That is not an Asiatic Lion. That's an African Lion. The lions of the Gir Forest look much different. They do not carry a huge dark mane like this and runs down his belly. This one is reminiscent of a Barbary Lion.

These are Asiatic Lions , Paignton Zoo had Asiatic Lions in their collections for many years. However Asiatic Lions in colder climates such as being in zoos in the UK develop darker, thicker manes than those in the wild living in the Gir Forest. At present Paignton Zoo does in fact have African Lions, however these were only recently transferred from their sister site being Newquay Zoo in Cornwall

@@WhiteKnightProductions123 If that's the case, then I stand corrected. My apologies. It's just that they looks so much like African lions with their dark, large manes. On closer inspection, I can see what you are saying. That's amazing. Very beautiful. They seem almost more stocky and thicker than their African cousins? The limbs seem thicker, but not quite as tall as the African subspecies. Thanks for posting that.

Wrong, these are Asiatic lions are part of the European Asiatic lion breeding programme - the male has a denser, darker mane due to being in a colder climate.
