Exciting big update! I like your choice of the Funkhouser kit, looks like a sweet package and very cool of the guy to help you with those bushings. I'm no expert but I think that leaf spring pin would keep the axle in place once you have everything put together securely with the axle u-bolts.
I think that's a good idea what you said drill a hole threw that little pin on your leaf Spring so that you have an Alan bolt sticking through and you can center the axle perch on it and you can have the shotplate centered by it as well it will be stronger no chances of the axel moving around on top
