Hey Dave! When I did the Pipe Dream comparison, I also thought the cask strength was better but not worth the upgrade as the regular at $30 was such a good value. But for the Lost Monarch, it was definitely worth the upgrade and the extra $. Maybe I'm just a sucker for bouryes! 😁 I'm so thankful for your loyal views, comments, and support! Have a fantastic Thanksgiving and cheers~
As a fellow whisky addict I can identify with our man here. These when they appear in my neighborhood go from min $90. I saw it last year and passed. Maybe this year if they appear again I’ll get one. If these were readily available at $70 I would never buy the regular ones as well. Great call there calling this a 4 grain as well. That is never mentioned I think.
Hey Dean! It is interesting that in all three of lineup, the cask strength version has a slightly different masbill than the regular one. They don't really provide any information on why but the theory of using their own whiskey in the cask strength version makes a lot of sense. Hopefully prices will come down in your area and you'll see it for $70 soon! I'm so thankful for all your views, comments, and support! Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving! Cheers~
It is a good one and I am really enjoying the Redwood Empires I have! Let me know if you ever get their other offerings and how you like them! Have a nice cool day and cheers~

I was so surprised how much more flavor and intensity the cask strength had compared to the regular Lost Monarch, even though the regular is also delicious 😆. Hey Scott! I was a little too "drunk" on the intense, wonderful flavor of the cask strength when I said that. I will keep buying the regular Lost Monarch for sure as it's one of the best value Bouryes out there! For the Bottled in Bond version, I did a review of the Rocket Top batch 1 and I wasn't too impressed for a $90 bottle. It was good, I finished it, but not worth the price. I did get the batch 2 as mashiblls changed so hopefully I'll get a review out of that soon! I'm so thankful for all your views, comments, and support! Have a great and safe Thanksgiving! Cheers~

Nice to see you're. I do like the lower proof offerings but I purchased them before the Barrel Proof ones were available. Now that you can find them in most better stores I probably won't buy the lower proof offerings either. It is a great thing they are doing by planting trees. I tried getting a response from the people at the distillery to a question I had. But crickets is all I heard. I just wanted to know what type of trees they were planting. I know it would likely be "Redwoods" due to the relation to their name and location. But wouldn't it be a better choice to be oak trees. seeing how in order to make bourbon, the distillate must be aged in a new oak barrel. This would help replace a least some of the groves and help with future longevity. I know too deep Hope your trip went well. Dana
Hey Dana! It's good to be back! I also tried to get information on the trees but I also didn't have any luck either. Even if it's not American oak trees, I guess any tree in general can't hurt 😆. The cask strength seems like the way to go if you drink it neat or over ice as the flavors are just more intense but also they do seem to put their own whiskey in the cask strength (not in the standard), so it does stand out from other MGP sourced whiskeys. Hey Chris! Redwood Empire is quickly becoming one of my favorites as well! Especially here in California, it is becoming much easier to find and the prices are now mostly retail ($30 for standard, $70 for cask strength). I have been on vacation and will catch up on your videos soon! (Also wasn't aware I wasn't subbed to your channel, but I just subbed so I should be getting your videos in my feed now). Thanks for all your support, views, and comments! I truly appreciate it and have a great Thanksgiving weekend! Cheers~
Another thorough review David. My favorites are the Redwood Empire Pipe Dream and Pipe Dream Cask Strength. However, I did buy the Lost Monarch and Lost Monarch Cask Strength and they are very good and growing on me. 🥃
Hey Dave! I remember you say that you drink most of your drinks over ice and when I add a little water or ice, Pipe Dream opens up a little more and you get more sweetness and smoothness, while the Lost Monarch, the "mint" actually comes out more, which for me, was a bit too much and decided that neat is the best for Lost Monarch. The reason I'm doing this is that I realized there are a lot more people who drink over ice or with water (especially on cask strength versions) than I realized and will give those assessment in the "buy more or never more" videos when I review the finished bottles. Hopefully that'll add something to those videos. This Thanksgiving, I am very thankful for all your views, comments, and support Dave! You have been with me since the beginning and like I said in the live, I wouldn't be doing this without people like you! Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving my friend! Cheers~

Great whisky either way. I prefer the cask strength of most any whisky! Redwood is a great choice of pours either way! Great review. BTW Cask strength Pipe dream is my favorite!
Hey Mike! I am a proof hound as well, but with the cask strength being double the price, I didn't know if it would beat the Lost Monarch's value, but it did! The Cask Strength was a great experience and was just an intense notes of the regular PLUS the sweeter fruits and coffee bitterness at the end! The Pipe Dream Cask Strength is fantastic as well and I have been sipping on that for the past couple of days to prepare for this video and I was delighted with it 😁 Thanks a ton for your view and comment! Have a fantastic Thanksgiving and cheers~
Good video. I'll be looking out for the Cask strength LM in the future. I had the regular emerald giant recently and it was great. Smooth, sweet, and tasty with slight spice.

Have you tried the Emerald Giant Cask Strength (Rye) yet? I just bought one yesterday and it is my first Redwood Empire bottle. I like it a lot! I would also be curious to know how the Cask Strength Rye fares head-to-head against the BIB Rocket Top Rye.
Hey Crispytaters! I did have the Emerald Giant Cask Strength and it is delicious! I have a bottle of it and will do a video on it to finish the series since I already did the Pipe Dream/Lost Monarch (mind as well just do it, 😆). I haven't thought about comparing the Emerald Giant to Rocket Top, but I do have both bottles so that might be a good video. Thanks for the idea!! Maybe I'll do it soon (stay tuned!! 😉) Thanks a ton for your view and comment! Truly appreciate it and have a great Thanksgiving! Cheers~
Hey DBTdad! You are correct in that the Standard line up is 100% MGP sourced (there has been no indication any of their own whiskey is mixed in). But for the Cask Strength versions, the theory goes that the mashbill is different (from standard to cask strength) as they do blend in their own whiskeys they made (their bottled in bond versions are 100% Redwood Empire whiskeys). That's one of the theories on why the Lost Monarch cask strength is a higher proof than Pipe Dream and Emerald Giant is because they added more of their own whiskey to the blend, which increased the proof. But no confirmation on any of these theories, but they all make sense 🤭. As always, so thankful for all your views, comments, and support! Have a great Thanksgiving and cheers~
@@WhiskeyBank Much thanks for the source information and mashbill explanation! Redwood Empire hasn't overwhelmed me in the past and I appreciate your honest take on this higher proof version.
Hey Jim! Welcome back again! I have tried the Grizzly Beast and the Rocket Top and while both are good, they are a little over priced at around $90. I believe you can get the Grizzly Beast for less than $80 at Hi Times currently. I like the Pipe Dream Cask Strength, but there isn't a lot of good options for cask strength "bouryes" (blend of bourbon and rye whiskeys) and Lost Monarch does a great job of the blend at a reasonable price of $70. Let me know how you like the Lost Monarch Cask Strength (or Pipe dream) if you pick one up! I greatly appreciate all your views and comments tonight! It really helps out my channel and cheers~
Great review David. I do love all the cask strength Redwood Empire bottles. Glad to know I don't need to downgrade this one.😂 But I do want to try the Pipe Dream regular strength per your previous review. Cheers!
Hey Rene! From my memory, it seemed they did something different with the Lost Monarch cask strength as the proof is higher than the blend of the bourbon and rye (as mentioned in the video). I don't know what they did, but it really made all the flavors stand out much more and the fruits more sweet and "jam" like, which I love. And the slight coffee bitterness at the end just capped it off and it was over. For the Pipe Dream, it wasn't that the cask strength wasn't good, but the standard was so good (at $30). If you get a Pipe Dream, let me know how you like it and if you agree or disagree with me! As always, I truly appreciate all your views, comments, and support! Have a great Thanksgiving week and cheers~
I will certainly do a side-by-side to see if the price is worth it. I've seen other bourbon reviews that rate the regular bottle as really great as well. Happy Thanksgiving to you David!
Hey Darrell! Redwood's standard lineup is one of the best values in the market today! Here in California, they are around $35 a bottle, but can be had for less when there is a sale! The cask strengths versions are great as well, but I wish they were just slight cheaper (i.e. $50 to $60), but I guess we can't get it all. As always, I truly appreciate your loyal views, comments, and support! Have a great Thanksgiving week and cheers~
@WhiskeyBank I have all three for $35 not seen the CS yet but do love them and great for beginners on there bourbon start and keep them coming love the content have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving

I’m in love with Lost Monarch and to pick up the cask soon. Can’t go wrong with Pipe Dream either. Have you tried The Grizzly Beast?
I love redwood all three
Hey Darrell!
