Scorching through Saktigarh - Bokaro Shatabdi Footplate (Jan. 2000)

Electrified double-tracks from Bandel signalled the proximity of Saktigarh. We were now on quadruple-track territory traveling on the leftmost track. We crossed a WAP4 (Shatabdi livery) headed 18-coach train, possibly, the Bagh Exp. I observed how the switches were being operated at neutral sections to shut-off/turn-on power to the motors. 5 minutes later we slowed down on our approach to Barddhaman. Spotted a MUed WAG4-pair heading a BCNA rake.

Ah, yes. I remember the flyover. We crossed it during our recent trip on the ASR-KOAA Superfast.

Greenery is there...there is a third track for one, and a flyover coming from the Bandel side, ensuring HB chord trains can keep flying through and not slow down for the lousy mainline trains...

Main change is Saktigarh near the railway station has become quiet and sedate after the highway shifted left to where it is now. It was necessary for four laning. The popular langcha (sweet) shops has moved away too as has disappeared the crowd. There use to be a perennial jam at Saktigarh rail gate as road flyover wasn't there then. Those were the days!!
