  • In what is our 100th video since we started the channel, we set out to find out what the ultimate family EV is by taking three cars we feel are the best in their categories and putting them to the test. Charlie champions the 5 door hatchback in the shape of the Citroen eC4, whilst Rod rambles on about crossovers and the brilliance of the Hyundai Kona. Bryan battles in with the MPV and brings along with the brilliant Peugeot eRifter. Which one takes the spoils at the end of the day? Sit back and watch as the boys battle with child seats and Rod finds out how big the boot of a Peugeot really is......

I also have a soft spot for Shitroens; the mud flats of Morecambe Bay. Actually put all 3 from this test there!

My wife is a childminder and the Berlingo (etc….) cars are great for three child seats across, no problem… or two and dog in bed or two and an adult… and so on. Thanks for the video… will the range be enough for us? I have a Zoe for my commute etc.

Great video but why not a VW ID.3 with either 58 kw. or 77 kw., or a Cupra Born as they can all run a bit longer with their larger batteries than for example the Citrôen eC4?

Great question. We did try to bring in the ID.3 however the car that VW could give us was a car that was over £40k and if I’m being honest, we do rate the Citroen over the VW. Our only reservation with the eC4 was it had the same power and battery as the eRifter so we ideally wanted a different manufacturer, but VW couldn’t supply us with a smaller battery ID.3.

Its not just the PSA eve brakes: our id3 has broken down and VW have given us a diesel Vauxhall Vivaro (yes really) as a 'courtesy car' and the brakes are an on-off switch.

After driving the e-2008 for a week and test driving the ë-C4 I can't say that I've noticed the braking numbness at all. Maybe it comes down to driving style - eco-driving vs "old-school"?
Also, it would be interesting to know the numbers you got when talking about efficiency between the cars. It should be almost impossible to get worse miles per kWh in the Citroën in comparison with the Peugeot given the difference in aerodynamics.
Also: keeping an eye on the average consumption should give you a better idea of the range, instead of relying on the range indicator?

@@egm4305 Have had the e-C4 for about 22 months now. It's a great car, the only annoying thing is the accompanying iphone app, but it's not needed at all.
      I average about 122 Wh/km in summer (May-Sep) and 153 Wh/km in Winter (Oct-Apr) here in Sweden.

The 50kWh stla batteries are just 43nett.
    Better state nett capacity.
The both stla cars really need 58nett to be more in line with competition.

I really don’t like the Kona I think dash looks like it’s out the 90’s, it’s noisy and has dreadful grip and traction
