okay so now you need to go watch Nightmare Time 2. My favorite episodes are "honey queen" and "perky's buds". Both star lauren lopez. Then dylan saunders is a main character in honey queen and then he plays a really funny (but not so important) side character in perky's buds. Either way, go watch Nightmare Time 2.
Britney did play Belle in the original 2020 iteration (and on the album) but the Belle in the 2021 live performances were by a different actress named Janaya!
this the only show that they had done I wish they expand more in subsequent iterations. Because this is a great show in paper yet underwhelming in production and unimaginative in lyrics…
I saw this video, clicked on it and instantly breathed out a long breath as if all my stress left my body. Thank you for this beautiful space you've created. Love you xxx

"Ball and chain" is a playfully(?) derrogative term for spouse. Not sure if you have the term in the U.K.
True, but it also has a nice double meaning here, since Scrooge's regret over Belle is likely part of the "chains he wears"
