Glad to see the area is getting a comprehensive, ground up build. Growing up Ports of Call village was always a family outing location. Latter when serving on USS Hollister (DD-788), at Long Beach Navy Base during 1978-79, it was a great location to hang out at after the work day concluded. PS - Time to visit the area and see the new LB bridge and boat basin
I didn’t see it on the concept art but I thought the USS Iowa was suppose to be located on the inlet next to this new project. Also, John great work, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Still don’t see why they had to get rid of the PEred car & track. If the cars were hassle to maintain due to age, at least get some modern trolleys. Would benefit the crowds who’d like to take a nice picturesque trip from one end of the waterfront to another + it add some uniqueness to an otherwise copy paste modern beach port shopping/food area.
The old Ports O' Call had it's ups and downs, but through it all it was a very unique place. This new design is very bland. There is almost nothing unique about it. They miss the mark on the overall design. It looks like it mainly consists of a bunch of temporary prebuilt warehouse buildings. I've seen churches in small towns in the middle of nowhere use these types of building structures too. However, there is one aspect I like and it's the most unique. It's the outdoor concert venue tucked in one corner. That will be an amazing space to attend an event/concert especially during the Summer.
The original name is ports o call they changed it to west harbor they tore everything down except the fish market i grew up in San Pedro but I live in LA i go out there like 3 times a week San Pedro and rancho Palos Verdes is the best place in LA
Yes, as long time resident of Pedro.....I love it. It is beautiful, especially by Point Fermin, Korean Bell, etc. People actually know each other at some mom and pop food places they still have, Busy Bee being one of them!!!
Visited Ports O'Call Village back in the late 80's, and was disappointed in how it looked. It seemed dreary and just not a place that you would want to spend a lot of time at. Had previously been to Seaport Village in San Diego and Shoreline Village in Long Beach and those places were brighter and more assessible. Hopefully San Pedro's next attempt will have a warmer and more welcoming feeling to it.
Yeah, it was a wonderful place back in the day when people wanted to live and play in San Pedro but, the demographics changed and the gangbangers and scumbags moved in an turned it into a crime ridden ghetto where you couldn’t enjoy it during the day and afraid to walk around at night. San Diego is very lively, livable and festive to walk around the waterfront and enjoy the scenery.

Yeah the venue space is a clear upgrade
Congratulations QLN🖋
After the Japanese city!
I hope this is the beginning of updates on this project.
Definitely
Are we losing the San Pedro Fish Market?
From what I heard, it recently got closed down but the owners are finding a temporary location.
