    I love...love the way the flute and clarinet talk to each other back and fourth in this piece and the way the flautist at 1:17 expresses the response...amazing.

    Stunning. Every phrase is thought-out, individually profiled, delicately brought together. Listen to the shift in weight to the first beat in the strings near the end; the lower horn parts staying in balance. And quite to the contrary, nothing is on auto-pilot. It must have been thrilling to sit in the violas and listen to those wind solos.

    This performance is absolutely amazing! But I dislike the note that is held longer than usual by Andreas Ottensamer at 1:42. To me, it tears up the motion of the part that leads back into the main theme. Jarvi's interpretation of this piece, to me, is subpar, but the performance is absolutely outstanding, nonetheless!

    @atomicmrpelly Speaking as a conductor, the Nehru jacket is actually a lot less obtrusive than tails. The Nehru has less "moving parts"- so the conductor's movement is obstructed much less than with tails (and there is much less extraneous visual noise). It may seem like some sort of weird "fad", but the Nehru is actually preferable to many conductors for many practical reasons! Cheers!

    @atomicmrpelly Different strokes, I suppose! Do you really think the Nehru is too informal, though? I have never heard that opinion before, actually! But we digress...the performance is wonderful, regardless of the attire. If I could dress in tails and be half the musician Jarvi is, I would- and if I could dress in a Nehru jacket and be half the musician Jarvi is, I would too.

    @ctfamily40
    I'm sorry but I'm also a conductor and I just disagree completely! If you are concerned about comfort then go on stage in your dressing gown and slippers! The instrumentalists ought to be exerting themselves far more than the conductor (Dudamels aside) and they manage just fine!
    And a white shirt is not visually distracting in the least, it draws your attention to the conductor's centre and reflects light onto his face. That's why white tie & tails has remained popular for so long!
