    Quarterwave transmission line? maybe a horned T-line if the port end is bigger than the cone area. I believe transmission lines have a transient response second only to a sealed box, very responsive, flat bandwidth and a 12db/octave roll off. from what i've heard, people say that once they've heard one for themselves they never go back to normal ported boxes. only downfall is the shear size of the boxes

    At 33 Hz a T-Line box’s port would be over 33 feet long. A 1/4 wave T-Line box’s port would be over 8’ long. Does that box look big enough for an 8 foot long port? How did it sound?

      Also the port looks like it would have more area than the cone & the back side of the speaker has slightly less cone than the front which i believe is meant to be factored in when designing T-Line, box just needs a little fine tuning but isn't far off the mark.

      they are for sq... the catch is, car audio is never a sound quality thing...
      the way soundwaves travel, is inhibited by the environment of the car...
      the cabin is small, with lots of reflection...
      to even understand SQ, one need to step outside of car audio, and into sound engineering....
      sundown audio makes subwoofers to move air... there subs are optimal in a ported box, moving the air mass..
      sound quality comes more from the soundwave travel from the front of a driver, to the listeners ear, rather than bass being generated from the moving air mass... the difference between a bass reflex ported, and a sealed enclosure...
      in a quarterwave, the goal is to take the out of phase wave coming from the back of the driver, and time align it with the wave from the front of the driver, increasing decibel output, but still trying to maintain a flat response..
      flat response is the #1 goal of SQ..
      for all frequencies to play at the same volume...
      in SQ bass, the goal is to eliminate vibrations from the drivers, cabinets, and listening environment/room acoustics...
      some will even put 2 drivers in one tline front to back, out of phase, to further eliminate vibration...
      thats just bass
      when it comes to mids and highs, it gets more refined...

    • @joecool7165
      @joecool7165 2 года назад

      You guys need to read about the distance of an octave wave. Also the comb. This is where everyone goes wrong when doing a car or truck. When you add two speakers you’re only gaining three SPL from the first one. Not worth the air space. You need to make your box smaller and designed properly. There is books called the cookbooks. This has to do with Car Audio. This is what I read when I was a young man that made me know so much there is one through five that I’ve read don’t know if there’s more. But this will help you guys on the right track. A transmission line box doesn’t work because of the comb. The timing can never be right because it’s a long tube like. There’s so much to read to know about speaker design. Eventually I will be touring again. I only do one speaker with a lot of power. I’ve been in the 170s. Haven’t got it louder than that because of the one speaker. I like to stick with a car. Versus a big truck or van. I like to stay under $50,000 for my build. You get a trucker van you could be a couple hundred thousand dollars pretty easy.
