    Great video, I was thinking around £2000 per month, to live really comfortably in retirement. Not having to worry about where I eat and also being able to travel throughout SE Asia. The way I figure it, I don’t want to spend half my life working to then have to live ultra frugally in retirement.

    My budget last month in the south of Thailand was $400. $70 for electricity to run the AC 20 hours a day, No rent, $12 for internet, 60 cents for my flip phone, $2 for water, $80 fuel for car. $10 for car insurance. That's $175 without food. I eat out a lot and buy some foods for relatives. If I didn't eat restaurant food, it would be easy for me to live on $300 a month. I live on a paved road in rural Mai Seab/ Koh Khan. 1 mile to 7-11 and the freeway. 5 miles to KFC or hospital. 20 miles to Phattalung. My house is paid for.

      how much did cost your house?

    That is very reasonable, to many guys just eating thai food 2 times a day, staying in a shit condo and hardly ever going out and having fun. To many live on rice how much per month videos.This is very accurate well done.

    70,000 baht is a realistic budget for a retiree, nothing wrong with that. Personally as a relatively young person with a house and no rent to pay I could live with 20k but I cook a lot at home and don't go out much. But if you start adding rent, fancy food and nights out it can easily get to that 70k you mentioned.

    Realistic assessment there. I spent 6 months in Thailand earlier this year and my cost of living was around 60k per month after I got a 1 bedroom condo. Sometimes I would have a little splurge and then have a few cheap charlie and healthy days.

    Cool video. How much would you think it will cost you in your home country compared to Chiang Mia? Also what visa are you currently on I'm thinking when I move is to go on a tourist visa then Jump the border every three months is this your situation?

    • @JonInChiangMai
      @JonInChiangMai  6 месяцев назад

      I think accommodation would be the big difference where I'm from, general expenses, for me anyway, are pretty similar if you want similar things :)

    So he dose a video saying you “can” live on $700 a month and gets a bunch of neigh sayers myself included, but now he dose a realistic video of a decent budget and here comes everyone saying it is insane. It is like there is no pleasing people🤣🤣🤣
    Well John I think you hit it, and it is a reasonable budget to live in CM. Like I said before Megan and I did a 3K monthly budget and it was high most months, but when it was not it was nice to not have to swipe a card or pull money out of savings.
    Now only thing we did not have on your list was the Health Insurance, but my insurance here in the states only requires a receipt from the Thai hospital and they will reimburse me, but if I needed anything major I probably should get it.
    Anyways, Thanks again for taking the time Jon.

    If you go for the education visa, then I think you would have to also add the cost of the school as well (??)

    Hi...As a British couple for your retirement visa, do you have to show 65,000 Baht a month income between you or each...Therefore needing 130,000 Baht?

    • @JonInChiangMai
      @JonInChiangMai  5 месяцев назад

      I'm not 100% sure but I think it would be 65k each in this case

      @@JonInChiangMai Thanks pal. My wife and I (Also Britsh) lived in Chang Mai with our kids for two years 2012-2014. We intend to visit again this summer as our kids are all grown up now, and I suppose we can do more fact finding then. I enjoy the videos. Cheers

    That’s ridiculous mate! I live for less than that in the UK! Now if your talking to an American which inevitably you are this being RUclips and all they probally can’t get there head round how you could live so “cheap”! To think a couple would need close to 5k a month in Thailand blows my mind! Last time I was there we spent £4.5k for 6 weeks as a family of four. Flights included in this and staying at hotel accom vs LT condo.

    • @JonInChiangMai
      @JonInChiangMai  7 месяцев назад +7

      A couple wouldn’t need double mate, this was a mid tier budget for a single person to have a good time eating nice food, this included going away 2 times a year I thought it was reasonable :)
