Owning the G16 4080 model has been amazing. Although I'm unsure why your battery tests were so low. In my playback/internet usage tests, I get around 8 hours of nonstop usage before the battery is fully drained. And yes, the reason for the 4080 model was because of the slightly more powerful GPU and extra VRAM. I love playing texture heavy story games, so extra VRAM is invaluable in a device that is my everyday carry for classes and also what powers my desk set up back home.
Oh hey Os_E_L, thank you for sharing that with me. And also congrats on being the proud owner of a G16.. it is a stunning device to have. Did you get it in white btw? I think it is normal for me to get lower result than normal since my test involves a constant 1080P stream with the display being on throughout as well.. and I keep RAM util near 50% as well. In a day to day scenario with mixed use, I image I should be able to reach 7-8 hours as well. And I completely get why the extra VRAM would still come in handy to max out texture sizes.. even if we are not getting the fully powered 4080s and 4090s in here. It is only the performance per dollar that comes into question especially with these super thin devices. And for 3D modelling as well, it is okay to have relatively low power being fed to the CPU but still having that extra VRAM. The G16 is definitely a vey special device for 2024 and I am really glad how Asus has designed it this year! definite win for them!
Update: No issues with my 4080 machine, fans are a little loud when gaming but that’s been no different to any other gaming laptop I’ve owned. The display is excellent, machine is very portable. The keyboard is nice to use but I’m having to retrain my finger memory to use the correct F keys as they are shifted slightly right compared to my other keyboards. This is only a niggle and I’ll get used to it with time, then it won’t be a niggle. Kinda wish there was a led on the power brick. Also no rj45 port which I knew about but not ideal, since now I’ve moved to new house and need to configure/troubleshoot the network access points etc.
Ur exactly on time. My college will be starting soon and i need a laptop with a dedicated gpu that i can use for productivity work and doubles as a gaming machine. The legion is definitely very practical but the offset keyboard is a real deal breaker for me, also it had an IPS panel rather than an OLED and i just couldn’t bring myself to like the legion after seeing the g16. Im gonna buy the g16 now, legion should really look into that offset keyboard as it’s a real dealbreaker for so many people.
Oh the G16 would be perfect for college. One of the lightest gaming laptops you can carry in your backpack. And I totally hear you on the keyboard offset; I personally have very little use for keypads; I used it for macros once but I sort of grew out of it ever since softwares themselves in general have improved their UX and shortcut key configurations. My first proper legion, the Y740, I think was the last proper gaming laptop without the keypad and i have gooood memories with that device. It was also the time when the Legion logo was that upside down mercedes logo hehe and I really liked it especially with the Y in the middle of the Legion "O" being lit. Looked really nice and did not seem all that flashy at all. I hope they introduce an SKU that comes without the keypad as well. There was one 14 inch AMD model that came without it and also had an OLED.. and was pretty cheap too.. around 1600 CAD.. but that was about 4-5 months ago.. and also.. 14 inch screens are now too small for me
Well, according to the literature, the pixel refresh feature should keep things okay in the long run. You will still most definitely face "image retention" issues and not "burn in".. so that will be temporary.. But you have to be careful about not always keeping the screen on full brightness and keep dark mode on.. not keep a predominantly white colored background etc. IMO, 5 years might be pushing it a bit and by then you might have a burn in matter on your hands. But again, it all depends on how disciplined you are at maintaining these rules/ Hope that helps!
🥲well I'm also about to join college. I'm going for a rocket engineering scholarship. I do wish I could afford either but I'm going to be rocking my old hp probook 6570b. Wish me luck guys😁
I think the legion is an F150 and the Zephyrus is a Range Rover . Both can do and are advertised as offroad vehicles capable of doing some degree of hauling and rough work . But the F150 will always be more accessible/practical and the Range Rover will always feel more premium . I actually bought a legion 5 this January and was heavily comparing it to the Zephyrus . And tbh the main seller for me was Asus’s warranty and quality control issues . And it’s a good thing I had that concern too because my legion recently started malfunctioning and I still have a warranty claim to remedy the issue .
Hi Spades. Thank you so much for your comment and that for sure is an interesting analogy and actually a apt one at that. Like maybe even the Legion is a BMW and the G16 is a Porsche. But no.. I think yours is better. I see the Legion 7 as a dependable workhorse and that fits with the F150 hehe. Hope you get your Legion fixed soon and that Lenovo makes that process painless for you!
So you bought a premium laptop and it already is malfunctioning? idk maybe if you went with the ASUS you wouldn't have issues at all because its a better quality product.
@@yousefmheisen917 Honestly maybe . But I did actually manage to get it fixed and its been running like a dream ever since . Aside from that hiccup i really couldnt be more happy with my purchase. Im just an F150 kinda guy.
The video quality is amazing btw, those close ups of those laptops are so well done and you are able to show their beauty so well. I've not yet seen any other reviewer do it as we as you did! Also the Asus, its not just sleek, but also more efficient (more battery life), portability, better display, better speakers, better trackpad and has options for more higher end gpus vs the Legion having better performance and feels sturdier (in my experience).
Hey Elderman, Really happy to hear that you found my content to be useful. I always feel that all good things are right in the details. I love taking closeup shots; to be honest I am struggling to take closeup shots ever since I got the dedicated camera; it has such horrible optical image stabilization and keep getting such shaky footage. But this is good feedback and I will try to improve this aspect a bit more. and yeahh I really REAALLY like the G16. It is a very impressive device!
I have G16 and really enjoy the build quality and overall feel of the laptop. Speakers are amazing, keyboard is very comfortable to type (coming from Thinkpad, so the bar was high). I installed G-Helper and uninstalled Armoury Crate. G-helper is much lighter and straightforward. You can set power limits for both CPU and GPU and transform this device into powerful gaming laptop or running cool and long on a battery with low power limits on CPU and disabled discrete graphics. Did I mention the great speakers? :-) Almost as good as MB Pro 16. Touchpad is great too. The only complain I have so far is that new screen hinge. Asus says that hinge disappears when you open the screen, but when I put the laptop on my legs, I feel like this sharp hinge is cutting my skin. I would appreciate if edges would be more rounded - something like MB pro.
Completely. Running Armoury Crate and blaming the CPU sluggishness in low power modes rather than the bloated Asus software is a clear reviewer mistake.
the g16 4080 and 4090 actually uses a vapor chamber design and loses the third fan, but gets cooler temps while being quieter. The coil whine comes from that third fan from what i can tell
@@fredtorres1703 hey Fred. Really happy to hear that i was able to do this comparison some justice. Hope it helps you in your purchase decision. Lmk what you finally decide with. I am excited for you! What laptop are you currently using?
Cool video! Btw you can definitely squeeze out an extra few hours of battery life on that G16! I get about 8-9 hours every time in RUclips playback with Silent/Eco mode and I know some other owners who have gotten 10-11 hours with a few tweaks.
Hey thanks Josh. Glad you liked my video.will be great if you could share some of these tweaks with us. 10 to 11 hours sounds insane. But I dunno, the sluggishness bothers me, when I set battery mode to balanced or best efficiency, it reaaaally feels slow. The sluggishness is unbearable for me so I never went in search of more battery life out of fear of more slowdowns. :/
@@kazmiee yeah I wonder if something is wrong, mine is basically just as snappy on battery as it is plugged in! Super weird, wonder what’s going on. Maybe a driver or something? But yeah I know those 10-11 hour people did some tweaks like disabling most services besides necessary windows ones, clean installing windows without any bloat, disabling cpu turbo boost, stuff like that. I’m fine with just Silent/Eco 60Hz though for still great results 🤣
I did have a similar experience as with @kazmiee. I can definitely feel the difference of plugged vs not plugged in for light tasks even after tweaking different profiles and using iGPU only. It is still manageable but definitely hurts coming from a Macbook. Battery life indeed I was able to tweak it with G Helper using your detailed guide Josh though
Just ordered a 4090 G16 in platinum white which was on sale at the Asus UK online store, can’t wait to get my hands on it. You can flash another VBIOS to unlock 175W TDP for the GPU, by the way, if you want to experiment
Just ordered the same thing from Asus Canada and it will only get through to me by the end of the month (I'm in Argentina so buying imported goods is a pain). Can't wait either.
@@DipSet85 It was on sale for £3K, but unfortunately I had to send it back for a refund, because it was overheating and choking in games. Also, the audio stopped working on mine until a reboot. Too bad, it was a nice machine, but if it doesn't work properly, I can't use it.
I just ordered the white legion in 3.2k! I have a ps5 console that I use at home, and I needed a good laptop with the option to game. Legion with higher resolution delivers just that. Now I can game but more importantly use it as well for other creative activities
@@fakirfamilylifevlogs5794 awesome. Glad to hear that. I hope it treats you well. I would personally enjoy hearing about you eventually moving away from the ps5 entirely and enjoy all your gaming on a medium that is more versatile and quite enjoyable too. Cheers!
another excellent review. I'll just subscribe. Lenovo is a little slow at implementing the latest technical solutions and bells and whistles, but it's a good thing most of the times. You noticed that the Legion had a great non OLED screen and even in your video we can see PWM on the ASUS panel. No need to chase imperfect (and possibly not safe) technology. Also Legion doesn't sell you the best GPU's if they can't make them run how they're supposed to run. Pretty fair and straightforward approach Asus on the other hand makes very clear progress in many areas. Lots of marketing and shiny everything. Great laptop, not for me though
Hey XRO, Really grateful for the sub; happy to hear that you found my content to be useful. Always awesome to meet someone who takes their gear seriously with attention to detail. And I 100% agree; is something is designed to be simple, it just means that there is less to go wrong. The reliable stuff will always tend to be a bit mainstream; it is perhaps a law of nature. :) ALSO, i keep on hearing about how awful Asus has been at post sales service / RMA ; these guys have sooooo many gaming laptop variants; I can only imagine how challenging it must be to deal with such a huge variety of parts. On the other hand, Legion has kept it relatively simple and I believe is more likely to provide a quality product and experience to customers. HOWEVER, they still need to innovate a bit and stay relevant. What would you like Legion to bring to their customers next on priority?
@@kazmiee I wanted Legion to bring a slim and portable laptop and they did actually. Slim 5 14 is the name I think. Great device. Maybe they could bring a better speakers. Many people pay attention on that. Longer battery life is always a good idea. But I'm a Thinkpad person myself even for gaming Asus could've brought slightly more mature decisions to their products. They're the first company to release a laptop on an any new CPU and there's always a high chance of things going wrong with it. Their Snapdragon laptops perform the worst and they were released the first out of all latest Snapdragon laptops. And you mentioned support
Hey Michael. Thank you for your kind words and for sharing this positive feedback with me. I am really happy to hear that you found my content useful :)
4:40mins hours??? Why is everyone else promoting 6-8 hours. Other reviewers are showing 6-8 hours youtube playback. Thanks for the details on your settings to reflect the battery run time.
Heyy thank you for your comment; you know it is funny I think often get comments on my reviews when I talk about battery time that I got less than what others have gotten. But I dont get it; I just try to do a real world simulation. 1 document open, a 4-5 chrome tabs to fill up the ram a bit, get a 1080p constant stream, screen always on but with brightness close to 50% . The windows performance preset I keep to balanced but through the command/config/armory crate/Vantage software I set things to the quiet or silent or eco mode. Sometimes I keep the GPU in hybrid settings but usually I go the iGPU route. Speaker volume around 30-40%.. and then I have this logging in the background to track the system run time till the device dies basically. I try to keep this test consistent so that it is possible to compare all devices on a comparable run but I dunno. I guess ill try to be a bit more pedantic the next time? But yeah, I just dont want to show high run times on really 'pedestrian' settings which basically turns strips the device of everything. The performance and the settings in general should be a bit reasonable I think.. If the keyboard has backlighting, that should also be on.. though at lower brightness. Anyway, are you leaning towards any of these devices?
Sup bro, I cant believe im just seeing this comparison now, but im glad youre finally coming up to doing it, its a shame you couldnt get your hands on the white one as I believe that would have swayed your personal opinion, but im glad you can see how impressive the Legion 7i is regardless, really as I said before, if you are in the market for a laptop and 4070gpu is more than enough for you, you get much more performance from the Legion 7i's CPU and GPU than the G16, its that simple. Recently for me in EU the Legion has gone back up in price and its no longer the £1,715 it was in june, and so im considering buying a 4080 G16 and future proofing my set up more so than a 4070 as the G16 4080 is on sale in US so im looking to try and get one imported to EU. But if that doesnt happen, I'll wait for either Yoga 9i or Legion 7i to come back down in price again as the Yoga 9i comes with a 4070 in EU.
Hi JT. Thank you for your comment. I wish I could have gotten the white one for BOTH the G16 and the Legion 7. OOOf they both look so good in white.. but the G16.. because of its slim profile and that slash and clean keyboard setup.. just.. feels like the better looking device. The Legion though, still the practical choice with high performance per dollar. All the best for your 4080 G16 purchase! Let me know how your experience is and if possible, do also share some benchmarks. Curious to see what 115 W limit in the G16 looks like in terms of raw performance :)
@@kazmiee sure, just so you know I did try the G16 in white about 3 months ago, as I tried both Legion 7i and G16 for 30 days before returning (both 4070) and I can tell you that the white on G16 is a silvery white which is fine, but idk what white they used for the Legion, it just looks so good, its just pure white white, I do agree the G16 is just much better to look at, and whip out in a coffee shop, as it looks similar to a mac, so I can see exactly why you fell in love with the G16 Anyway, yeah I’ll let you know how my experience is with it once i finally get it
@mariamalaskari_designs OLED is best in class but it will get burn in if youre not careful, I recommend G16 with OLED or Yoga Pro 9i with mini-LED, miniLED is better than ips but doesnt get burn in like OLED
I have been debating between these two laptops for the past couple of weeks, as I've been looking to switch back to Windows from my M3 Macbook Pro for both work and gaming on the go (yes, all jokes about gaming on the Mac are understood....). I do have a desktop PC for gaming, so when I'm on the go (hotel rooms, etc), the games I tend to play are relatively lower in terms of requirements (CS2, Doom: Eternal, older RTS titles, etc). However I also use my laptop for work as well, so appearance in the office / client site is part of the requirement. Over the past year, I've tried out the Alienware X16 with RTX 4080 (great performance, horrible battery life, very gamery appearance, super bulky), the Blade 16 with RTX 4080 (horrible battery life, horrible keyboard, temperature issues, heavy), the 2023 Legion Slim 7i (lightweight, decent performance, so-so battery life, looked acceptable in the office, numpad bonus), and just now, the G16 with 4090. The Legion 7i for 2024 was going to be my top choice, but my major concerns were the poor battery life, the offset keyboard (due to the presence of the numpad), and the fact that it gets pretty loud under load. Then I learned about the Zephyrus G16, and decided to test that out. So I picked up a G16 with 4090, and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with this machine overall. I get 200+ FPS when playing CS2 at high settings at native resolution, and I get 8-9 hours of battery life when doing office work / watching RUclips. It's by far the lightest of the gaming laptops, has a fantastic display, a great keyboard (I personally hate both the Macbook Pro and Razer Blade keyboards....), and a fabulous trackpad. And the speakers are far better than any other Windows laptop I've ever tried, and rival those of my 16" Macbook Pro. While I don't think I would have gone wrong with the Legion 7i, I'm extremely impressed with the G16. That being said, it's decidedly more expensive than the Legion 7i when you go for 4080 / 4090 variants.
actually the G16 with core ultra might be better since apparently there are stability issues with intel 13th and 14th gen series CPUs (meteor lake is different so ig there should not be an issue)
Hey Patrick. Thank you so much for your comment. I am aways happy to convert apple users to windows / Android. hehe. I totally get where you are coming from. It's like the Legion is an amazing device and it is just so easy to recommend.. BUT.. it's just that the G16 is.. somehow wayyy more impressive. There is just sooo much crammed into that sleek body.. I love it when a thin and light laptop can produce such awesome performane. and oh yes, the keyboard was such a surprise to me as well. For me I have usually liked the typical legion / thinkpad keyboards but the one on the G16 was just so enjoyabe to type on! Hope you continue to enjoy the G16 and keep gaming alive in your life! :)
I would suggest the G16 to students in honestly any configuration. Mostly because of how thin and light and portable AND battery efficient it is.. but specifically the 4090?.. it is 16 gigs of VRAM that you would pay mostly for since the 4090 in the G16 can take up to 115Watts only instead of the 175 watts that 4080/4090 actually needs to perform at peak capacity and that can result in a 4090 performing even a little less than a fully powered mobile 4080 so do keep that in mind (check out my review of the Lenovo P1 with a 4090 to see what that can look like).. AAAALL that being said.. if your use cases involve 3d modelling and high use of VRAM.. perhaps games that need very high resolution textures, then the purchase decision would make sense. Just know that you woud get low performane per dollar with high spec G16 machines. Hope that helps!
Hi mate first' of all the video was Superb many confusions were gone but one doubt Like recently the Asus zyprhus g16 rtx 4070 and The new Ryzen HX 370 Cpu is released so when this compared to Intel version or the lenovo legion 7i which should i go for mate ?
Hi Epoxy! thank you so much for watching my content and I am glad to hear I was able to settle some confusions. I have not used the Ryzen AI chips as yet but everyone has been raving HARD about them and their efficiency. And Ricarmig is right.. Compared to the Intel Ultra, AMD has always been the master of integrated graphics. their 800 series Radeon IGPUS make playing AAA titles at decent settings and frame rates an actual possibility. Again that depends if you are into that and are seeking the best battery life on gaming. Cannot beat AMD on that. Compared to the Legion 7i which just has an HX CPU, the G16 will always be more efficient with longer battery regardless of the Intel Ultra CPUs or the Ryzen AI chips. Go with HX cpus if you have CPU heavy workloads and every second counts for you when it comes to rendering for example. If you want proper mobility, I think the G16 with the Ryzen AI chip should be awesome. But again, I have to review the Ryzen one myself. It is possible that initially the CPU might suffer from driver issues here and there just because it is so new. Hope that helps; let me know if you have any other specific question :)
Hi Ali , my university is starting this September and I would need a powerful laptop with good battery and looks😅 . I really want to get legion cuz of its i9 14900hx as I would be running heavy programs for architecture but I really like the looks of g16 ( it’s oled display and metallic body looks really good) . If there’s any other laptop that’s have legion specs but g16 body in the same price range please recommend ( I can’t use Mac’s cuz autocad revit isn’t available on them ) looking forward for your response:)
Hi there! thank you for your question! Heavy programs for architecture might also mean that having replaceable ram can also come in handy down the line. Oh man, that is a tough one especially being in the same price range too. Good battery on gaming laptops, especially with an HX CPU? is going to be real tough to find. And those chips on low power configs can also really slow down performance. Hmm, well. Depending on your region, I think... the Razer Blade 15 (not the 16 or 18).. from last year.. might just fit the bill.. It has an H series CPU, replaceable ram (2 SODIMMS), 2 ssd slots, a decent QHD IPS display.. and of course, reeaally thin CNC milled aluminium unibody as well. You can max get an RTX 4070 on it though. Usually this option would not be price effective but since it is from last year, Razer wants to get rid of their stock and I saw it at even 26% discount bringing it to G16 money. OTHERWISE, the Lenovo P1 also comes to mind. It might not look "Shiny".. but it still has a thin body made of carbon fibre.. and you can get high spec GPUs and "H" series CPU in there as well with 4K / QHD/ OLED options and replaceable ram. IF you are looking for a fancy and relaively thin laptop that can handle fully powered 4080s and 4090s.. with an OLED screen.. and even with pen support.. BUT.. no replaceable ram.. and just 1 SSD slot. lol.. you can also look at the Asus Zenbook Pro 16X. I reaaally like that device too. that display is awwwesome.. hope all that made sense and it was a little helpful. Let me know what you finally decide! Overall the G16 is a very special device and has very few competitors based on what it is offering :)
Don't get the i9 14900hx, 13th and 14th gen intel cpus has been degrading lately, not to mention they have terrible power efficiency so just buy an Amd laptop instead
@@123Sulaymaan oh hey thanks Sulemaan. Thank you for the comment. Glad you liked my content. And you are absolutely right. I think I must have gotten confused with the pro 7i. Appreciate the correction!
Heyy Thanks Stanislas! And yes absolutely, the looks all come down to personal preferences. if you like the all black look here then I am sure you must find the Legion 9i to be extremely cool.
What about asus proart studiobook 16/ legion 7i/ asus G16 ? What’s your opinion ? (Btw, I’ll use it for my architecture study and gaming, but portability is also my priority)
First of all, great video! I think you did pretty great presenting both laptops with details but still keeping it packed and simple. Now I have a few comments for those who might be interested: 1. I have the 4080 G16. While it is expensive (it really is....) I just need something somewhat equivalent to my old desktop PC while being thin and light. So after some research I picked the 4080 variant. I'll just use it for a long time to make my money worth it. If you guys have something to ask about the 4080 variant, please just ask. I think it's just very good with 12GB of VRAM and enough power for AAA games in the next 5 years. Plus the vapor chamber does really help with thermals in laptop this thin. 2. Though I don't have Legion, I have played with it a lot of times on a store near my home. Comparing it to the Zephyrus, I'd get the 2024 Zephyrus all the time. VRR OLED is just amazing, the Intel Ultra (and the recent AMD Strix Point variant) is just very battery efficient in Eco mode, you have something called G Helper which replaces the default slow Asus Armory Crate software with a lighter and more reliable simple software (trust me, it's really good), and the speakers.. THE SPEAKERS! I finally have a windows laptop that can rival macbook pro (mac pro still wins, but G16 is really good). Keyboard and trackpad also won by Zephyrus line. Plus with 4060 and 4070, you won't get much performance gain going for thicker laptops. They all basically capped around 100W of performance, which Zephyrus series can absolutely deliver.
Heyy MrCoffee! Thank you so much for appreciating my work. Really means alot! Thank you for volunteering to answer any 4080 variant questions. Would be great of you could share some benchmarks with us as well so people understand what to expect. Btw did you get your device in white? It really is an awesome uplift to the G16. Personally I think the G16 can be laptop of the year for me.
Hi! I’m leaning forward to get the 4080 just as you. I’ve been reading reviews all over the internet and all I see is complaining about the high pitch noise of fans and overheating issues like it’s really hot. Can you please tell me how much as your experience with the g16? I will use it for editing and for games, especially new ones.
@xBraGo hi there, I don't think you need to worry too much about noise. Sure, the fan noise is quite higher pitch than other thicker laptop, but that's just physics with how thin this laptop is. Just use performance profile fan curve, do a bit of undervolt on the 4080, and power limit the CPU, and you'll be fine. Use G-Helper to replace armory crate. Plenty of guide online.
I'm a legion 7i gen 9 (RTX 4070, 32gigs, 3.2K display) owner, and as a finance professional the numpad will never ever ever ever be negotiable for me. Since most of this video bashes on the Legion 7i I wanted to chime in and say to anyone with a business related job (aka a real job) considering to buy this laptop, that it holds up magnificently well, being quick, snappy and powerful for all my use cases. With the display at 50% brightness, thermals in quiet mode and GPU in auto-hybrid I get a solid 4hours of battery life, for Microsoft Excel work (spreadsheets are my home). So if you're considering this laptop, I can (in my own experience) assure you this is a great buy, do make sure to get a 140W GaN charger for travel and mobility, the included 230W brick is just impractical to haul around.
Thank you for your comment Sawie and for sharing your experiences. Always good to hear from a fellow Legionnaire. I did not mean to appear like I was kicking the Legion 7 but here we are eh?. Also good to hear that the keypad is still a key feature that users are appreciating; obviously Lenovo must be doing some research on demand before deciding on future designs. I do want to say though.. to explain my slight displeasure in Legions (that you may have noticed).. as a Legion user since 4-5 years now, back when Legion was a new player in this sector, and I want to use the Legion 7 Gen 7 as an example.. Legion was right on the edge of the latest and greatest of trends.. A display with the 16:10 ratio and the QHD+ resolution with 500 nits of brightness and decent color accuracy.. RGB everywhere! In the logo on the lid and even in the vents.. it had pressure sensitive WASD keys.. and a camera supporting head tracking.. it was relatively thinner in comparison to the compeition but still had great upgradeability.. had a vapor chamber.. support for 175watt TGP.. amazing all aluminum build quality.. great port selection with 4 usb c ports even.. 2.5gb Ethernet.. just.. EVERYTHING you know.. and it costed me LESS than what a Legion 7 costs today (and lets not get into time value of money or the REAL values here).. I know the features that I have mentioned are all tablestakes now but back then?.. oof!.. It was that flagship murdering battlecruiser of its time that gave gamers everything but with relatively affordability.. and NOW.. the Legion 7 series is a mere shadow of what it once was.. all stripped out... so that they can charge way more for the same or less features with that Legion 9.. and for what?.. that fancy carbon lid.. and a water cooling solution that bascially makes zero difference to performance and is bascially a gimmick? Capitalism has taken over the Legion and yeah I GET that getting rid of the bells of whistles mean that Legion still is a leader when it comes to offering high performance per dollar; it is probably the most realiable ways to get into high spec laptops that are still of decent quality but does not break the bank. All that is great BUT.. that initial Legion magic is missing.. that X factor that made me want to get more legion merchandise like their backpack or accessories or even their damn T-shirt.. Anyway, I am so happy to see that Legion is building a strong fan base (resulting in guys like you coming to its defence and that is awesome!) they make it easier for new pc gamers to be initiated and leave silly consoles behind. I just hope they can keep their original spirit alive and innovate to stay relevant for years to come. :)
I’m also a finance professional and looks matter in finances so your right about the numpad thing but the g16 just looks sleeker and the monitor is better so that overrides it.
Wish I saw this a month ago when I got my Legion 7i. Either way I'm happy with my choice (even if I'll have to suffer with battery life unfortunately). The price was just so much better with mine coming in at under 1.7k with a student discount.
heyy thank you for your comment. Glad to hear that you are enjoying your 7i. Did you get it in white? Everyone keeps telling me that how insanely cool it looks in white especially in person even when compared to the G16. But yeah I was surprised by the battery life too. People suggested some volt modification to the CPU but I dunno, I think only a handful of users would be comfortable with modification and just want things to work out of box
Guess I should try to get the white Legion in hand sometime. Probably with their 10th gen Legions now I suppose. It would also be sweet to get the Legion 9 in a white finish as well now. You're right; gamers have been absoutely loving the white
Hello, I would like to buy a powerful gaming laptop to play and work. I have three options: the Lenovo legion 7i, the acer predator helios 16 or the omen transcend 14, which would be the best option, thank you
I agree, that one or two times I caught that image retention issue really did scare me for a moment ; thankfully it went away but it just shows how careful one has to be with an OLED. Asus seems to be confident that with its safety settings on.. like pixel refresh, things should be okay; but still at the same time they discourage putting on bright content on screen for too long etc. So I am sure there are risks.. And considering how Asus has been handling their RMA claims these days, definitely a risk i would personally try and avoid if I am to pick up a reliable laptop that I would want to stick around with me for long.
@kazmiee as the oled is made by samsung, we can be pretty confident it can last for more than 5 years without issues. SAMSUNG is using similar tech in phones and their screen usually last more that 4 to 5 year without burn in. Surely, some precautions about static areas such as task bar should be taken
burn in is a non issue for like majority of users, there have been plenty of first & 3rd party tests like Rtings for that. There's other more inp issues u need to be worried abt for oleds like dead pixels, pwm frequency, hard to repair etc
Try undevout Intel core i9 14900HX using Intel Extreme Utility -0.120V. I'm Using my Lenovo Legion Pro 7i I9 14900HX+RTX 4080 but using Hybrid i-GPU Only Mode + Battery saver mode. The battery life so excellent! 8.30am - 4pm can survive without need to change. Of course, in depend how you use your laptop also.
Oh hey. Thanks for sharing this. Can definitely be helpful advice for many deciding on their gaming laptop purchase but are concerned with battery life. Ill try it out myself! I just hope it does not make the laptop too sluggish on battery; that has usually been my problem with trying to extend battery life.. I just am too spoilt and want immediate results after every click lol. Cheers!

Hi! I still don’t know which one to choose between these two :( I’m going to use it for college and I’m an architecture student. I want a laptop that will last me atleast 5 years and can handle all the softwares needed in my degree. Which one should I go for? :( Thanks!
Hi, great video. I need some help to decide please. I’m leaning forward to G16 2024 with rtx 4080. But I read a lot that it has overheating issues, cpu bottlenecks the rtx 4080 so much. What should I do? Or did it got all fixed by now? Should I wait the 2025?
@@xBraGo I have that spec. The throttling isn’t noticeable if it’s happening. I haven’t bothered to do a dive into it to test. All I can say is it does everything I need it to without any noticeable issue. Very happy with mine.
@ what games u usually play? So I can have a deeper understanding. Did you uninstall armored core and tried to install g helper? Everyone saying it’s better and drops 10-15c temperature
Haha. I hear that! That would be awesome.maybe they could remove the keypad too?.. Perhaps they feel oleds might still not be as durable.. otherwise we would see more of them. I have just seen the oled on the slim 5 14inch one..
can you compare ROG Zephyrus G16 vs MSI Stealth 16 AI+??? Both are targeted for people who want to own light weight gaming laptops. (I prefer MSI so want to know if I am wrong)
So I have a question. I was going to buy this laptop. There was even an open box at best for $1500 and that came with a 2 year protection plan that I chose. The only thing that killed the sale for me was that light bar on the outside of the screen. Dirt catches inside and then the light bar will be dim. How do you clean it or is it an issue with that model?
@@tamir5940 ah. Excellent question. You are absolutely right. Debris seem to often get lodged in there and the worst part is that since those metal slits are so thin, even if you try to clean with a microfiber cloth, some of it will get lodged in there as well. So i use a pin to clean it from time to time. But even then, i never saw it go back to the state it was in when i unboxed it. It is not that big of a deal, the light does not get dim unless it has months of debris in there from months of putting it in a dirty bag
@ I think I’m going to go with the legion i7 because the asus is none upgradable when it comes to the memory and the oled is beautiful but it goes bad after a while.
@@tamir5940 oh for sure the Legion is a more practical device but the G16 feels are just soooo premium. I sooooo wish ram was upgradeable too. Are you planning to get the legion in white
@ yeah I’m actually on my way now to Best Buy to look at the legion. I believe it goes for $2000 and that’s with a 2 year protection plan that I’m deciding to get from them. I am a little because I did find a new condition of the laptop for half the price but like I said before, the light bar getting dirty and the none grade able memory as well as the oled risks is a risk for me.
Bro you're putting in alot of effort on these comparisons. Kudos to you! You need a new mic. Also make a video when you actually get one so that we know why you went with it. We have faith
hahaha thank you! I do hope my video helped a bit in the decision between the two. Have you had a decision btw? which one are you getting and with what specs?
When it comes to getting somethign that is most likely to stand the test of time and provide reliable dependable performance, I usually tend to side with Legions. Perhaps even Alienwares for that matter. Again this is all based on my own personal experiences. I have had legion devices for over 4 years at a stretch without any major faults. BASCIALLY.. Legions tend to be built 'simpler' when compared to the competition so there tends to be less that can go wrong. Specifically with te G16, even though it is built well, it is using fancy components and deeper engineering to make the thin body work.. it is just generally considered a law of nature that if something is complex, there is just more to go wrong.. that does not suggest though, that the G16 will develop issues sooner. It is just what history suggests. :) Did you have any other particular device in mind?
Which should I get for college? I’m considering the Legion 7i, Legion Pro 7i, Yoga Pro 9i and the ROG Zephyrus G16 2024? I’m planning on using them for computer science/programming, school work, and gaming. Legion 7i specs: i9-14900HX, RTX 4070, 32 GB + 1 TB, and 3.2K display Legion Pro 7i specs: i9-14900HX, RTX 4080/RTX 4090, 32 GB + 2 TB, and WQXGA display Yoga Pro 9i specs: Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4060, 32 GB + 1 TB, and 3.2K display Zephyrus G16 specs: Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4080/RTX 4090, 32 GB + 1 TB/2 TB, and WQXGA display BTW I currently have an ASUS laptop but it has poor battery life after only using it for a full year. Didn’t bother to extend warranty due to horror stories about their customer support. I simply don’t really trust asus all that much due to my current asus laptop that I’m using right now. Should I buy now or wait for next gen of laptops?
G16 for college. Most portable by far, still very powerful, and awesome battery life. I get about 8-9 hours in RUclips playback. On the Legion 7i and Legion Pro 7i, I get about half of that.
@@JoshCravesTech I was considering the legion 7i for college for its high display as I like to see more code as a programmer and I want more performance. I don’t care about battery life and portability, but that just my preference. I am also considering the pro 7i as a pc desktop replacement for school work and gaming.
@@Namu4Life Yeah so it would basically just be IPS vs OLED for you then and the resolution difference. The more common 7i here in the US has the same resolution as the G16 so I'd still go for G16 in that case so that you have OLED. Personally I don't find 3.2K to look any different than 1600p on a 16" screen unless you're setting the scaling super low.
I agree with how the change in resolution making a rather limited 'perceived' difference in image quality. Like you have to look for the sharpness in image quality atleast when it comes to gaming or movies.. BUT.. if we are talking about smushing in as many lines of code on a screen without the text getting blurry, then perhaps that 3.2K display can feel different.
hey Namu4life. Thank you for your comment; hope I am not too late to provide input into your decision; and what interesting choices you have here! I do want to consider the potential pricing of these devices as well ; nothing drives up the price of a device better than a 4080 / 4090 attached to it. And the G16 asks for that regular premium with those options as well.. BUT.. because the 4080/4090 on the G16 will be underpowered.. (4090 will probably have a performance a little less than a fully powered laptop 4080).. the main reason for you get those options in the G16 then would be for maximizing VRAM and usually those would be great if you are into 3d modelling or want to MAX out on the texture quality in games.. and generally max out the settings.. a g16 with a 4090 for example running AAA games at maxed out settings might offer better slightly frame rate stability compared to say a Legion Pro 7i with a fully powered 4080.. BUT the FPS in games might match or be slightly lower in comparison. I think a G16 with a 4080 + 32gigs ram might be a sweet spot.. youu will get performance between a fully powered 4070 and 4080 and benefit from the extra VRAM that some AAA titles can certainly chew on and you benefit from the mobility factor as well (lighter and more battery life). I think the primary benefit of the Legion 7i at this point is upgradeable ram and maybe the keypad if you would be needing that for any macros? If you feel a 3.2K display will be critical and find yourself wanting to play just mainstream games and are not too fussed about maximizing graphical fidelity BUT also want to maximize mobility, then the Yoga pro 9i might also be a good option for you; I have not personally used it but I hear good things about it; the only thing I would make sure though is that 4060 should be able to handle a 100W TGP. Hope all that helps! Let me know what you finally decide on. All the best!
Ah! I think I should have clarified; I used an online perks / professional associaion portal (e.g. Perkopolis). I have noticied that there usually may be very little difference in pricing between the regular site and the perks site. BUT.. yeah there are some devices that are specially discounted on these sites. Sorry should have mentioned that :)
Hey red queen! thank you for watching my video and for the feedback as well. I try to write out the specs as much as I can throughout. I will continue to improve my content for you guys. Cheers!
Hey bro, can you please do a review between Legion 5i 14700hx rtx 4070 vs Legion Slim 5 ryzen 7 8845Hs rtx 4070? Lot of people in reddit are also searching for this answer.
Hey thanks for the suggestion. I can only try! I can imagine that it should provide helpful answers. But to be honest, my work load from the office has been crazy lately. Very difficult to take out time. and lol at the pace my channel is growing, Ill be near retirement till the channel is big enough for me to get out of the corporate life :)
@@AmazingWorldofLaughter hey thanks for your question. It all comes down to use cases. If youre usually on the move alot with your laptop and are a casual gamer but also find battery life important AND you dont mind paying a premium, G16 for that. BUT.. if you are into 4k video editing (needing expanding ram) or heavy programming /architecture, CPU bound applications and also want to play games on the side, the legion would suit nicely at the cost of mobility and battery life. If you want to maximize performance per dollar. The Legion is the clear winner there. If you are into 3d modelling and need high amounts of VRAM though, the Legion 7i maxes out at a 4070 with 8 gigs of vram whereas you can get 16 gigs of vram with a 4090 in the G16 though, the 4090 in here in underpowered and in games will perform less than a fully powered 4080. If you dont have a strong particular business case and want something that kind of does everything and you dont mind the price premium, the G16 is really impressive. BUT make sure you get atleast 32 gigs of ram. Hope that helps!
Heyy there. Thank you for your question. I do apologize for the delay in my response. If you're looking for the most amount of utility, a pro 7i with a 4080 or higher can certainly be the way to go to maximize performance per dollar. If you get. 4060 or 4070, I think you will get similar 2 fan setup and copper pipes but a thicker chassis can make it better at handling heat over the thinner NON-pro Legion 7. The 4080/90 variant would come with a vapor chamber and can help with heat dissipation efficiency. On top of all that though, naturally the ambient temperature can also play a key role in thermal performance, the most heavy duty thermal systems of gaming laptops can struggle at ambient temps of more than 30 degrees C.
@@ForgoMangi it was a rather an uneventful last 2 years for AMD in the laptop space. I was rrrreeaally happy to see advantage editions with the Radeon Ryzen combos.. the Legion 7 with the Radeon 6850M was awesome. But I think AMD might be back with a bang (i hope) with the Ryzen Ai HX series and I really hope 8000 series mobile GPU options
@@enzoferrari2208 Hello sir Enzo Ferrari. The 4070 in the Legion is actually powered pretty well so you can expect 10-15% extra fps in the Legion compared to the G16
Hi guys, I would like to purchase a new gaming laptop. This video is definitely timely (thanks for the review, Ali). I'm considering the G16 2024 (Intel Ultra 7 version). It's my first time buying an expensive laptop. I've seen a lot of posts saying that the RTX 4060 is not quite worth it at this price range, but the G16 2024 (Intel Ultra 7 version) fits all my requirements. Should I wait for the 2025 version since I do not need it urgently?
Oh I completely know that feeling of buying that first premium device; and no doubt the G16 is one of those laptops. Its not just the 4060 but bascially every GPU option in the G16 will be pricier than the average Legion, Alienware or even the NON Zephyrus G16. With the G16 you are payable that extra premium mostly for the mobility. In my opinion, the 4060 will be ideal considering the thermal and wattage restrictions; Sure you can get a 4060 for even close to a thousand dollars less in a Lenovo LOQ laptop but every component in such a device will also be that much cheaper. The REAL question here is.. cosidering we are in the 2nd half of the year, should you wait for the RTX 50 series? Although you may not be in a big hurry, I think you could get devices at discounted rates for the rest of the year as manufactureres make room for the newer generations. IFFF however, you really want your device to remain competitive over a longer period of time, I personally feel the laptops next year can be a generational leap with potentially stronger AI chips from both Intel and AMD.. and then GDDR7 VRAM with RTX 50 series or Radeon 8000 series.. even DDR6 LPCAMM2 RAM with even higher clock speeds.. all these put together.. like we had witnessed with the RTX 30 ti series in laptops about 3 years ago.. I am hoping we see about a 20% increase in overall performance for the same prices we are paying this year. from a PURE practical POV, it would be good to wait :) Hope that helps!
sir, i bought G16 with RTX 4060 (intel core ultra 7), while gaming the area above the keyboard gets hot, and CPU temperature reaches 91°C while gaming and when normal browsing it stays at 70°C is it normal or my device is defective?
Turn off cpu boost. From aggressive to Disabled. It will reduce a ton of fan noise, workload and temp. And, I recommend u do that in every current gaming laptops u buy
The G16 with AMD HX 370 is as snappy as it can be by the way; definitely smoother in applications than the Intel on battery. It’s also way cooler on CPU temps (never throttle) and a bit sturdier on the hinge.
@@tinybit780 Hey thanks for the advice. Been hearing the same things about the AMD cpus. Always love hearing about AMD doing well. Someone also mentioned that the 4080/4090 models specifically with the AMD cpu does noes come with a vapor chamber. Do you know if that is true?
hi. help me choose please. I'm choosing between legion 7pro with 14900 and 4080, and asus rog g18 14900 and 4070. I had problems with the previous asus rog (defective video card, paint on the D button rubbed off, one button stopped working). now I'm afraid to buy asus... but maybe in 2024 they will be better. I really need professional advice ☺️
Hey! thank you for your question and apologies for the late reply! Well, Alienware is one of the oldest gaming pc/laptop manufacturers and after their acquisiton by Dell, I think their creativibased ty spirit took a hit but based on my personal experiences so far, an Alienware will usually be the most robust choice for maxing out hardware, they will prioritize the core components and getting the most of them but will compromise on portability and thickness and weight in favor of more reliable thermal performance. They also have very average displays, no miniled / oled options in my region at least. I personally love the X16, the only one I really like from Alienware mostly because of its extreme engineering to make a 175W GPU work in such a thin Chassis. Let me know if there is a specific model that you are currently considering.
The g16 design is amazing, but the tdp for the 4080 is low. The hinge is stiffer than a flaccid membrane with a hefty price tag. The lenovo just has a worse design and the numpad, which im not a fan of in laptops. Battery life doesn't really matter since it's a gaming laptop, and you'll need an outlet to use the full potential anyway. The major advantage the G16 has is the option for a 4080 or 4090, if the 7i had that it would be a no brainer.
Haha, a flaccid membrane? damn, you are not happy with the hinge eh? oh well, there had to be some limitations with the thin and light config. But I agree, feels like they have used rubber bands in the hinge. And I also agree that Legion needs to bring their design to date. the only thing they did was change their exhaust design to a picket fence / diamond thing which tbh felt a bit lame to me. I respectected the standard squarish cut they had back in Gen 7 and previous. CONSIDERING that the Legion 7i has a bit more room in the chassis, It probably would be able to handle the power better too even if it is limited. They propbably did not want to cannibalize the Pro 7 and the 9 series. I think kind of common practice in this sector. I remember Asus did the same with their M16 - I really wanted the Animematrix lid but had to pay lots more since it was only available with the 4090 and even that had a limited power draw.. But still, atleast Asus provided the option. You're right, Lenovo should have provided the 4080 - 4090 option; or ATLEAST the 4080 option
@kazmiee i understand not canibalizing the sales of the pro 7 and the 9i, but they really did the pro 7 dirty. The pro 7 is not all metal and no fingerprint scanner for that price, forcing you to get the 9i if you want a better build and better graphics performance. The pro 7i is literally the unloved middle child. With regards to the g16 hinge, the g14 does not have this problem, so I dont know what Asus' excuse is. Honestly, the 14" laptops this year are better for some reason except for graphics options. 14" is just too small for me, and 18" would be amazing except there are barely any choices
@@nameless_stranger ohh I absolutely HATED how they got rid of the fingerprint scanner. Like how petty and basic of a feature to remove. Entry level phones even have some biometric login features. The gen 7 L7 was a masterpiece. They even introduced pressure sensitive WASD keys. Legion 7s stood as a showcase of innovation, high quality and performance and look at it now.. not even the middle child.. more like the step child that lives under the staircase. What a tragic story.
The G16 is a great example of how shiny objects aren’t that good for you sometimes. Having an expensive gaming laptop without upgradeable ram is just weird. Furthermore, limiting the power on the gpu is even weirder which makes the Legion 4070 trail closely behind a G16 4080 with a 1k price difference. If you plan on gaming and need to optimize for fps, the Legion 7i simply makes the most sense. Otherwise, the G16 with a 4070 at the max is a decent choice if you lean more towards content creation or productivity.
Absolutely! I guess people should be aware of the monetary and performance price that they would have to pay when getting a thin high performance laIptop. Straight up, if one is getting a mobile 4080 or 4090, it NEEDS to be the fully powered one, otherwise there really is very little point. I think Alienware X16 is the only proper thin gaming laptop I know that can provide the full 170W on the GPU but it needs a heavily engineered quad fan system to keep it cool and actually does a neat job at that. The Legion 9i is also actually the more thinner laptops as well. But again, one has to pay a steep price to try and combine high performance with mobillity. In the G16's defence though, 0.59 inches and 1.8 kilos is just insane. despite the thin profile, the keyboard deck remains cool AND you still get 2 SSD slots; usually one has to make peace with just the 1 slot. And it is REAAALLY common to have soldered on ram with thin devices so that was not shocking to me. BUT.. everyone tries to keep making laptops for creators and gamers with fixed ram but do not usually offer it in 64 gigs / 96 gig ram configurations and I think they really need to moving forward since 4k video editing needs 64 gigs at LEAST to maintain a smooth workflow. I think the minimum should be 32 gigs. 16 gigs is just table stakes now. Overall, the Legion 7i seems to be the all rounder king!
Two of the best thin and light laptops! I would prefer the Legion 7i as it is cheaper where I live, and the g16 4070 here costs equal to a 4080 laptop, and the 7i has upgradable memory, and also has a numpad which I prefer. But the g16 just looks soo pretty! However, the legion has the perfect balance of price, looks and functionality, and I dont mind the large vent behind, if it means we get better thermals and performance, and space to have upgradeable ram sticks!
Definitely with you on that. The Legion 7 is an all rounder and covers all the bases. Super easy to recommend! Are you planning to get one soon? I do sometimes wish that Legion had a laptop in their lineup without the keypad; it just presents a cleaner overall look and the symmetry also does genuinely help a bit. The G16, I agree. is quite pricey; but still a good substitute for the Razer Blade. But love that it provides genuinely good performance in such a thin and light package
@@kazmiee yeah, my brother is looking for a new laptop, and the legion is definitely the one I would recommend, although he prefers the G16, with the macbook pro design language and the centerline trackpad and keyboard, and doesnt prefer the numpad unlike me! In the end, it all comes down to price and the best deals available at the moment. But since he is delaying the purchase, might as well go for the next year laptops with 50 series cards lol!
Heyy thank you for your message. Really grateful to hear that you found my review helpful. I look forward to creating such content that can help fellow gamers find a device that suits them. :)
Hey thank you for your comment! You know, I only recently started working with 4k footage and have also generally expanded the quality of shots that I take as well; and its like 32 gigs is an absolute joke for premiere when I am making my videos; Premiere just lags and I absolutely hate it. INTERESTINGLY.. the older Legion 7 that I have Gen 7 with the 6800H Ryzen and 6700M Radeon, someone provdes a smoother experience when editing videos.. not sure what is going on there. BUT.. yeah.. I totally get what you are saying.. If anyone wants to do 4k video editing, you NEEEED replaceable RAM. Since manufacturers rarely offer 64 or 96 gig versions for LPDDR5X. Though I have high hopes with LPCAMM2. Anyway. Its why ill probably sell my G16 soon and get a Razer Blade 15 instead. If someone is just using the G16 for gaming and 1080P tiktok video editing, then sure. The g16 would be fine.
No wrong answer between these two brands usually. I've always ended up with Legion one way or another. But I'm sure I'd have been just as happy with an ROG.
@@J.Wick. Mr wick, good to see you. Core Hardware wise, I feel both brands are seeing eye to eye but even in that aspect, ROG can be a bit innovative and Legion I think is more traditionalist (was not the case about 2 years ago), for example OLEDs.. a third fan.. 6 speaker design..things ROG is providing in their mainstream devices and Legion usually isnt.. we need something fresh from Legion to keep folks engaged. Been a loooong time Legion fan even before these guys got a little popular but now.. i feel my fan levels dropping a bit. But fingers crossed that 2025 is a good year for Legion. Their biggest asset is value for money / performance per dollar for them and people really love Legion for that.. but still. I want something a bit more exiting because I have seen them do it before
@@kazmiee Asus is definitely an innovator. If I were 20yrs old, I'd definitely go for the Asus. At 2x that age, I'm ok with less flash, better support, and reliabililty. But as I said, both brands are great. They're both at the top IMO, 3rd place is very far behind the pair. cheers.
Amazing video... Though, right now I'm thinking to buy a laptop and I'm confused which one i should go for? 1. Lenovo legion slim 7i (2024) White color Intel I7 14th gen, RTX4070(140TGP) 16GB Ram 2. ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) White color Intel Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4090(115 TGP) 16gb Ram. Also there is a lot of news coming in for Intel 14th gen chips , they are crashing and creating instability. So please consider all factors and tell me I love both, legion looks soo good whereas other one gives strong specs 😂
Hey thank you for your question and it is an interesting one. I will ignore price for now. It seems that the Legion 7 with its HX cpu and expandable RAM (upto 96 gb) is a better option for 4k video editing work and on the other hand you can get 16 gigs of VRAM with the G16 that would be better for 3d modelling. BUT.. fixed 16 gigs of physical ram is a terrible idea these days. It would still work for most scenarios buf I find 32 gigs to be the standard even for regular productivity work. Since the 4090 is underpowered, id say you might get 10-20% better frame rates over the 4070 which I think might not be too noticeable and wont add a great deal to your gaming experience. I like the G16 alot as it is technically just more impressive and i think the better looking and sleeker device. BUT.. if you want a workhorse laptop which is practical and perhaps a bit more reliable due to simplicity, you cant go wrong with the legion. If the G16 had 32 gigs of ram with that 4090, it would be the clear choice for me (considering no price difference).. but.. well, usually there would be a substantial difference between the 4070 legion and the 4090 G16 and with that in mind, ill probably settle for the Legion. Hope that helps! Lmk what you end up choosing. All the best!
@@modeloman4568 i honestly thought myself that the device will obviously run hot and the keyboard deck and wrist area would all be on fire but it actually had cooler surface temps compared to many other laptops much thicker than this. That third fan really does help. The GPU itself runs hotter than average but the user would not be able to tell without sensor readings. What other laptops do you have in mind?
@@kazmieeI just bought the G16 with the AMD chip. My issue so far is the heat in my lap. That downward firing exhaust is burning my legs ( and other important things) just cruising RUclips. Maybe I can change fan settings but at first blush I would prefer rear firing exhaust.
Amezing video bro ! You came at the right time. I'm hesitating between g16 and 7i. In my opinion, if the specs are the same as rtx 4070. For the design, Asus g16 is better than Legion 7i, but in terms of performance, I think 7i is the winner. I love the old design of my legion s7i gen 7 which is gray🩶 it more premium looks. Do you think I should wait for the new gen rtx 5000 series or pick this Legion 7i for now, which I am still using slim 7i gen 7 with i7 12th gen + 3070? Thanks you for this video and I already sub your channel ❤❤ from Thailand.
Oh hey thanks PP92! glad to hear I was able to contribute to your decision making process; and thank you for your question! I think a fair query for alot of pc gamers right now. And yes! I remember the gen 7! I really liked it. And I think the 3070.. although might be feeling like it is struggling with the latest games... BUT.. If you can squeeze a little more out of it till atleast March/April of next year, I do think you will find a proper generational leap next year.. it is not just RTX 50 series, but even DDR6 ram perhaps, and PCIE 5 (Gen 5) SSDs and perhaps nicer display options and thermal solutions as well. HOWEVER, manufacturers might charge a premium for those devices and will be offering discounts on the current generation- still it is likely, especially for legions that you will be paying a similiar price next year for much better tech. But this is just my own personal understanding especially considering that THIS year was so lackluster. Hope that helps! and that you get your gaming laptop upgrade!
Asus ROG Zephyrus is expensive and upgradable but the speaker quality is over powered and the screen is over killed which cause the problem while playing games (in order to solve this need a better GPU and higher Rtx)
hahaha. I know right? the damn thinness somehow awakens something primal and urgent in me. I honestly dont get it; I just reaaally like the G16. I am really humbled to hear of your support; I hope I can continue to create content that you can enjoy :)
Haha Yeah they really sold the world a whole lot of AI. No one can finish a sentence or a product anymore without saying AI. They are probably selling AI enabled sand somewhere right now
If you mean a 1000 USD, then you are within range for 4060 devices which I feel should be enough to support AAA games even at QHD resolution. You might find the Legion Slim 5 series in the budget I think, or you can also try the best buy open box devices for some options; did you have any particular model in mind?

Speakers, keyboard (num pad), and (small) trackpad drive me out of my mind. Yuck! (Slim 7i Gen 8 here). By the way, my brand new device has been to the Repair Service Centre twice (speaker replacements ... popping, crackling) with the Wifi card being replaced at my home. Ya, not a great experience, although it games rather well (!). I would definitely had gone with the G16; it wasn't readily available when I needed a laptop.
Ooof mann I am sorry to hear that. Initially I thought numpads were something alot of people asked for now but now I am not too sure where Asus is getting their consumer research from. I am just writing this now using the G16 keyboard and I cannot explain how much I enjoy typing on it; honestly more than the Legion / thinkpad keyboard even. And it is something that Asus has not even advertised much but I have heard alot of people liking the keyboard on the G16. But the speakers on the Legion I swear drive me up the wall; why can Lenovo not figure this out? I did not even realize how sad the speakers on the legion are till I heard the ones on the G16. OMG. Just superb! I am probably not helping here by singing songs of praise for the G16 but I hope that Lenovo is atleast giving you decent and responsive post sales service. However, the device should not have gone bad in the first place
@@kazmiee Hey, thanks for the support! Because I have the 16" MBP M3 Pro, the speaker situation is even more maddening. To add insult to injury, the random crackling and popping on the original and replacement speakers was the last straw in terms of appreciation for the device. In any case, I'm still waiting for the device to return from the repair centre (going on three weeks now). Anyway, you're absolutely right; this kind of occurrence in today's machines is not something that should happen. I've also owned Dell XPS's with quality control issues.
If Lenovo did great with this legion but bettery life lacking ! U should checkout the pro 9i that one has also up to 4070 and intel core ultra cpus can u review it please and thank u
Laptop decisions are always impossible to make. I'm super torn between these two. I think life is easier when you don't accumulate all the knowledge about everything there is.
haha, I totally hear that. There is so much complexity now and when we smush all the facts together, It can really be confusing. Usually I like to filter by usecases and get of technically work that out before we get to the "X" factor and the branding/personal style n all. You are right though, got to simplify. For these two though, Legion has performance per dollar and practicality on its side.. and the G16 has Mobility, style and features on its side.. too bad the Legion 7 does not have any 4080/4090 options. What are you leaning more towards btw?
Thank you for your comment, I guess it is something to try out :) but for now I guess I wanted to speak mostly to the out of box experience of the laptop.
@@kazmiee very good experience I am as University students that for carrying and using coding development and for cybersecurity is too good I like and battery so much good 6 hours battery Backup in normal use in college time for coding. I love so much
It is one of the CPUs that are susceptible to those crashes plaguing intels but it is not as bad on laptops as it is on desktops mostly because the motherboards in laptops are better aligned with the power specs of the HX and there is little variation there. I have used quite a few 13th and 14th gen HX CPUs and so far I actually had zero issues with either. Hope intel fixes this soon. Although personally... I am perfectly happy to see AMD become more popular in the midst of this crisis hehe
You’re right on time with this comparison. Thanks man
Hope the content provide useful Madison! Thank you for your comment and for watching my video! :)
I’m awaiting delivery of the same 4080 spec G16. Have you had any issues or concerns since owning it?
Do you think burn in on the g16 is a major issue? If i buy the G16 i will not upgrade for 5.5 years and it will be my main device.
@@kazmiee Helps a lot!
🥲well I'm also about to join college. I'm going for a rocket engineering scholarship. I do wish I could afford either but I'm going to be rocking my old hp probook 6570b. Wish me luck guys😁
I can watch you talking for hours, man! Thank you so much for this! Love your thoughts on these kind of matters
@@elderman64 lol with that wattage....
Useless g16
Hey nice. Thanks for sharing that. Definitely helpful. I am observing that alot of people are mostly interested in the 4080/90 variants.
This was the best comparison as I am considering both laptops!!!! Thank you.
@@fredtorres1703 hey Fred. Really happy to hear that i was able to do this comparison some justice. Hope it helps you in your purchase decision. Lmk what you finally decide with. I am excited for you! What laptop are you currently using?
one small thing to note .. full size keyboard on the legion and a TKL with small arrow keys on the G16. The G16 feels like a macbook pro to be honest!
great video, just picked up the g16 for 1899 cad open box with same specs arrives tomorrow!
woohoo nice! I am excited for you! hope you enjoy it and that the G16 treats you well!
Just the review i was looking for thank you sir ❤
Happy to be of help sir! Always glad to hear that I provided some input into people's laptop decision making journey :)
amazing review brother, thank you very much
@@rmachuca you’re not just mistaking it for 60Hz right? Cause it switches automatically to 60Hz on battery
Can't wait either.
nice, how much did you pay in Uk?
Pretty fair and straightforward approach
Asus on the other hand makes very clear progress in many areas.
But I'm a Thinkpad person myself even for gaming
Asus could've brought slightly more mature decisions to their products. They're the first company to release a laptop on an any new CPU and there's always a high chance of things going wrong with it. Their Snapdragon laptops perform the worst and they were released the first out of all latest Snapdragon laptops. And you mentioned support
u r right, but lenovo has a good device optimation
Excellent review.. The only thing that is missing is battery life. How long does the battery last in igpu and the with the gpu. Thanks
Dear Technic-ali I love your contents the details and your elaborate way of breaking down stats is top notch 💥
Amazing comparison.
@@kazmiee sure, just so you know I did try the G16 in white about 3 months ago, as I tried both Legion 7i and G16 for 30 days before returning (both 4070) and I can tell you that the white on G16 is a silvery white which is fine, but idk what white they used for the Legion, it just looks so good, its just pure white white, I do agree the G16 is just much better to look at, and whip out in a coffee shop, as it looks similar to a mac, so I can see exactly why you fell in love with the G16
Anyway, yeah I’ll let you know how my experience is with it once i finally get it
@mariamalaskari_designs OLED is best in class but it will get burn in if youre not careful, I recommend G16 with OLED or Yoga Pro 9i with mini-LED, miniLED is better than ips but doesnt get burn in like OLED
Would you recommend the G16 4090 edition for students? (Like, lots of travel etc)
The deal breaker for me is that the G16 isn't upgradable (I may want to double the RAM at some point.
actually the G16 with core ultra might be better since apparently there are stability issues with intel 13th and 14th gen series CPUs (meteor lake is different so ig there should not be an issue)
Getting the best CPU (AMD 370 which is the most efficient chip x86 now with there best iGPU) with the most reasonable mobile GPU is an excellent idea.
Hi Epoxy! thank you so much for watching my content and I am glad to hear I was able to settle some confusions.
Just remember that no 4080/4090 versions available with vapor chamber on the G16 AMD versions 😢
Just yesterday I was wishing for someone to make this comparison thank you my guy I really thank you may Allah bless you
Glad I could help BloqBoyG. Hope my content proved useful. Thank you!!
Plus I don’t like too many rgbs because I’m going to use it mainly for my study and almost no gaming
Hi there! thank you for your question!
Nice comparison! One correction: I believe the slim 7i gen 8 only had H series CPUs, not HX, which would explain the battery life
@@123Sulaymaan oh hey thanks Sulemaan. Thank you for the comment. Glad you liked my content. And you are absolutely right. I think I must have gotten confused with the pro 7i. Appreciate the correction!
Great video ! I like tge all black look of the legion but to each their own
Heyy Thanks Stanislas!
Now I have a few comments for those who might be interested:
People saying only fans is a buisness related job, so what are you talking about? A doctor isn't a real job?
I’m also a finance professional and looks matter in finances so your right about the numpad thing but the g16 just looks sleeker and the monitor is better so that overrides it.
Perfect ill get this one
The aka real job instantly made u a clown.
In white , legion looks sexy .
Gamers will love it for sure...
I also fell in love with the legion white color 😘
Guess I should try to get the white Legion in hand sometime. Probably with their 10th gen Legions now I suppose. It would also be sweet to get the Legion 9 in a white finish as well now. You're right; gamers have been absoutely loving the white
@@kazmiee yeah u should ....
Hello, I would like to buy a powerful gaming laptop to play and work. I have three options: the Lenovo legion 7i, the acer predator helios 16 or the omen transcend 14, which would be the best option, thank you
lenovo!!!
Please review legion 5 and tell battery life and heat topics..also value for money?
Heyy thank you for the suggestion, will try my best to bring in the Legion 5 for a review.
my problem with the Zephyrus G16 is OLED ... in terms of longevity (screen burning, Lines , etc)
What, so it’s best not to use higher brightness? So is it ok if I always use average brightness?
burn in is a non issue for like majority of users, there have been plenty of first & 3rd party tests like Rtings for that. There's other more inp issues u need to be worried abt for oleds like dead pixels, pwm frequency, hard to repair etc
I was between Legion i7 Gen 9 and G16 but after i saw White Legion, thats was enough and i bought it!
:( Thanks!
do you guys think that the Zephyrus G14 lasts significantly less in battery comparing to G16?
Nice review bro. Can you help me decide. Personally, which would you be leaning towards to: the Zephyrus g16 or the Alienware X16 R2?
Just got a g16 with the rtx 4070 and intel ultra series chip for a $1400 US! Your review helped me shape my choice. Thanks.
Legion 7i with rtx 4080 and g16's screen and speakers priced at $2200, is it too much to ask lenovo?
@tamir5940 oh sweet. I am excited for you. Let me know how it goes! I hope they have it in white. By any chance do you have a third option?
Bro you're putting in alot of effort on these comparisons. Kudos to you!
You need a new mic. Also make a video when you actually get one so that we know why you went with it. We have faith
YESSSS I NEEDED THIS, MY CHOICES WERE LITERALLY BETWEEN THE G16 OR THE LEGION 7i LIKE
BROOOOO NO WAY YOU MADE THISSS
hahaha thank you! I do hope my video helped a bit in the decision between the two. Have you had a decision btw? which one are you getting and with what specs?
Should I buy the g14 4060 or the g16 4070?
Which one do you suggest for long term gaming
@@kazmiee Thank-you for the reply. I am confused between 5i pro , 7i and m16 r2. Now I am sure will be getting 7i.
Which should I get for college? I’m considering the Legion 7i, Legion Pro 7i, Yoga Pro 9i and the ROG Zephyrus G16 2024? I’m planning on using them for computer science/programming, school work, and gaming.
Legion 7i specs: i9-14900HX, RTX 4070, 32 GB + 1 TB, and 3.2K display
Legion Pro 7i specs: i9-14900HX, RTX 4080/RTX 4090, 32 GB + 2 TB, and WQXGA display
Yoga Pro 9i specs: Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4060, 32 GB + 1 TB, and 3.2K display
Zephyrus G16 specs: Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4080/RTX 4090, 32 GB + 1 TB/2 TB, and WQXGA display
BTW I currently have an ASUS laptop but it has poor battery life after only using it for a full year.
I am a student and I wanted a power+portable device, I was stuck on choosing between these two, great video and great clarification.

Ah! I think I should have clarified; I used an online perks / professional associaion portal (e.g. Perkopolis).

Legion 7i is beautiful but got heated up plus it has no ethernet port, if I sacrifice the looks then should I go for 5 pro legion?
I really wish Lenovo released an AMD version of the legion 7. an efficient cpu would definitely be preferable for this laptop with its “slim” design
@@ForgoMangi it was a rather an uneventful last 2 years for AMD in the laptop space.
@@kazmiee Thanks for sharing your insights, Ali! I’ll definitely take your advice into consideration.

Turn off cpu boost. From aggressive to Disabled. It will reduce a ton of fan noise, workload and temp. And, I recommend u do that in every current gaming laptops u buy
Remove armoury crate and use Ghelper !!
The G16 with AMD HX 370 is as snappy as it can be by the way; definitely smoother in applications than the Intel on battery. It’s also way cooler on CPU temps (never throttle) and a bit sturdier on the hinge.

But what about Dell Alienware Why do most people buy it what makes them, pls answer.
Hey! thank you for your question and apologies for the late reply! Let me know if there is a specific model that you are currently considering.
sir i have a question that can l get G16 with mini led panel besause I do not want oled display for burning. please check this and tell me thank you
Modern older laptops of technology in place to minimize burn in risk
Was that lag still present when you plug in g16 in general performance bcz I’m buying thin series laptop and ultra series lag me into thinking
ngl i wasn't expecting a small channel to have such a good review, pleasantly surprised cause whole platform is full of sponsered, biased reviewers
Heyy thank you for your message. Really grateful to hear that you found my review helpful. I look forward to creating such content that can help fellow gamers find a device that suits them. :)
I've been researching both of these laptops for a couple of days now. But I'm torn between Lenovo performance and ASUS's aesthetic.
@@ArM4ND01 hey thanks for sharing your thoughts here. I can understand the dillemma. What are your use cases? Which laptop are you using now?
@@kazmiee It's just an ASUS Notebook PC
F510U
G16 does have a 4070 version, as soon as you said the memory was not upgradable, turned me off
Hey thank you for your comment!
They're both at the top IMO, 3rd place is very far behind the pair. cheers.
i got Legion 7i, which is the best option btw
@@sandromartinez4682 nice! Happy to hear you are enjoying the 7. Did you get it for gaming or creative / professional use as well?
Right on time bruh my unit starts in October
@@dhruvsingh2666 Hey thanks Dhruv. Honestly I thought I got a little late publishing this but I am glad I could be of help!
Amazing video...
Though, right now I'm thinking to buy a laptop and I'm confused which one i should go for?
1. Lenovo legion slim 7i (2024) White color
Intel I7 14th gen, RTX4070(140TGP) 16GB Ram
2. ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) White color
Intel Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4090(115 TGP) 16gb Ram.
Also there is a lot of news coming in for Intel 14th gen chips , they are crashing and creating instability. So please consider all factors and tell me
I love both, legion looks soo good whereas other one gives strong specs 😂
@@kazmiee thanks man....
the thin for factor of the g16 scares me, i dont want the heat to be an issue where it short circuits something
Maybe I can change fan settings but at first blush I would prefer rear firing exhaust.
legion is best price performance. i had a hard time deciding between legion 9 and g16. until i had a good deal on g16, case closed.
U glazing the G16 at this point bro😂...so good to see you succeeding tho ....been wurh you for a while !!
hahaha. I know right? the damn thinness somehow awakens something primal and urgent in me. I honestly dont get it; I just reaaally like the G16. I am really humbled to hear of your support; I hope I can continue to create content that you can enjoy :)
Saw what you did with the "Any Artificial Intelligence at play"" statement 😉
Haha Yeah they really sold the world a whole lot of AI. No one can finish a sentence or a product anymore without saying AI. They are probably selling AI enabled sand somewhere right now
I need a legion and would love to play Tripple A games but ove got a budget of 1000$
Any recommendations anyone?
If you mean a 1000 USD, then you are within range for 4060 devices which I feel should be enough to support AAA games even at QHD resolution. You might find the Legion Slim 5 series in the budget I think, or you can also try the best buy open box devices for some options; did you have any particular model in mind?
@@kazmiee I've always loved the Lenovo legion series! I watch unboxing videos all the time regarding the Lenovo legion 7 series... although I hear it exceeds my budget! My point is a Lenovo legion would be wonderful! I'd be an honour to have you suggest a specific for me! Thank you and sorry for the lengthy reply
@@michealjoba5664 my first proper gaming laptop ever was also a Legion. The Y740.. an 8th or 9th gen intel i7 with a 1660ti.. I was saving up for it for a while.. it was absolutely amazing. Legions have always held a special place for me. I hope they can continue to innovate and bring gamers high performance per dollar but also keep bringing fresh features and design. Hope you get your hands on one soon though! Thank you for all your comments!
I cannot believe that you lenovo legion 7i with those specs for 2300 canadian dollar. In europe it is 2300 euros with an 15 percent discount.
If Lenovo did great with this legion but bettery life lacking ! U should checkout the pro 9i that one has also up to 4070 and intel core ultra cpus can u review it please and thank u
Hey thank you for the comment. That is for sure a nice laptop to put in my 'next to review' list. Appreciate the suggestion!
If only G16 had numpad...😢
So yeah, as you can guess, the owner of Legion from 2022.
@kazmiee the g16 for it's display and battery life. Maybe I'll wait for the rtx 50 legion. That might offer led.
ooff bad CPu's. caheck the voltage on that 14900, laptops can go up to 1.V! bad timing with this video.
None of them, I got Legion 7 as you with 6850m XT 😂
lenovo for nubs 😂
Ohhh that Gen 7 Legion 7 is a masterpiece. Keep rockin that beast.
@@ali_leo7868 who cares 😎 Legion 7 is amazing, only it matters 😎
You need to undervolt the 14900HX cores, cache and IO to get much better battery life!
Thank you for your comment, I guess it is something to try out :) but for now I guess I wanted to speak mostly to the out of box experience of the laptop.
Today's I bought legion in glaciar its better than g16
Oof nice. Yeah everyome is REAALLY liking the Legion in white. How has your experience been with it so far?
@@kazmiee very good experience I am as University students that for carrying and using coding development and for cybersecurity is too good I like and battery so much good 6 hours battery Backup in normal use in college time for coding. I love so much
I don't think it is better. It's a laptop so most use the screen. The oled is gorgeous on the g16
Guess just remember it has 14900hx intel chip which can break see some report before buying
G16 all the way for me
It is for sure a technical and even visual achievemenet for asus for 2024! Awesome device!
